It will be about an Eastern newspaper writer who travels from Baltimore, Maryland to Coloma, California in 1849 and becomes part of the California Gold Rush. His name will be Jacob Wells and also featured in this play is a 19-year-old boy who goes by the name of Charlie Bowles. And if that name sounds familiar it's because this boy will later become the stagecoach bandit, "Black Bart". Another young man who will be featured in this play will be Lewis Galt who later ends up fighting for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Galt is originally from Georgia. Miss Belle is also in the play as a Southern widow who has come to California in search of the man who killed her husband, only to find out from the constable, William Brown, who is from South Carolina as well, was killed in a duel. The man who killed him, Lamont Dupree, the Frenchman, was later lynched by vigilantes. My character, Benjamin Fellows, appears in the play as a gambler who wants nothing to do with the gold rush but is nevertheless involved. Once I'm done, I'm planning to take the show on the road. Wish me luck and keep your powder dry.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
