Friends, that's a lot of counties!

Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that people from 147 nations would take the time to read or visit my blog. It is just unimaginable to me!

Here I am, in a little place called Glencoe, tucked away in the Sierra Nevada mountains, just one citizen out of a population of 189, and my little blog is being read all over the place.

My wife's family is from Livermore California, but she has relations in Idaho - and in Great Britain in Plymouth and Devon. My relatives stretch from Hawaii, to Alaska, and all over Northern California, and yes, I have a cousin in Michigan.

What you might not know about me is that I love finding out where my readers are, and then researching those places a little. Yes, that's you out there!

You seem to be from some really interesting places. Some of you are very hardy people who live in far off places in Siberia, Iceland, on the Faroe Islands between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, or like way up North in Nunavut Canada on Baffin Island.

Now I thought Nunavut, and specifically Baffin Island, would be one tough hard land to live in. After looking up Nunavut, I discovered that it can be a tough and cold place.

I also discovered that the Inuit children there play on their jungle gyms and laugh it up outside on a playground during school recess no different than kids anywhere else.

I have to say that the kids up there are too cute for words.

But wait, I also have a few steady readers from other places where I would've never thought that computers even existed.

For some reason, the Amazon Rain Forest, the island of Mauritius off the coast of Madagascar, Novosibirsk in Russia, a town in Mongolia, or say the Vatican, all makes me think of other things - certainly things other than computers and the Internet.

For me, I really like the idea that there is someone in the Amazon Rain Forest that took a look at my blog. I feel the same way about my readers in India, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, and Indonesia. I like the idea, the thought, that the heart of a Cowboy is not something wholly exclusive to Americans.

Like minded people get along simply because we have more in common. The honorable inspire the good in all of us. No matter if you're in Australia or Germany, the Netherlands or France, Belgium or Sweden, Costa Rica or South Africa, those of us who naturally look out for our neighbor, respect our parents and elders, treat people well because we want the same in return, we are everywhere!

We who believe that freedom does not come from our governments but are given to us by God; we who accept that we are ultimately responsible for our own lives; we who cherish love and family and goodness - and yet are tough enough to protect ourselves, those we love, and the freedom we hold so dear, yes, we are Cowboys!

That is the Cowboy way, and it's nice to see it in places that I never imagined!

I just want to say that I hope you enjoy my posts in the future. And yes, I'd like to take this time to send out a big Thank You to everyone out there.

Knowing folks are reading my blog, whether its in Medicine Hat Canada, in Kauniainen Finland, or in  Warrnambool Australia, it just makes it that much more fun to write.

With sincere appreciation,

Tom Correa

Calling Someone A "Curly-Haired Nigger" Is Bigotry!

It is! And yes, since bigotry and racism go hand in hand. Yes, calling anyone a "curly-haired nigger" is definitely bigotry!

It is in your face racism! And when it comes from a Black man, it is still bigotry and racism! Just because you're Black doesn't mean that you can't be a racist!

Just as it can be racist for a White person to physically or verbally attack a Black person, yes, it is also possible for a Black person to be a racist and attack White people.

In this case it is about a Black man verbally attacking a Black woman by calling her all sorts of vile things - including a "curly-haired Nigger!"

Now pardon me, but isn't that considered a Hate Crime these days?

So where's the White House on this? Where's the Liberal PC Police? Where's the outcry from Liberals like Chris Matthews and Bob Beckles? Where is the NAACP?

And since it was a woman who was being talked to like that, where's the National Organization of Woman?

Why isn't the White House taking up arms and sending the Justice Department to quit running guns to Mexico for a while and go check on this Hate Crime?

So why isn't anyone running to the aid of Charlotte Bergmann after a Memphis disc jockey Thaddeus Matthews called her a "Curly-Haired Nigger" - among other racial slurs?

In a profanity-laced tirade, the Memphis DJ used an on-air interview to berate Charlotte Bergmann. He called her a "token negro who is doing the bidding of white folk."

Matthews called Charlotte Bergmann, who is Black, "stupid." Then went on to call her as a "Curly-Haired Nigger!"

After experiencing enough hate, she finally walked out of the interview. Class act Matthews refused to shake her hand, saying he didn't want to get her "Whiteness" on him.

So, as the Associated Press article asked, where "the outrage? The fury? In Memphis, you can hear the crickets."

Charlotte Bergmann told Fox News that, while the web video of the interview has gotten a lot of attention on blogs, local media has largely ignoring it. She said she hasn't gotten any calls from politicians about it.

"No organization has spoken out," said Bergmann. "The anger has been expressed throughout the nation, but not in my local area."

As for her treatment on air, which she described as "racist" and abusive, she said it stems from the notion that Black politicians should uniformly be Democrats.

Oh, did I leave that out!

Well yes, the reason that it is apparently OK with Civil Rights leaders, the White House, the NAACP, the NOW, and of course Memphis Tennessee is that Charlotte Bergmann is a local Republican Congressional candidate.

Charlotte Bergmann is running in Tennessee's 9th District, which is mostly Black. The seat is currently held by Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen, whose office has not commented on the radio interview or the hate that followed.

Matthews says he stands by his actions. He told MyFoxMemphis that he's apologized on air for the "Whiteness" comment - but the Black bigot defends the rest.

Matthews justifies his racial hate crime by saying, "I do not regret the content of what I said. In the anger of having another politician in my studio that knows absolutely nothing about nothing and gives me stupid answers, I don't regret that."

Then went on to say, "Now the context of the Whiteness rubbing off, that part I do regret, that particular portion of the show. But the rest of everything I said, I meant exactly what I said."

According to Fox News, they reported that it is unclear as to how the radio station management, at WPLX-AM 1180, will end up handling the incident. The owner of the broadcasting company apparently has issued an apology.

Bergmann said the owner, William Pollack, called her Wednesday to apologize. She also provided a written apology under Pollack's name, which expressed regret for the "ill treatment" on air.

"Ill treatment!" That my friends is the best euphemism for Hate as I've ever heard.

Pollock wrote: "I was unaware of the horrific treatment of you until today. I have personally met with Matthews and will assure you this situation is receiving our complete attention," the statement said, adding that he "personally supported" Bergmann in 2010 and will do so again.

I guess by saying that Matthews "personally supported Bergmann in 2010 and will do so again" that is suppose to make it all better. Sort of a management way of saying "let me kiss it and make it well!"

Sorry, but I don't think that that will make up for what she went through. Before Bergmann eventually walked out of the interview, it was Hell on the radio! And yes, the KKK has nothing on the Black Bigotry of Thaddeus Matthews!

For the first 12 minutes, Matthews repeatedly challenged her loyalty to black people. Then when that was going no where, Matthews started asking about her affiliation with the Tea Party.

After that he accused her of evading the question, later asking, "Are you a token of white folk? Are white folk using you to come against black folk?"

After she started to respond, Matthews interrupted, saying: "Damn, Ms. Bergmann, shut up for a moment. OK, shut up for a moment, because you shucking and jiving."

The hate filled interview which the Liberal Media is playing down as simply "confrontational" continued as Matthews challenged her on plans to help the Black community.

"All I see in you is another token Negro," he said, then likening her to former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

After several minutes, the DJ threatened to cut off her microphone and throw her out of the studio. "I'm so sick of your sh-, yourself, and I'm about to put your ass up outta here," he said.

"You are a token negro that white folk have control over."

Finally Charlotte Bergmann had enough and said "We have a failure to communicate" and started to leave the studio.

But Matthews didn't let up, instead he continued to berate the Ms Bergmann, by yelling, "Get up and get your ass up outta here. Get your stupid, ignorant ass up outta my studio."

As she left, she held out her hand to the DJ. But that was all it took for Matthews to let loose with his final racial slurs by saying, "I don't need to shake your hand. I'm scared because some of that Whiteness might rub off on me."

Bergmann told Fox News that she's trying to get the video of the confrontation shown at the upcoming Conservative Political Action Conference - an annual meet-up in Washington of prominent Conservatives. She said her campaign has reached out to two Republican lawmakers about that possibility.

Thaddeus Matthews has a reputation in Memphis of bringing problems to his radio station. According to MyFoxMemphis, he was fired from another AM radio station in 2010.

Of course, typical for someone of the ilk of Thaddeus Matthews, he claimed "White Republicans pressured the bosses to remove him."

Matthews launched his show on WPLX, originally billed as a mostly Blues music program. It turned into his private platform to attack Black Conservatives and Whites.

I can't help but wonder if the folks at MSNBC will see the pathetic actions of Thaddeus Matthews as being a perfect resume for employment on MSNBC where Liberal Hate Speech flows daily.

American Civil War: Surprising Facts Too Strange To Hide

A Democratic Party Advertisement In 1861
From 1861 to 1865, Americans were at war.

Believe it or not, I know a few Southerners who call the Civil War, "The War of Northern Aggression." And yes, I've known a few Northerners who have called it, "The Democrat's War to Keep Slavery."

Since I'm always on the look out for strange and interesting, and maybe sometimes just plain weird facts about history, I figured that this would be a great time to take on the American Civil War.

During the US Civil war, 200,000 blacks served in the Union Army; 38,000 gave their lives; 22 won the Medal of Honor.

Gen. Robert E. Lee married a relative of George Washington, Mary Ann Randolph Custis. She owned a plantation called "Arlington." They lived there 30 years until Gen. Lee resigned his commission to avoid fighting against his home state.

The Lees vacated the property in 1861. Union troops occupied it and 200 acres were set aside to bury fallen Union soldiers. Today over 250,000 war dead are buried there. Now of course, it is known as Arlington National Cemetery.

Did you know that in the Civil War, General Stonewall Jackson walked around with his right hand in the air to balance the blood in his body? It's true!

Because the General was right-handed, he thought that his right hand was getting more blood than his left, and so by his raising of his hand, he really believed that this allowed the excess blood to run into his left hand.

General Jackson also had a thing for good food. He never ate food that tasted good, because he assumed that anything that tasted good was completely unhealthy. He was obviously a man way ahead of his time, since today most Diet Experts believe the same thing.

Two percent of the population—more than 620,000—died in the Civil War.

In 1864, Ulysses S. Grant was promoted to Lieutenant General, a rank previously held by General George Washington, and led the 533,000 men of the Union Army, the largest in the world. Three years later, he was elected President of the United States.

According to researchers, about one-third of the Soldiers who fought for the Union Army were immigrants, many Irish, but even more were Germans. Some researchers believe that nearly 1 in 10 Union Soldiers was African American, I've read where others say it was more like 1 in 15. But either way, they did not fight for until the Union allowed Negros to fight in 1863.

During the Civil War, eye glasses with colored lenses were used to treat disorders and illnesses. Yellow-trimmed glasses were used to treat syphilis, blue lenses for insanity, and pink for depression. And that my friends is where we get the term, "To see the world through rose-colored glasses."

General Ulysses S. Grant was not a fan of military ceremonies or military music. He is reported to have said, that he could only recognize two tunes. "One was Yankee Doodle, the other one wasn’t."

Did you know that the average American in the 1860’s could not afford to paint his house, and a painted house was a sign of affluence? In order to keep up appearances, they used cedar clapboards.

Did you know that when a woman mourned for her husband in the 1860’s, she spent a minimum of two-and-a-half years in mourning? That meant little or no social activities: no parties, , no outings, no visitors, and a wardrobe that consisted of nothing but black. The husband, when mourning for his wife, however, spent three months in a black suit.

During the Battle of Antietam, Clara Barton tended the wounded so close to the fighting that a bullet went through her sleeve and killed a man she was treating.

During the Civil War, Medical Doctors and Surgeons never washed their hands after an operation. The belief at the time was that all blood was assumed to be the same.

It is said that in March 1862, that all of the European powers watched as the Monitor and Merrimack battled off Hampton Roads, Virginia.  It is said that after these ironclads opened fire, every other Navy on earth was obsolete. Well, that makes sense, considering that both the Monitor and the Merrimack were made of iron - while all other Naval vessels at the time were made of wood. It was the dawn of a new technology in shipbuilding for use in warfare.

After the Monitor and the Merrimack battle at Hampton Roads, supposedly the North built 58 Monitor Class ironclads, and the South built 22. Imagine that!

Future Supreme Court Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., was wounded three times during the Civil War. First in the chest at Ball’s Bluff, then in the back at Antietam, and finally in the heel at Chancellorsville.

During the Victorian era, the dead were either laid out in their parlors, or, as the Southerners preferred, in their bedrooms. There was no such thing as funeral homes at the time. Death was a part of life, and the dead remained in the house up until they were buried. The tradition of flowers around the coffin comes from the people in the Victorian Age trying to hide the scent of the deceased.

We've all heard of Stanley and Livingstone. Well, a little know fact is that Confederate Private Henry Stanley fought for the Sixth Arkansas, and was captured at Shiloh. Yes, he survived.

And as we know, as a Welsh journalist and Explorer he went to Africa to find Dr. Livingstone. Upon finding Livingstone, Stanley allegedly uttered the now-famous greeting, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?"

In those days, when a child died, it was customary for parents to have a photograph taken of the child. They wanted to preserve the memory for as long as possible. A lot of photographs taken of sleeping children are actually of deceased sons or daughters.

On July 4, 1863, after 48 days of siege, Confederate General John C. Pemberton surrendered the city of Vicksburg to Union General Ulysses S, Grant. After that, the Fourth of July was not be celebrated in Vicksburg for another 81 years.

In November 1863, President Lincoln was invited to offer a "few appropriate remarks" at the opening of a new Union cemetery at Gettysburg. The main speaker, a celebrated orator from Massachusetts, spoke for nearly two hours. Lincoln offered just 269 words in his Gettysburg Address.

Finding out the he, President Lincoln, had a mild form of smallpox (varioloid) while he gave the now famous Gettysburg Address. On the train back to Washington he supposedly said, "Now I have something that I can give everybody."

President Lincoln’s favorite tune was "Dixie"! It was a tune written by and preformed by a Northerner!

Disease was the chief killer during the Civil War, it was responsible for taking two men for every one who died of battle wounds.

Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest had twenty-nine horses shot out from under him during the Civil War.  Of course, there is that other thing he's famous for. His other claim to fame is being responsible for creating the Ku Klux Klan.

In 1865, several veterans of the Confederate Army formed a private "social club" in Pulaski, Tennessee, called the Ku Klux Klan. That "social club" terrorized Republicans, Catholics, and freed Blacks for the next hundred years or more.

Forrest served as the first Grand Wizard of the KKK.  He is directly responsible for launching a reign of terror against freed slaves, Northerners who had moved to the South during the Reconstruction Era, Catholics, Southern "Unionist" who had supported the North, and Republicans.

In 1865, several veterans of the Confederate Army formed a private "social club" in Pulaski, Tennessee, called the Ku Klux Klan. That 'social club" terrorized Republicans, Catholics, and freed Blacks for the next hundred years or more.

Democrats for slavery?

The war was started by Democrats determined to keep the Black man a slave, and since Republicans who were against slavery, Republicans were targets after the war - just as they were during the war.  Before William Tecumseh Sherman became a great Union General, he was demoted for apparent insanity.

In October 1861, William Tecumseh Sherman, commander of Union forces in Kentucky, told U.S. Secretary of War Simon Cameron he needed 60,000 men to defend his territory and 200,000 to go on the offensive. Cameron called Sherman’s request "insane" and removed the General from his command.

In a letter to his brother, a devastated Sherman wrote, "I do think I should have committed suicide were it not for my children. I do not think that I can again be trusted with command."

But in February 1862, General Sherman was reassigned to Paducah, Kentucky, under General Ulysses S. Grant, who saw not insanity but competence in the disgraced General.

Later in the war, when a civilian badmouthed Grant, Sherman defended his friend, saying, "General Grant is a great General. He stood by me when I was crazy, and I stood by him when he was drunk. And now, sir, we stand by each other always."

Some say there is a fine line between genius and insanity. General Sherman had a genius to wage "Total War."  It is the concept that says that you will wage a war that your enemy will not want to fight you because he sees that you are both tenacious and horrific.

General Ulysses S. Grant wasn’t the bloodiest general of the war—Robert E. Lee was.

It is said that Mary Lincoln called General Grant a "butcher" for the huge losses that were sustained by his troops during the Overland Campaign in the spring of 1864—twice the number of casualties as General Lee’s Army.

Researchers now believe that if casualties are counted proportionally, then Lee’s Army suffered the most throughout the Civil War.

This is because General Lee relished the attack, a trait that won him key battles such as Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg but cost him heavy casualties.  Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg is an example, and it eventually decimated the Army of Northern Virginia.

By the end of the war, Unionists, those loyal to the Union, from every Southern state except the state of South Carolina had sent regiments to fight for the North.

During the American Civil War, Union forces used their naval ships to create a blockade of southern ports. Known as the "Anaconda Plan," this blockade stretched from the Maryland coast down the eastern seaboard, around Florida, and into the Gulf of Mexico. The goal was to prevent supplies from reaching Confederate troops. By the end of the war the US Navy sunk 1504 blockade runners.

Both before and all during the Civil War, President Lincoln pushed to return slaves to Africa, or settle them in their own colony in South America.

The policy, called "Colonization," had been supported by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, and Henry Clay.

Even the writer Harriet Beecher Stowe, whose protagonists in “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” ultimately emigrate from the United States to Africa.

In August 1862, Lincoln brought five black ministers to the White House and told them that slavery and the war had demonstrated that it would be "better for us both, therefore, to be separated."

His idea was to send blacks back to Africa, or to Central America, and even went so far as to call for a Constitutional Amendment authorizing Congress to pay for the relocation and Colonization.  President Lincoln never got the support he needed for the idea, and after he signed the Emancipation Proclamation he never mentioned it publicly again.

On May 13, 1865, a month after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, Private John J. Williams of the 34th Indiana became the last man killed in the Civil War, in a battle at Palmito Ranch, Texas. The final skirmish was a Confederate victory.

62,000 men were under General Sherman during his march to the sea.

There were no communication lines to or from General Sherman during his march to the sea. It was only when he reached Atlanta that he notified others where he was.

At the start of the war, the value of all manufactured goods produced in all the Confederate states added up to less than one-fourth of those produced in New York State alone.

The First Maine Heavy Artillery suffered 635 casualties in seven minutes at Petersburg. The unit began with 900 men.

At Spotsylvania, Robert E lee’s horse, Traveller, was spooked and reared up just in time for a canon ball to pass under him. Traveller was usually calm in battle.

At the battle of Ball’s Bluff more than 200 Union soldiers were killed or wounded, and 700 were missing and presumed drowned. Captured by the Confederates were the grandson of Paul Revere and the son of Oliver Wendell Holmes.

The Civil War produced not only the first income tax, but also the first "Sin tax" on tobacco and alcohol, a luxury tax on jewels and a license tax. In addition to this, the South imposed a 10% "tax in kind" which required farmers to turn over a portion of their crops.

The total number of Americans killed in the Civil War is greater than the combined total of Americans killed in all other wars.

The Union ironclad, Monitor, was the first U.S. ship to have a flush toilet.

The US federal income tax was first enacted in 1862 to support the Union's Civil War effort. It was eliminated in 1872, revived in 1894 then declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court the following year.

More than 20,000 men were killed, wounded, or missing in action in the battle of Antietam, September 17, 1862. This was the bloodiest one-day fight during the Civil War.

On December 20, 1860, South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union.

Before the war started General Robert E. Lee led the U.S. Marines against John Brown at Harper's Ferry, JEB Stuart was his aide.

And finally, at Spotsylvania, General Robert E Lee’s horse, Traveller, is said to have been spooked and reared up just in time for a canon ball to pass under him. Traveller was usually calm in battle.

 Imagine that!

Obama Attacks Catholic-Americans!

It's called "Our First Freedom." It is the reason people came here willingly.

It is listed in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights which is the First Ten Amendments of the United States Constitution.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It is our right to exercise our religion freely. And yes, it is listed before "abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble..."

Yet right now, Barack Hussein Obama and his White House are actually in the process of directly breaking the law as guaranteed to us in the Constitution.

It would be interesting if the White House set a mandate for all Muslims to eat pork. It would be interesting if the Federal Government, along with demanding by law that Islamic schools serve swine, that it now required that Muslim men must give up praying 5 times a day, or require that Muslim women abandon their religious dress and rid themselves of the veil and burka.

Yes, it would be interesting if the White House required lessons given and material be furnished discouraging other Muslims from following the teachings of Islam.

Well, it is true. But it is not the Muslim faith who is under attack, it is the Catholic faith and their hospitals, schools, and other Catholic religious venues.

If it were really happening the Muslims, then the ACLU and all sorts of other Liberal organizations would be carrying torches in front of the White House.

But instead, there is no real outcry from the usual Liberal Left anti-Government abuse organizations. Why? It's because it's the Catholics that are being told to change their fundamental believes to conform to Obama White House demands and mandate.

With the Republican Primaries occupying most of the News these days, the word about this horrible infringement on our rights as Americans and Christian-Catholics is slow to get out.

But the over abundance of politics has not stopped one Catholic Bishop from speaking out against the Obama Health Mandate, Bishop Thomas Olmstead today called on Catholics to defy an Obama administration mandate.

He is fighting the mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services because it forces charities, schools and hospitals with a religious affiliation to provide birth control coverage as part of its health plan.

Not a big deal you say? Well, what if birth control goes against your religious beliefs? What if abortion goes against your religious beliefs? What if this goes against that whole "separation of church and state" that the Liberal Left is always talking about and so fervent to uphold?

"This is contrary as to who we are as Americans. Liberty, freedom is very much as to why we began as a nation," said Bishop Thomas Olmstead on News Talk 550 KFYI.

He and other Catholic leaders across the country are fighting the Obama administration on the issue of birth control as a mandatory part of an employee health insurance. Churches would be exempt, but not other religious institutions.

The Bishop says the issue is being "forced down their throats."

"The health department is trying to define who religious institutes. Catholic charities, hospitals, colleges are not religious institutions, but who gives the government the right to define religious institutions?" said Bishop Olmstead.

"The issue here is we want to make sure that women, all women, have access to good health care," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney reiterated Thursday.

"The fact is, on average, an American women uses contraception for 30 years of her life with the average cost of contraception at $50 per month. So this is both an issue of health as well as economics for women across the country."

So let's see if I have this right? Not only does White House Press Secretary Jay Carney think that Catholic hospitals, schools and churches should allow birth control in Catholic facilities where it goes directly against the teaching of the Catholic faith - but he expects the Catholic Church to pay for it as well.

Now that's cojones!

The White House is no stranger in using strong arm tactics to force their regulations on American citizens. And yes, American businesses, both large and small, have felt the pressure of the Chicago Style Strong Arm tactics coming out of the Obama White House.

The weapon of choice for the Obama White House is to state flatly that Employers who deny birth control coverage could face big fines - according to Obama Care regulations that go into effect soon.

But in a letter to Phoenix-area Catholics, Bishop Olmstead urged Catholics to ignore the mandate.

"I’m telling them they have to be Catholics first, our beliefs are more important than anything else in our lives. We need to fight this with all means available to us so that this is not imposed, so we are not forced to violate our conscious in our own freedom," wrote Bishop Olmstead.

This unconstitutional Federal government mandate is set to take effect in March, but we should not adhere to their demands. I say take this White House to the Supreme Court!

I know I sound pretty angry about this, and there's a reason. My friends, my mother, my father, my grandfather, my great-grand fathers, my whole family is born and raised Catholic. In the name of the Blessed Mother, we should not allow our church to be violated for any reason - and certainly not political reasons.

Folks shouldn't be fooled into thinking that the Obama White House is a friend of Catholic-Americans. This is a direct attack on our religious freedoms as Americans. And no, it should not be passively answered, nor bowed to!

More Random Shots - Kenya or Hawaii, What's True?!

First Shot!

Oakland California's Liberal attitude is costing that city a great deal of city revenue.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, along with other Oakland City Officials have begun inspecting damage inside City Hall caused by more than 50 Occupy protesters.

The Liberal "peaceful" protesters who want to turn America into a dump site for Socialism broke in and wrecked havoc on the city building by smashing glass display cases, spray-painting graffiti, and burning the American and California flags among other things.

Saturday’s break-in was the end to a day of warfare between protesters and police. Oakland's interim Police Chief Howard Jordan said that nearly 400 people were arrested on charges ranging from failure to disperse and vandalism.

Mayor Quan said on Sunday that the Occupy protesters have caused an estimated $2 million in vandalism since October. She said the cost to the city related to the Occupy Oakland protests is pegged at about $5 million.

So much for their concern for the so-called "99%"!

After all, that's who will have to pay the bills when the city of Oakland, like other cities around the country, finally gets the tab for all their trashing of these cities.

I say charge the protesters for the damage they cost. If they can't pay it, then send them to prison for two years. And print their names in the local papers, as well as make them posted in public somehow, so that their destructive behavior will have an affect on their future.

Folks, we have a lot more folks going to prison these days for doing a lot less than what these dipsticks have been doing. There has to be a consequence to their actions, and it shouldn't be paid for by their rich parents. It is well known in the Police Community that most, if not all, of these protester come from very wealthy families.

Their parents, who can afford to send those young people to some of the best Universities in the nation, have been bailing their no good rearends out of trouble for years. Maybe that should stop! Maybe one day their parents will say to their kids, "OK, you want a taste of Socialism first hand - go to prison!"

After all, Prisons are about as Socialist a society as a society can get!

Next Shot!

A new survey out asks the question, What Are the Best Places to Live in California - With No Gangs? After seeing their results, I believe that their question should have been, What Are the Best Big Cities to Live in California - With Fewer Gangs?

Acording to data from 2008, it is believed that Gang Membership in the United States is at around One Million Members. That, my friends, is a lot of Gang Members!

While gang violence is now reaching into places around the country that has never seen such a thing. California is still number one when it comes to gangs.

Why? Well, simply put, they like the big cities and absolutely thrive in the urban areas - especially in the Pacific and Southwestern states. As the economy gets worse and the availability of drugs become better as they flow unrestrained across the Mexican Border, gang membership grows.

The joke in this report is that someone believes that three California cities exempt from this problem, as they put it, "California offers numerous cities that offer safe living."

One city they have listed is the city of Mission Viejo, in Southern California located between Los Angeles and San Diego.  Their report talks about "Mission Viejo's rich history" and so on.

But folks, this is what they believe, they believe that Mission Viejo is the fourth-safest city in the United States. They go on to say, "the city outranks all others in California. As of 2009, the Orange County Sheriff's Department protected Mission Viejo's 100,242 residents, with crime rates typically two-thirds below state crime rates and about half countrywide crime rates."

These folks think that two-thirds below the state crime rate, and half nation wide, is supposedly good! Wow!

There next choice is Lake Forest which sits roughly six miles north of Mission Viejo. Lake Forest falls in the position of sixth-safest city in the United States and second-safest in California. According to the town's official website, Lake Forest hosts crime prevention programs specific to both neighborhoods and businesses, and an anonymous hot line to report gang activity (800-NO-GANGS).

Similar hot lines exist for graffiti and drugs. The Orange County Sheriff's Department answers these calls and serves Lake Forest's 78,344 residents.

But wait, according to the State of California, as of 2009, Orange County has a violent crime rate of 7,429 for the entire county which breaks it down to 235.4 for every 100,000 residents. And, again according to 2009 statistics, Orange County has property crime rate of 32,233 for that year - that's an 1,021.5 for every 100,000 residents average. To me, that doesn't sound too great at all.

According to the report, Sunnyvale, located in the South end of the San Francisco Bay, with its 135,721 residents enjoys a low crime rate. Amongst Silicon Valley industries, Sunnyvale is an hour or so from San Francisco.

Of course, none of the three cities listed are isolated from the connecting cities all around it which do have gang violence. So really, I don't understand how they can recommend the places they do, when the adjoining metropolitan area is ripe in crime and gang violence.

I guess it's one way of trying to make manure smell better. Tell them that the best city to line in, in California that doesn't have Gangs, only smells one-third as bad as the other manure in the area!

Third Shot!

According to a story out of Washington D.C., the Justice Department is tightening procedures for responding to information requests from Congress in the aftermath of a troubled arms trafficking investigation.

In its gun running program called Operation Fast and Furious, The Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allowed hundreds of weapons to flow across the border and into the hands of Mexico's murderous Drug Cartels.

According to reports out of Washington, the Justice Department told three congressional committees in a letter Friday night that it's improved coordination between agents and their managers in carrying out arms trafficking investigations.

OK, but that still doesn't answer as to who is responsible for allowing the free flow of weapons into the hands of those killing hundreds, if not thousands, on the border?

No one is taking responsibility. Attorney General Eric Holder is claiming he knew nothing about it. Obama says Holder is innocent. No one seems to know anything in the Obama White House!

Many of us remember how George W Bush was ridiculed in the Left wing News Media for allegedly being stupid. Well friends, Obama makes Bush look like Einstein!  Barack has no clue as to what's going on in his own administration!

Attorney General Eric Holder will probably be faced with more questions about his involvement and the recent changes when he again testifies before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. That committee has been investigating the department's mistakes in the probe since early last year.

I don't know how much involvement the Attorney General had in this gun running Operation, or if the Operation was approved by President Obama. I do know that whenever questions have been asked, the White House circles its wagon in the same way that the Nixon Administration did.

Some say the Nixon rule for his White House was "deny everything, or take the fifth!" Maybe it's the same for this White House?

Last Shot For The Night!

Yes, a Georgia Judge heard evidence on Thursday from local citizens referred to in the Liberal Media as "Birthers." But no, he did not rule on whether President Barack Obama can be on the state ballot in November.

The challenge was brought by Georgia residents who believe Obama was born in his father’s homeland of Kenya, and not in the United States.  The U.S. Constitution requires that a person running for president must be a "natural-born U.S. citizen."

Many find it strange that President Obama produced a Birth Certificate from the State of Hawaii - and yet there is no record anywhere of his mother ever being admitted to, or treated at, any hospital in the state of Hawaii on any of the islands.

President Obama, and his attorneys, did not attend the hearing. But the lawyers for the plaintiffs argued that President Obama should be held in Contempt of Court for his failure to appear, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"It shows not just a contempt for this court, but contempt for the judicial branch," lawyer Van Irion said, the Journal Constitution reported.

"I'm not interested in commentary on that, counselor," Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi replied.

A lot of the Obama birth certificate controversy sort of died down last year when the White House produced a birth certificate supposedly showing that he was indeed born in Hawaii.

Then the problems started up again when questions started circulating about that Obama birth certificate. Some are saying that the White House produced an actual fake - which was photo-shopped.

It's sort of like Obama's Social Security card, the number is in question because it's supposedly from a state that he never lived in. So people ask, how did he get it? That's the sort of thing that leads to other questions.
Obama’s lawyer, Michael Jablonski, wrote to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp asking him to call off the hearing, since, as Jablonski says, "it is well established that there is no legitimate issue here," the Journal Constitution reported.

Jablonski indicated he did not plan to attend the hearing. But state secretary Kemp said, the state of Georgia was obliged to consider all challenges and warned that Jablonski and his client would be taking a risk if they didn’t show.

There is no indication when Judge Malihi will issue a ruling.

Even if this is dropped, I hope no one thinks this issue is over - because it surely isn't. Not by a long shot!

The Late 1800s - U.S. Marine Action Overseas

Preview
A few readers have asked an interesting question, "After the Civil War, and up until 1900, what else did the U.S. military do besides fight Indians?"

The idea here is well taken. If you go with what Hollywood has to offer, then I can see how someone can really believe that all the U.S. military did after the Civil War was to build forts, fight Indians, and rescue settlers throughout the West.

I can see how some folks out there would have the impression that the only military action during the time was against Indian tribes here. After all, when most people think of the period in American History, they think of Custer getting wiped out at the Little Big Horn, or maybe have the impression that the only thing our military did in those days was fight Indians like say in John Wayne's "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" down in the South-West.

In reality, the United States Navy and the Marine Corps had America's military seeing action all over the world. No kidding! All over the world. The fact is American citizens were well known to live in many parts of the world, even in the early 1800s. For one reason or another, American interest spread like wildfire long before the Civil War.  Along with our interest came influence and, in many cases, problems.

Contrary to what some would say, it was the American Spirit that moved people to venture from our shores. The same American Pioneer Spirit that moved thousands upon thousands of Americans to go West and settle - also moved Americans around the globe to explorer new lands.

On April 9th, 1865, Gen. Robert E. Lee surrenders his Confederate Army to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at the village of Appomattox Court House in Virginia.  General Grant allows Rebel officers to keep their sidearms and permits soldiers to keep horses and mules.

On March 9th and 10th, 1865, a full month before Lee's surrender and the official end of the Civil War, the U.S. Navy landed U.S. Marines in Panama to protect the lives and property of American residents because of a revolution that was getting out of hand.

From June 20th to July 7th, 1866, in China, U.S. Navy and Marines retaliated against a group of Chinese for their assault on the American consul at Newchwang.

While it is true that the Navy and Marine Corps were key to conflicts around the world, in November of 1866, the U.S. Army was deployed to Mexico to protect American residents along our Southern Border. Or rather, a unit under General Sedgwick deployed itself to defend the U.S. - Mexico border.

It's true, U.S. Army General Thomas D. Sedgwick and 100 Soldiers left Brownsville, Texas, and crossed the Rio Grande to obtain the surrender of the city of Matamoras, where outlaws had ruled the town. They did this without orders from Washington. After 3 days and a quick campaign to rid the border of problems, General Sedgwick was ordered by the Chiefs in Washington to withdraw. Later, his act was repudiated by the President as an act of an over-zealous Officer. But yes, it took care of the problem for a while!

In early 1867, U.S. Marines landed and occupied the towns of Managua and Leon in Nicaragua.

That same year on June 13th, across the Pacific Ocean in Formosa, what is today called Taiwan, U.S. Naval forces landed Marines to burn several huts in retaliation against those who murdered the ship's crew of a wrecked American merchant vessel.

In 1868, from February 4th to 8th, April 4th to May 12th, June 12th, and 13th. U.S. Naval forces landed Marines in Osaka, Hiolo, Nagasaki, Yokohama, and Negata, Japan, to protect American interests during a Civil War in Japan. Their Civil War broke out over the abolition of the Shogunate and the restoration of the Mikado - the Emperor of Japan.

On February 7th and 8th, 19th to 26th of 1868, U.S. Naval forces landed U.S. Marines in Uruguay to protect foreign residents and the custom-house during an insurrection at Montevideo.

In April of that same year, 1868, this time in Colombia, U.S. Naval forces landed Marines there to protect passengers and treasure in transit at Aspinwall during the absence of local police or Colombian military on the occasion of the death of the President of Colombia.

Two years later, on June 17 and 18th of 1870, the U.S. Navy was 40 miles up the Rio Tecapan in Mexico where they destroyed the pirate ship Forward that had been run aground.

In 1870, on September 21, the United States Navy had its first mission in the Hawaiian Islands.

The U.S. Navy landed Marines to place the American flag was at half-mast at the American consul. It was upon the death of Queen Kalama, who was the wife of King Kamehameha III, and the American consul there in Honolulu would not assume responsibility for lowering the American flag to half-mast. Imagine that! That shows that there have always been people out there who don't want to take responsibility for things.

From June 10th to the 12th in 1871, the U.S. Navy and Marines attacked and captured five forts in Korea

Their mission was in retaliation for the depredations on Americans. Particularly for murdering the crew of the USS General Sherman and burning the schooner and for later firing on other small American boats taking soundings up the Salee River.

In 1873, on May 7th to 22nd, September 23rd to October 9th,  U.S. Naval forces again landed Marines in Colombia at the Bay of Panama to protect American citizens during hostilities over possession of the government of the State of Panama.

In 1873, Americans were again in Mexico. This time the United States Army Soldiers crossed the U.S.-Mexican border to pursue cattle rustlers, thieves, bandits, and murderers that raided the American towns along the border.

In fact, American troops actually entered Mexico repeatedly while chasing the bandits. Yes, there were some reciprocal pursuits by Mexican troops into the border territory as well. Mexico protested frequently. Notable cases were at Remolina in May 1873 and at Las Cuevas in 1875. Against the wishes of Mexico and working on behalf of the American people, Washington's orders often supported these excursions. From this, agreements between Mexico and the United States, the first in 1882, finally legitimized such raids. They continued intermittently, with minor disputes, until 1896.

From February 12th to 20th of 1874, U.S. Naval forces again landed U.S.Marines in Hawaii. This time it was at the request of the Hawaiian government. Yes, it's true!

As a result of the Hawaiian government's request, two Marine Detachments were landed to restore order to the rioting in Honolulu, fight a rebellion instituted by the opposition candidate, and assist with the orderly coronation of King David Kalakaua.

During the fighting, the Marines actually seized most government buildings. That was 1874, and U.S. Marines occupied the city armory, the Hawaiian treasury, the station house, the Honolulu jail, and the Honolulu Courthouse, which was their main objective. All in all, U.S. Marines had control of the entire Hawaiian government. Then, in just under two weeks of sporadic fighting, they had order restored. The Marines returned power to King Kalakaua and returned to their ships.

It is interesting to note that Hawaiians hated Kalakaua a great deal back then, yet today he is probably Hawaii's most beloved King. He is commonly referred to as "The Merry Monarch."

In 1876 on May 18th, again, U.S. Army forces from Texas entered Mexico to police the town of Matamoras temporarily while it was without other government authorities.

From July 14th to the 18th of 1882, this time in Egypt, U.S. Navy forces landed Marines to protect American citizens and interests during warfare between the British and Egyptians. The Arabs there had all but completely destroyed the city of Alexandria through mass looting and violence. Marines restored order there before leaving.

On January 18th and 19th, 1885, again in Panama. This time U.S. Marines were landed to guard valuables in transit over the Panama Railroad.

Then in March, April, and May, in the cities of Colon and Panama, the Marines helped reestablish freedom of transit during the revolutionary activity there.

In June of 1888, the U.S. Navy sent Marines ashore to protect American residents in Seoul, Korea, during unsettled political conditions when an outbreak of the populace was expected.

By December 20th of that same year in 1888, the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps persuaded the Haitian Government to give up an American steamer they had seized on the charge of breach of a blockade in Haiti.

From November 14th, 1888, to March 20th, 1889. the U.S. Navy again landed Marines. This time it was in Samoa to protect American citizens and the Consulate during their Civil War.

In 1889, on July 30th and 31st, U.S. Marines were again in the Hawaiian Islands. This time, Marines protected American citizens and interests in Honolulu during a small revolution within the Hawaiian monarchy.

It was called the Dominis Conspiracy and was named after Liliuokalani, who also went by the alias Lydia K. Dominis. She had plotted to overthrow her brother for the throne. The plot was to overthrow King David Kalakaua, King of Hawaii, and replace him with herself, his sister, in a coup d'etat. But no, it didn't work!

That coup was also known as the Wilcox Rebellion because Robert Wilcox, who was her cousin and raised in Italy in Military Schools there, was organized the Coup. In fact, he tried leading quite a few coup d'etat. It didn't matter against who. He had no idea of what loyalty meant.

First, he was on the side of Liliuokalani, who was the sister of King David Kalakaua. She would later become Queen Liliuokalani after the death of King Kalakaua. Then later, Wilcox decided that he was against her. Yes, in a strange twist of fate, a few years later, after Liliuokalani became Queen, Wilcox organizes another plot in 1892 by forming a group called the Hawaiian Patriotic League to enact a coup against her Queen Liliuokalani. But then, in 1893, Queen Liliuokalani, who originally conspired to a coup against her brother, ended up losing her throne to even another coup d'etat by members of her own cabinet.

In 1890, U.S. Marines landed to protect the U.S. consulate and legation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from unrest in that country.

In 1891, in Haiti, U.S. Naval forces sought to protect American lives and property on Navassa Island.

From July 2nd to October 5th of 1891, way up North in the Bering Strait, the U.S. Navy was tasked with stopping seal poaching.

From August 28th to the 30th of 1891, U.S. Naval forces and Marines landed in Chile to protect the American consulate and the women and children who had taken refuge in it during a revolution in Valparaiso.

From January 16th to April 1st of 1893, the U.S. Marines were back in Hawaii.  Again the Marines landed to protect American lives and property there, and again at the request of the Hawaiian government. Unlike in 1874, this time, the Marines did not fire a shot. They did not take control of any government building, seize any property, jail anyone, or conduct any Combat Action.

The fact is that they were there because of the potential unrest as the internal crisis within the Hawaiian government continued. About 160 Marines landed and were given specific orders by Captain G. C. Wiltse to "land in Honolulu for the purpose of protecting our legation, consulate, and the lives and property of American citizens, and to assist in preserving public order."

Just as they did in 1874? Well, yes. The Marines had seen the riots and rebellion of 1874 in Hawaii, and it was less than 20 years past that they had to  "preserve public order" in Honolulu. They understood very well just how bad it could get.

U.S. Marines and Sailors from U.S.S. Boston
As U.S. peacekeepers, Marines were stationed at Arion Hall, the U.S. Consulate, and the U.S. Legation, under orders of strict neutrality and out of any potential line of fire between the Provisional Government and Royalist forces.

Since Hawaiian History says that the Queen surrendered to "the superior force of the United States of America," what did the Marines do?

Well, unlike 1874, American Marine did nothing at all in 1893. They were ordered to assume a position of neutrality and simply stood by for orders. Yes, they waited. They basically positioned themselves and camped out at the legislation building across from Iolani Palace and waited for orders, then they returned to their ship.

In January of 1894, the U.S. military was in Brazil.  The U.S. Navy was there to protect American commerce and shipping at Rio de Janeiro during the Brazilian Civil War.  Again, as was the case in Hawaii, U.S. Marines stoodby in the ready.

From July 6th to August 7th of 1894, U.S. forces sought to protect American interests at Bluefields following a revolution in Nicaragua.

In 1894 and 1895, U.S. Marines were stationed at Tientsin in China and moved to Peking for protection purposes during the Sino-Japanese War. While the Marines were moving, support the legation in Peking, a U.S. Navy ship, the U.S.S. Petrel was beached and used as a fort at Newchwang for the protection of American nationals aboard. It became known as "Fort Petrel" as all hands made ready for attacks and prayed for a fair outcome.

During that same time, July 24th, 1894 to April 3rd, 1896, in Korea,  U.S. Marines were sent to protect the American legation and American lives and interests at Seoul during and after the Sino-Japanese War.

On March 8th and 9th of 1895, the U.S. Navy and Marines protected American interests during an attack on the town of Bocas del Toro by a bandit chieftain in Colombia.

On May 2nd and 4th of 1896, again in Nicaragua, U.S. forces were there to protect American lives and interests in Corinto during political unrest there.

Then again, two years later, in 1898 in Nicaragua, on February 7th and 8th, U.S. Marines were landed to protect American lives and property at San Juan del Sur.

Of course, on April 25th of 1898The Spanish-American War started when the United States declared war with Spain. The declaration of War followed the sinking of an American Battleship, the U.S.S. Maine, in the Havana harbor on February 15, 1898, and a Cuban insurrection against Spanish rule.

The U.S. supported Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines for independence against Spanish rule. This would be the first declared war fought overseas by the United States, and it involved campaigns in both Cuba and the Philippine Islands. The majority of Spanish-American War soldiers were volunteers from all over the United States to do their part.

War began in Cuba after it was believed that the Spanish sank the USS Maine in Havana Harbor on February 15th, 1898. By June, U.S. Marines captured Guantanamo Bay, and the U.S. Army landed at Siboney and Daiquiri, east of Santiago, Cuba.

U.S. troops attacked the San Juan heights on July 1, 1898. Dismounted cavalry troopers, including the African-American Ninth and Tenth cavalries and the Rough Riders, commanded by Lt. Col. Theodore Roosevelt, went up against Kettle Hill. This, while other U.S. forces led by Brigadier General Jacob Kent charged up San Juan Hill and pushed Spanish troops further inland while inflicting 1,700 casualties.

The Spanish fleet guarding the Philippines was defeated by the U.S. Navy under the command of Commodore George Dewey on May 1, 1898.  President McKinley authorized the assembling of troops to mount a campaign against the capital of Manila, not realizing Dewey's win.

On August 13th, American soldiers captured the city of Manila, unaware that the Spanish-American War had actually ended a day earlier. Guam was captured without a shot being fired. Well, actually, the facts are that Captain Henry Class on the U.S.S. Charleston fired two warning shots on June 20th. A Spanish officer in charge of the island's garrison boarded the ship and requested to borrow some powder to return the ship's salute! The Spaniards were told that the United States and Spain were at war, and after getting the island Governor to the ship. Guam officially surrendered. True story!

After just 109 days, the Spanish-American War ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898. The war established the independence of Cuba, ceded Puerto Rico and Guam to the United States, and allowed the U.S. to purchase the Philippines Islands from Spain for $20 million. The war cost the United States $250 million and 3,000 lives, 90% of whom perished from yellow fever, typhoid fever, and other infectious diseases.

The war served to repair relations between the American North and South. The war gave both sides a common enemy for the first time since the end of the Civil War in 1865, and many friendships were formed between soldiers of northern and southern states during their tours of duty. This was an important development since many soldiers in this war were the children of Civil War veterans on both sides.

From November 5, 1898, to March 15, 1899, the U.S. Navy and Marines provided a guard for the legation at Peking and the consulate at Tientsin during a contest between the Dowager Empress and her son in China.

In 1899, U.S. Marines were again in Nicaragua. American and British naval forces landed Marines to protect national interests at San Juan del Norte, February 22 to March 5, then again at Bluefields a few weeks later in connection with the insurrection of Gen. Juan P. Reyes.

February to May of 1899, American and British naval forces were landed to protect national interests and to take part in a bloody contention over the succession to the throne in Samoa.

Officially in 1899, the Philippine-American War started. The Philippine-American War was a direct result of what happened when the U.S. forces took control of the Philippine Islands after defeating the Spanish in the Spanish-American War. It was sort of what happened in Iraq. A short war to rid the place of despots and dictators, then insurgents and guerrilla warfare for the next ten years or more. While it is said that the U.S. defeated the Filipinos in their war for independence in 1902, the fact is that it lingered on, in one shape or another until, well after the last battle in 1913. American Soldiers were still being killed in the Philippines even into the 1920s and '30s!

From May 24th to September 28th in the year 1900, it was China, and it was called the Boxer Rebellion.
Britain, U.S., British India, Germany, France, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Japan

A small detachment of U.S. Marines and token military units and diplomats of eight other nations, Britain, British India, Germany, France, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Japan, defended the legation in Peking China. The defenders withstood horrendous attack after attack while protecting the foreigners in the legation and the Chinese-Christians living there.

The Boxers formed beginning in 1898. They were groups of peasants in northern China that band together into a Secret Society known as "Iho Ch'uan," also known as the "Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists."

Americans called them "Boxers," mostly because the Western press started called them "Boxers. The reason was that members of the "Iho Ch'uan" practiced boxing and calisthenic rituals. Thus they became known as "Boxers." They believed boxing and fitness would make them impervious to bullets.

So OK, Boxers weren't very bright! But friends, there were lots of them! Actually, there were more Boxers than we had ammo to defend the legation.

History says that the Boxers wanted to destroy the Ching dynasty at first, which had ruled China for over 250 years. They also wanted to rid China of all foreign influence they considered a threat to the Chinese culture. The Chinese Empress knew that the Boxers needed a distraction, so the Empress Dowager backed the Boxers -  and the Boxers turned solely to ridding China of foreigners.

By late 1899, bands of Boxers were massacring European and American-Christian missionaries - and Chinese-Christians every chance they had. By May of 1900, the Boxer Rebellion had come out of the countryside and was being waged in the capital of Peking - what is today Beijing. On June 18, 1900, the Empress Dowager ordered all foreigners to be killed.  Several foreign ministers and their families were murdered by ambush and mobs of Boxers.

The legation not only survived, but they also prevailed by holding out for 55 days. That was when a combined international military force of over 20,000 took Peking and subdued the Boxer Rebellion. For many years after this experience, a permanent legation guard of U.S. Marines was maintained in Peking and was strengthened at times as trouble threatened.

For the Chinese, the result of the Boxer Rebellion was that of weakening the Ching dynasty's power and hastened the Republican Revolution of 1911 that overthrew the boy emperor and made China a republic.

And by the way, after reading this, ask yourself this, why didn't we plant our flag and claim all sorts of territory, like say the British and French did all over the world? If it is true that we Americans were this huge "imperialist power" as many say we were, then why didn't we make colonies out of all of the places I've listed above?

Yes, especially those places where we lost troops? The answer is that we were not an "imperialist power," and the term is used for "American influence and interest," not territorial claims.

While some may have a picture of America as being only involved with the settling of the West from 1865 to 1900, that was only a part of what was going on at the time. Those who fought in the Indian Wars, who may have served under Custer, who may have chased Apaches, and who were responsible for taking on bandits along the Mexican border, they were not the only American troops who had their hands full - and followed the Stars and Stripes in harm's way. There were many on distant shores in far-off lands who never came home.

Many were cowboys and farmers, butchers, blacksmiths, wheel-makers, and more. The same men who enlisted to be ready for duty and immediate deployment saw action around the world no differently than those who fought in the Civil War, than those who fought the Sioux and Apache during the Indian Wars or chased Mexican bandits. All were men who did their duty and fought overseas in many places that were unknown to folks back home. And indeed, many found their graves in exotic lands of story and mystery.

Of course, while that is the case, they too should also be remembered.

That's just how I see it.

Barack Obama's 32 Month Report Card - by Rich Carroll

Mr. Hope and Change wants to create a nation humbled; humiliated, casting-aside capitalism and individual freedoms for one where we the people are government controlled. This would be a system that genuflects mediocrity, steals personal aspiration and opportunity, and punishes those who strive to succeed.

A gallon of regular gasoline the day Obama was inaugurated was $1.79 on average in the U.S.
Today that price is $3.59, a 100.6% increase.

The number of food stamp recipients has risen since Obama took office from 31,983,716 to 43,200,878, a 35.1% jump.

Long term unemployment soared 146.2% during the same 32 month period from 2,600,000 to 6,400,000. Staggering hope and change isn't it?

American citizens living in poverty have risen 9.5% from 39,800,000 to 43,600,000, and the number of unemployed has jumped almost 25% from 11,616,000 to 14,485,000 as of August 31, 2011.

The number of unemployed blacks has risen from 12.6% at the end of George Bush's term to 15.8% today, a 25.4% increase, and finally, our national debt is up 34.4% from 10.627 trillion to 14,278 trillion *

Keep these figures in mind as we recount the number of firsts for this presidency:
  • First President to refuse to show a valid birth certificate.
  • First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.

  • First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico .
  • First President to defy a Federal Judges court order to cease implementing the Health Care Reform Law.
  • First President to require all Americans to purchase a product from a third party.
  • First President to spend a trillion dollars on shovel-ready jobs and later admit there was no such thing as shovel-ready jobs.
  • First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.
  • First President to by-pass Congress and implement the Dream Act through executive fiat.
  • First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S., including those with criminal convictions.
  • First President to demand a company hand-over $20 billion to one of his political appointees.
  • First President to terminate Americas ability to put a man in space.
  • First President to encourage racial discrimination and intimidation at polling places.
  • First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.
  • First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.
  • First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly speak-out on the reasons for their rate increases.

  • First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.
  • First President to fire an inspector general of Ameri-corps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case.
  • First President to appoint 45 Czars to replace elected officials in his office.
  • First President to golf 73 separate times in his first two and a half years in office.
  • First President to hide his medical, educational and travel records.
  • First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.
  • First President to coddle American enemies while alienating Americas allies.
  • First President to publicly bow to Americas enemies while refusing to salute the U.S. Flag.
  • First President to go on multiple global apology tours.
  • First President to go on 17 lavish vacations, including date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends, paid for by the taxpayer.
  • First President to refuse to wear the U.S. Flag lapel pin.
  • First President to hold his crotch during our national anthem.
  • First President to have 22 personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.
  • First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000.00 a year at taxpayer expense.
  • First President to repeat the Holy Qur'an tells us, and openly admits the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth.
Remember that in 32 months of Obama White House we the people have accumulated national debt at a rate more than 27 times as fast as during the rest of our nation's entire history, as the Obama's plan their next extravagant vacation to the Indonesian Island nation of Bali .

Hope and change anyone ?????????
