Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists Fear Fracking In Fairfield, Illinois

The national trend in fossil fuel exploration in state and private lands may transform the small town into an oil boom town.

Fairfield, Illinois, is the county seat of Wayne County, the site of Frontier Community College, Fairfield Community High School, Fairfield Memorial Hospital, and Airtex - an auto parts manufacturing facility. The population is around 5,154 by the 2010 census.

According to Wikipedia, Fairfield's median income for a household in the city was $25,797, and the median income for a family was $36,278.  About 8.5% of the families and 13.1% of the population in Fairfield were below the poverty line, including 16.7% of those under age 18 and 9.6% of those age 65 or over.

Well, it appears that's about to change thanks to oil and natural gas exploration in the United States. Yes, state governments and private citizens are tired of waiting for the Obama White House to get off their butts and do something for Americans - so they have taken it upon themselves to go into action.

BMWs, Lincolns and other cars with Louisiana, Texas and Colorado license plates fill so many parking spaces around the Wayne County Courthouse that it's tough for local residents to find spots for their pickups.

Two blocks west, lunchtime business at Jemini Coffee House nearly doubles on some days with new customers who are a little secretive.

And yes, there is a whole new language taking place with fresh phrases creeping into the local vernacular vocabulary such as "lease hound" and "modern-day Clampetts."

Everyone who grew up in the 1960s watched the TV comedy "The Beverly Hillbillies," about a backwoods family that strikes oil. Many now have their fingers crossed!

Wayne County, a rural locale about 270 miles south of Chicago, is experiencing a land rush thanks to a controversial effort to tap into hard-to-reach oil and gas deposits.

A relatively new twist on a 65-year-old technology, horizontal hydraulic fracturing may enable energy companies to hit pay dirt in Southern Illinois. And representatives of those companies, many of them from big oil states like Texas and Louisiana, are descending on Fairfield and Wayne County.

They are digging, but the first diggings are in the County Courthouse looking through land records as to who owns mineral rights where. Once they pinpoint a parcel, they offer leases to farmers and other owners of those mineral rights - and yes, that can mean a lot of money.

According to one industry representative, as much as $100 million has been spent on leasing rights in the region. Wayne County, with a population of about 17,000, is the state's hot spot. At least six companies are there acquiring leases right now.

Now enter the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists!

A regional group of Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists are scrambling to muster opposition as State Lawmakers rush to stitch together some sort of regulations. Looming over Wayne County and several other Southern Illinois counties is a group of Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists ready to suck the prospect of finacial prosperty right out of Wayne County.

Ah yes, the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists! They are well known in many states around the country.

Is my opinion of them a little too harsh? I don't think so because that's what they do. They can suck the prosperity out of an area faster than anything short of a government program.

Look at what the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists hae done to the once great State of California, the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists have so many Liberal Politicians in their pocket that they have successfully attacked every aspect of the California manufacturing industry and it's huge agriculture industry to the point that businesses are leaving in droves.

Between the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists and the Liberal idea of bleeding business through higher taxes, more businesses are actually leaving California than coming to California - and yes, that's just a fact.

At the heart of what the Environmentalist attack on Fairfield, Illinois, is their dire warning that the sky is falling if energy exploration is continued in the region.

Their extreme position is that they believe that oil exploration in America pits their concept of "an environmental catastrophe" against the promise of energy independence and economic gain for years to come.

Of course, Environmentalists are always trying to say that there is "an environmental catastrophe" for just about everywhere - or maybe that's what they want us to believe?

The Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists are experiencing anxiety amid the excitement and prospect of Fairfield doing well as a result of oil exploration. The last thing Environmentalists groups want to be proven wrong in the open in front of everyone. By all means, they don't want to be exposed as the fraud that they are.

The Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists claim that "Fracking," which is the common term for freeing oil and natural gas by pumping water, sand and chemicals into rock deep beneath the surface, has been around for decades - is dangerous and will end mankind as we know it - or something to that effect.

The Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists believe that it will effect the wells and ground water in the area. What the geniuses don't say is that the high-pressure injections are administered at more than 4,000 feet below ground.

Horizontal oil and gas well drilling has become one of the most valuable technologies ever introduced in the oil industry. It is an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) or gas recovery method that is becoming more and more popular as the price per barrel of oil gets higher.

Unlike a directional well that is drilled to position a reservoir at entry point, a horizontal well is commonly defined as any well in which the lower part of the well bore parallels the oil zone.

The angle of inclination used to drill the well does not have to reach 90° for the well to be considered a horizontal well. Applications for horizontal wells include the exploitation of thin oil-rim reservoirs, avoidance of drawdown-related problems such as water/gas coning, and extension of wells by means of multiple drain holes.

Fracturing the rock allows fossil fuel to be channeled with the sand, water and chemical mix through the well and to the surface from 4,000 feet below the earth is not going to have anything to do with the water tables.

The Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists have a concern is horizontal drilling. In the last decade, companies have been drilling vertical wells, then turning that drilling horizontally through the shale layer, fracking for oil and gas along the way. At 4,000 feet down, the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists don't understand that people can see that their "dooms day" prophecies are just bogus.

The technique has led to speculation that enough fossil fuel can be extracted below the surface of the United States to meet the nation's energy needs for decades. It also has frightened and angered the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists because they want no, none, nada, zip, zero, oil exploration in America  - and they are putting out a lot of money to Liberals and the Democrat Party to see that no exploration is the future of America.

The Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists see this process as "horrible" and "catastrophic."

Concerns in Illinois and elsewhere center on three issues: disclosure of chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing, well-casing standards to limit the risk of contaminants' escape, and the disposal of millions of gallons of leftover toxic water.

But what fails to make the News is the efforts to cleanup the left-over waste and/or return it in place of what was removed. One disposal method injects the liquid several thousand feet underground.

But wait, the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists are now using Mother Nature as a means to explain the "hazards" of fracking. With a new U.S. Department of Interior report in hand that stated that the U.S. Geological Survey found an "uptick" in seismic activity where wastewater injection from many industries - including hydraulic fracturing — has increased significantly.

An "uptick"? What are they saying? Well, they are saying that it is not a real increase - but only a rise and fall, a fluke, an "uptick," in those states include Arkansas, Colorado, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas.

"It's perfectly healthy for people to wonder what's going to happen," said Steve Everley, spokesman for Energy in Depth, a research project supported by the Independent Petroleum Association of America, headquartered in Washington, D.C. "The answers need to be based in fact. (Hydraulic fracturing) is a safe, proven technology."

In addition, the Independent Petroleum Association of America says that states have regulated the technique for more than 60 years "and by any legitimate measure have compiled an impressive record of enforcement in that time."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to release preliminary findings of an ongoing report on the subject in January. Anyone think that the report might be a little biased against oil exploration? It's the EPA, of corse they are!

SM Energy Company, which is based in Denver, is one of the companies acquiring leases in Wayne County. Brent Collins, senior director of planning and investor relations, said the company has exploratory energy programs across the U.S., including Southern Illinois, which has a history of producing oil.

So, if the town of Fairfield and Wayne County have problems getting this going and in the process actually do something that benefits all Americans both in as for Energy Independence and the prices at the pump, blame the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists who would rather make the Oil Rich Middle East wealthy and us even more dependant on them.

As energy companies snap up mineral leases in Wayne County, some residents are optimistic and very hopefully that their town might be the direction America goes in the future - but they are worried because of the pressure brought to bare by the big money political savvy Environmentalist groups who don't give a rip of about American prosperity.

Many Americans are started to recognize that the Prosperity-Sucking Environmentalists are really today's Public Enemies Number One!

RANDOM SHOTS! Washington Hypocricy, Border Patrol Running Guns, Texas Needs Skilled Workers, Oklahoma Govr takes on Dems over Oil, and More!

FIRST SHOT!

Report says Obama White House Pays Women Less Than Men

You ever notice how Washington, D.C., is so chock-full of hypocrites?

Back in 2008, Barck Obama was called "The Great Uniter" yet he has done more to harm racial relations and split the country along racial lines than any other person in our nation's history.

He talks about being for Americans and he talks about no drilling for American oil, of course while pitching alternative energy cars, but he seems to have not given any consideration our country's need to produce the over 6,000 products made from oil. Products that have nothing to do with alternative energy, and everything to do with oil.

Of course, Barack Obama has solid support from the women voters out there. Yes, that's true, even though 92% of all Americans who have lost their jobs under Obama have been women.

But even with the losses of jobs for women, the Hypocrite-In-Chief says he's for helping women in the workplace. What workplace? Well, figures show it's not the White House workplace - that's for certain.

Fact is that President Obama has been outspoken in his criticism of "paycheck discrimination" in that women earn less than men for the same jobs, but an article from The Washington Free Beacon says that reports show that female employees in the Obama White House make considerably less than their male counterparts.

According to the 2011 annual report on the White House staff, female employees earned a median annual salary of $60,000, which was about 18 percent less than the median salary to the male employees $71,000.

Last week the Obama campaign lashed out at Mitt Romney for his failure to immediately endorse the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which is a very controversial law that was enacted in 2009 that made it easier to file discrimination lawsuits.

And yes, I'm sure you've wondered it, but for right now it is not known whether any women employed at the White House have filed lawsuits under the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act. But honestly, if some woman has, I seriously doubt that the Pro-Obama News media would readily report it.

President Obama has frequently criticized the gender pay gap, although he has never spoken about the gender gap that exists in the Obama White House. Ironically, all of his talk about bringing CHANGE to the White House has resulted in his changing the long standing George W. Bush policy of paying all White House employees equally.

"Paycheck discrimination hurts families who lose out on badly needed income," Obama said in a July 2010 statement. "And with so many families depending on women's wages, it hurts the American economy as a whole."

My grandpa would have called that Obama statement one of the worse insults women can possible get. It confirms that he really does recognize that a problem exists and yet still refuses to act to repair the situation in the very place that he has total say on things - in this case the White House.

To add further insult to injury, he actually has the cojones to spit in their faces after he refuses to fix the problem in his own White House by actually asking for their support to do what he's doing for another four more years.

The president and his Democratic allies have accused Republicans of waging a “war on women,” and have touted themselves as champions of female equality. Obama’s rhetoric, however, has not always been supported by his actions. That's a nice way of saying that he's all talk and no action.

In a 2011 article titled "The White House Boys’ Club: President Obama Has a Woman Problem," TIME magazine’s Amy Sullivan detailed the president’s fondness for male-dominated environments.

"There’s a looseness to Obama when he’s hanging out with the boys club that doesn’t appear in co-ed gatherings," she wrote. "The president blows off steam on the golf course with male colleagues and friends. He takes to the White House basketball court with NBA stars, men’s college players, and male cabinet members and members of Congress."

As a presidential candidate in 2008, Obama was criticized for paying the women on his campaign staff much less than the men, and far less than his Republican opponent John McCain was paying his female staffers.

Adlai Stevenson, who was the Democrat presidential candidate in 1952 and 1956, once said, "A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation."

Though Adlai Stevenson may have captured the true Barack Hussein Obama in that quote, I think Tennessee Williams is right on target when he said, "The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that's also a hypocrite!"

SECOND SHOT!

U.S. Border Agent Accused of Smuggling Guns Ordered Detained

News out of El Paso, Texas, is that a U.S. Magistrate Judge ruled on Tuesday that a U.S. Border Patrol agent, who is accused of buying guns in the United States and smuggling them into Mexico for use by Mexican Drug Cartels must remain in jail pending a detention hearing later this week.

U.S. Border Patrol agent Ricardo Montalvo, 28, and his girlfriend Carla Gonzales-Ortiz, 29, appeared in court for the first time since their arrest on Monday. They are charged with conspiracy to buy firearms and more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition and smuggle them into Mexico.

They are accused of acting as "straw" purchasers of at least nine firearms between November 2010 and January 2011. "Straw purchasers" are people who say that they are buying weapons for themselves, but in fact are concealing the real buyers.

The most routine way of smuggling arms, however, is the ant or "hormiga" run is basically repeated trips across the border with one or a few guns.

A legally eligible or "straw" purchaser buys a few weapons, usually cheap .22 caliber rifles, .25-caliber pistols, ".38 specials," and 9mm pistols from gun stores in El Paso and other US border towns and hands the mover to the trafficker, who sneaks them across the border.

Generally this is either done on foot or in the trunk of a car. A smuggler can repeat this process hundreds of times a year, making multiple trips to gun stores in Florida, Texas, and California, in particular.

A grand jury indictment accuses Montalvo and Gonzales-Ortiz of buying guns, which include five AK-47-type pistols, two .380-caliber pistols, and two .22-caliber rifles. The indictment specifies that the guns are favored by Mexican Drug Cartels.

The criminal indictment also says. the pair are accused of also buying more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition, 97 high-capacity magazines and four 37mm flair guns, which are sought by Mexican Cartels for conversion into Grenade Launchers.

Back in the late 1980s, I had a friend who told me that the BATF came to his home to pay him a visit. They received a red flag when he tried buying 10,000 rounds from a cataloge company.

So yes, I'm sure that a U.S. Border Patrol Agent buying five AK-47-type pistols, two .380-caliber pistols, two .22-caliber rifles, 20,000 rounds of ammunition, 97 high-capacity magazines and four 37mm flair guns is going to throw up a red flag somewhere.

The indictment does not say if the weapons were actually smuggled into Mexico.

U.S. Border Patrol Agent Montalvo, who is based in El Paso, Texas, had been on administrative desk duty since January 2011 when the investigation started.

The Obama White House wants Americans to believe that the Mexican Drug Cartels rely on purchases of firearms in the United States. And yes, the Mexican government has often complained about the smuggling across the border.

But the facts, well they do not agree with the rhetoric coming out of the Obama administration. In the last few years huge shipments of fully automatic weapons have been stopped coming into the U.S. on its way to Mexico from China. And no, fully automatic weapons are something that most Americans cannot legally buy unless they have a Class 3 Federal Firearms License.

China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO), a commercial shipping company owned by the Communist Chinese government is at issue in this respect. COSCO has been linked to gun smuggling operations of guns from China's defense-related companies. China is believed to be bringing in thousands of illegal fully automatic weapon through U.S. ports like the Port of Long Beach which they control and ports at the Panama Canal.

The arrest of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Montalvo and Gonzales-Ortiz came only days after three men pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking high-powered rifles and other guns to Mexico from Arizona under the botched "Fast and Furious" federal sting operation.

Republicans have criticized President Barack Obama's administration for allowing the Fast and Furious program - under which a government agency permitted thousands of weapons to be smuggled across the border in order to try to nab the criminals in a sting operation.

The failed operation embarrassed the administration and led to some calls for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.

But more importantly, the Obama administration Operation Fast & Furious has put thousands of guns in the hands of those who randomly kill people on both sides of our Southern border. Those responsible for the slaughter of thousands of Mexicans yearly, and the death of one of our own Agents can thank the Obama administration for the weapons they use to do so.

The Obama administration has made the U.S. government an accessory to murder because it helped fuel violence and killing Mexican violence by allowing "straw" purchasers to buy approximately 2,000 assault-type weapons - which were actually walked into Mexico.

This is a crime that goes to the highest level of our government. And no, no one has answered for that crime as of yet.

THIRD SHOT!

Herman Cain says Rep. Alen West "An Excellent Choice" for Vice President

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain thinks Representative Allen West, R-Florida, would make "an excellent choice" for Vice President.

Herman Cain’s endorsement follows similar suggestions last week by Sarah Palin and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

Cain, appearing on The Steve Gill Show, was asked by the Nashville radio host who he would suggest for Vice President, should front-runner Mitt Romney ask?  Cain answered without hesitation, "Allen West out of Florida."

"He is well-spoken, he is direct, people in Florida love him, he has a huge following," Cain said. "He is from Florida. Florida is going to be one of those key states. But more importantly Colonel Allen West is a dedicated Patriot. He served in the military and he is willing to serve his country some more."

Cain went on to say, "I know that there might be some pushback on his part because he's just in his first term as a United States Congressman, but my advice to him, if he were to ask me, is you served your country well and now you have a higher calling - and I would strongly recommend that he consider it depending upon any personal consideration he might have."

Cain added, "I think he would be an excellent choice."

Following suggestions by Haley and Palin that he would be good for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket, West told CNN that he was humbled and would almost certainly "step up to the plate" if asked.

West said, if asked, he would have to discuss the matter with his family but noted his family has a long tradition of service. West’s father served in World War II. West spent 22 years in the Army before retiring as a lieutenant colonel, including tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and he currently has a nephew in the Army.

Asked whether he would be able to work with Mitt Romney? Rep. West told CNN, he was confident they could work out any differences.

"We would be able to come together as a team and turn this ship of state around for the United States of America," he said.

Representative Allen West has my support for Vice President. He is a man who speaks his mind intelligently, and not like Joe Biden who can't seem keep his foot out of his mouth.

FOURTH SHOT!

Oklahoma Governor says Democrats View U.S. Energy as Hazardous Waste

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin issued a scathing indictment of President Barack Obama's energy policies in the Republican Party’s weekly radio address over the weekend. Those policies, not a lack of domestic energy supply, are causing the surge in gasoline prices, she said.

"Our [Republican] pro-energy policies stand in stark contrast to the policies supported by President Obama and the Washington Democrats, who seem to view American-made energy as a hazardous waste rather than a resource" Governor Fallin said.

The real issue is a lack of leadership from the president, as illustrated by his delay in allowing completion of the Keystone XL Oil Pipeline. Meanwhile gas prices average $3.93 in some states while others like here in California pays well over $4.20 a gallon on the average.

“Millions of Americans remain out of work, but President Obama continues to propose job-killing tax hikes and obstruct the basic energy infrastructure projects that would lead to the creation of thousands of new jobs, not to mention more revenue in state budgets," Governor Fallin said.

“We recognize that the energy industry is a valuable ally as we seek to create jobs and stimulate the economy, and that's why Oklahoma Republicans continue to support the production of all kinds of energy resources."

What she is saying goes to the heart of the difference between Liberal and Conservative conservators of our nation. Liberals see no hope for the future and an Energy Industry that is a plague upon the earth. Conservatives see endless opportunity and the resources that we can harness and use while we look for other solutions the problems.

Liberals point out problems but never have solutions. Conservatives address problems by coming up with solutions, then wait for the Liberals to say that it won't work and that we're evil.

FIFTH SHOT!

Italian Councilwoman says European Political System Ignores the People

Since Americans on the Left, Liberals and Democrats, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Obama Administration, and are always trying to compare America with Europe, here's an article for you.

Since you always want to point out how America should be more like Europe, read on - and educate yourself to reality in Europe.

The economic crisis in Europe has been spurred by a self-serving political system that rewards itself and its friends while ignoring the people, says Italian politician Lillia D'Ottavi in an exclusive interview to Newsmax.com.

Lillia D'Ottavi is a pharmacist, business owner, and member of the Regional Council of Lazio, Italy. She says that the solution to the economic crisis in Europe goes beyond the massive rescue fund set up to handle the debt run up by countries on the Euro.

She said, money distributed from the rescue fund "are not real loans. They are really grants that actually we know will never be repaid."

"We are starting to do this reform by cutting down the costs of the political system, including the number of Congressmen and Senators and the privileges that they are accustomed to," she said when asked what the solution would be.

"So we're cutting down their salaries and the whole setup of politics itself. The next thing we're going to work on is bureaucracy within the government.

I’ve been doing politics for many, many years and I believe that even though it's very different from the United States, to a certain extent, like you, one of the problems is the political system. The way the parties are actually creating programs that cost Billions and they are only to serve certain special interests while the real politics - you know the one with a capital ‘P’ - the word people - is not actually being served too much.

I think that the first thing we have to do is to follow the rules. In America, that would be Constitutional rules."

Wait a minute! Are you Liberals listening? Lillia D'Ottavi, a European politicians, recognizes that the Constitution is not just an outdated piece of paper and that it has rules that need to be followed. Imagine the disbelief this will cause at Starbucks when Communist radical Bill Ayers goes to get his Capitalist coffee.

Lillia D'Ottavi  has been active in Italian politics since the late 1970s. She has also travelled extensively in the United States and was recently in Florida to explore the possibility of a "sister province" project between her province, Latina, and Palm Beach County. She notes there are a lot of similarities between the people of the United States and the people of Italy.

"I feel very, very close to the people, the middle class, the people that work, the people that pay taxes and in this sense both the people of the United States and in Italy, they face the same desires, they have the same desires: security both on the job and in their families, and a certainty, a stability in the government that’s supposed to represent them," she said.

Like the United States, Italy has an illegal immigration problem.

"I live the problem of illegal immigration very closely," she said. "Italy, it's a relatively new country as such and especially in the First World War, we had to fight with blood for every inch of our territory. And now it’s just being taken over and not only but because of its position. It’s the gate from where most of the North African and Arab illegal immigration is coming through. It’s hurting directly and very closely a great majority of the Italian people. We are very friendly. We love to have people but we want respect of our laws.”

She said that Italy, a country about the same size as Florida, must face up to the problem because in 2030 as many as 30 million illegal immigrants are going to be in the country in a population of about 60 million.

"One of the reasons it is so large is also because a lot of them receive work," she said. "They work, of course illegal only, but they do work. They’ve been given shelters and many times even the government itself gives them - free education, free health, and a lot of services that actually they are denied to Italians and retirees.

So what we have to do is first of all respect the laws that already are there. If somebody is illegal, he should not work, he should not get all the things that they are getting. If we just stick up for these simple things, then our Christian values and our Christian principles are going to lead us to the right solution.”

On other issues, Lillia D'Ottavi said:

— The way to combat Islamic fundamentalism is to "use security measures, you know, like we use against any other criminals."

— That Italians favor sanctions against Iran, adding, "We have to support Israel because Israel is not only one of the greatest allies of the United States but also one of the greatest friends of Italy, especially because of our Judeo-Christian traditions."

— That there are "two different faces of the Obama administration. In internal affairs within the United States, the Obama administration has taken an extreme leftist position in all kind of social issues. In foreign affairs, they have been trying to be very diplomatic and middle of the road without swinging too much one way or the other."

She is both wise and intelligent. Too bad our politicians can't learn from her.

SIXTH SHOT!

Texas Bosses Gripe About Lack of Skilled Workers

OK, here we go!

Employers and Workforce experts told Texas lawmakers this week that businesses are having difficulty filling thousands of vacant positions across the state because of a shortage of skilled workers, according to the Austin American Statesman.

"Our state leaders are fond of the expression 'Texas is wide open for business,' but I fear there's an increasing risk that the help-wanted signs may go unanswered for many employers," said Joe Arnold, workforce chairman for the Texas Association of Manufacturers.

The State of Texas Senate Committee on Business and Commerce heard from witnesses who provided national statistics and anecdotal information about workforce conditions in Texas.

Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken cited studies saying skilled workers are scarce nationwide and that four out of five employers surveyed report a moderate or severe shortage of production workers. "I hear these same concerns echoed by employers in Texas," Pauken said.

Jane Hanna, president of the Construction Education Foundation, said despite a healthy migration of people into Texas, skilled workers aren’t always among them. Noting that the average age of a skilled craftsman is 49 years of age, she said, "We’re not seeing this migration of skilled workers moving across the country."

"This is a critical, critical impasse we are reaching," Hanna added.

Other committee witnesses blamed the suspected shortage of skilled workers on everything from the recession to drugs, aging baby boomers, and a state education policy that has a bias toward four-year college degrees and doesn’t meet the real needs of today’s employers.

And there's the problem, it's the same old story about college educated type people who simply don't understand the need for vocational training. They have no idea how anything is made or even where milk comes from.

If they are working in state government in among the policy makers than no doubt that they went to a four-year or more college, and they usually have a bias against blue collar workers who they see as uneducated and low class. They do not know how to address the problem because they can't understand the problem.

They simply can't compute the idea that America is lacking in skilled vocational workers, tradesmen, journeymen, who build everything we use.

SEVENTH SHOT!

US Debt Exceeds Euro Zone, UK Combined

In the last few days, it was reported the U.S. government debt now exceeds the combined debt of all of the countries in the crisis-riddled Eurozone - plus Great Britain. Great Britain is not part of the Eurozone but is part of the European Union.

The United States debt at the end of 2011 was at $15.1 trillion, while European debt was at $12.7 trillion according to a chart released by the Senate Budget Committee.

The Eurozone is made up of 17 countries, including France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, and other smaller nations that, among other things, use the euro as their currency. Many of the countries, such as Greece, have recently faced a severe economic crisis brought on by heavy governmental debt that required financial bailouts.

On a small scale version, you and I know how it is if we have more bills than we have money. We know something has to be cut. If not, than we will face financial problems and go into default on our loan obligations and so on.

Most of us understand that hard choices need to be made in those times. Many times those choices are very unpopular and it will not get you "The Greatest Person Award" any time soon. But the consequences are worse! And that is what people need to understand.

At our house, we had to cut our DirectTV package, cut down on frivolous trips to town which meant saving money on gas, less eating out and more eating at home, going to see a movie stopped for awhile, new clothes or shoes or boots, all had to take a back seat to things that we needed to get done that were a heck of a lot more important.

The transmission in my Chevy Tahoe when out and the engine needed work. This is a big priority right now. We looked at buying a new car but found the prices absolutely insane.

So for the last month or so, we've worked on figuring how to get it fixed and we did it without us overspending to do it. All of you who are reading this understand this sort of priority. You and I know real well what it means to go without - just so we can make ends meet.

I think the basic problem with President Obama and both sides of Congress is that most of those Jerkweeds are Millionaires who have no idea how it is to go without to make ends meet. We need more Housewives in Congress. We need more Dads who are paying Child Support and working two jobs to keep a roof over his new family, we need someone who has had to look at his or her son or daughter and knows what it is to say - we just don't have the money to help you buy a new car - nevertheless help you go to College.

Maybe when the rich folks who are running this country finally can get their heads out of their asses and finally look around and see that there are priorities and then then aren't - then we might have a chance to fix things.

We don't need to cut Social Security or Medicare, but we can't keep them around if we spend Trillions of dollars that Obama Care will cost Americans.

We can't afford to feed orphan children in the Sudan or Kenya or Haiti, research the life of a beetle in the Amazon Rain Forrest, build nests for eagles, build bridges to nowhere, or spend Billions of dollars in lawsuits which government creates to right some supposed injustice.

Politicians should learn that not every injustice in the world, whether its natural or man-made can be solved by throwing more money at it. Especially when we don't have the money to throw because we have spent the incomes of our grandchildren on things that made a lot of political points - but made no sense.

Secret Service Agents covering President Obama sent home from Colombia for Misconduct, Prostitution Involved

Hot off the wire, April 14, 2012, at least a dozen U.S. Secret Service Agents who were assigned to protect the President were sent home from Colombia for misconduct - and there may have been prostitution involved.

It is hard to believe that a dozen Secret Service Agents covering President Obama in Colombia, there  for a leaders summit, could have actually been sent back to the United States because of allegations involving prostitution - but Fox News confirmed this story through a senior law enforcement official.

The source says that the situation got serious enough that diplomats were brought in to mediate and the Secret Service Agents were expelled from the country of Colombia. After which a whole new crew of Secret Service Agents were rushed to Colombia to cover President Obama, but officials are saying that President Obama was not in any danger at any time.

So I can't help but ask, if Obama's Secret Service detail was "expelled" and sent home - who was doing security for the President of the United States?

Of those sent home, it was not immediately clear if all of the agents were involved in prostitution or just associated with incidents surrounding it.

And wait, that's not all, word is now coming out that Secret Service Agents have supposedly gotten in big trouble on Presidential trips in the past - but just not so many at one time. That's right, just not so many at one time. Imagine that!

Now I don't know if it's just more Washington spin to make something look better than it appears or if it's really the truth, but according to a Secret Service spokesman, "The behavior in question happened prior to the president’s arrival Friday for the Summit of the Americas."

According to the report, the Secret Service did not specify the misconduct or the exact number of people involved - but they did confirm there were "allegations" and that they were sent home.

To me, I would think there must be more than "allegations" if diplomats were brought in to mediate and the Secret Service Agents were immediately "expelled" from their country.

"The Secret Service takes all allegations of misconduct seriously. This entire matter has been turned over to our Office of Professional Responsibility, which serves as the agency's internal affairs component," agency spokesman Edwin Donovan said.

The alleged misconduct is an embarrassing headline as Obama kicks off meeting with 33 Western hemisphere leaders where issues of trade and economy are intended to be the focus.

On a foreign trip of this size, there’s a sizable fleet of Agents sent in to cover all aspects of the president’s trip and security – from driving official vehicles, to scouting locations over multiple shifts and several days. This "advance party" of Agents typically arrives several days ahead of the president’s arrival.

Prostitution is legal in Colombia in the so-called "tolerance zones."

But since Obama is slated to be in Colombia through Sunday and will attend several working sessions and meetings with other leaders, one can't help but wonder if the new detail of Secret Service Agents will have time to take in the local color - so to speak.

$1.25 Billion of Tax Money to Black Farmers - And Only Black Farmers!

According to the e-mail that I just received, this is sort of an old story - but it sort of slipped under the radar when it first took place. So have a seat and find out how far Reverse Discrimination can go!

Called the:
Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation Settlement

Formally known as the Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation Settlement, (case number, 08-mc-0511 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia), it is also known as "the Black Farmers case" or "Pigford II".

This settlement was the Obama Administration's idea to give $1.2 Billion of Taxpayer money to Black Farmers - and only Black Farmers.

The Department of Agriculture has everything to do with this. Through the Department of Agriculture, President Obama's administration authorized $1.25 Billion of our tax money to go to black farmers as payback for past discrimination from 1981 to 1996.

Yes, this has nothing to do with the Civil War years or even Slavery.

It's all about Affirmative Action. The Agriculture Department said that this was necessary in "addressing an unfortunate chapter in USDA's civil rights history."

On October, 27, 2011, Judge Paul L. Friedman of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia granted final approval of the Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation Settlement that he had preliminarily approved in May 2011.

"This agreement will provide overdue relief and justice to African American farmers, and bring us closer to the ideals of freedom and equality that this country was founded on," Obama said in a statement at the time.

The Court Order provides that the Claim Submission Period will begin on November 14, 2011 and end on May 11, 2012.

The history behind this goes back to 1997 when it was originally called the Pigford Case. And no, I don't know if or when the National Black Farmers Association got involved in this.

In 1997 and 1998, two class-action lawsuits entitled Pigford v. Glickman ("Pigford") and Brewington v. Glickman ("Brewington"), respectively, were filed on behalf of groups of African-American farmers.

Those lawsuits asserted that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, "USDA", had systematically discriminated against African-American farmers on the basis of race, in violation of the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.

After the Pigford and Brewington cases were consolidated, they were settled by the parties in 1999 and became The Largest Civil Rights Settlement In History.

The terms of the settlement were outlined in a Consent Decree entered by the Court on April 14, 1999, which stated that eligible claimants were required to file their claims with the case administrator by October 12, 1999.

The Consent Decree also stated that claimants who could show "extraordinary circumstances" for missing the October 12, 1999 deadline could file at a later date. At that time, September 15, 2000 was set as the "late-filing" deadline.

While approximately 22,700 claimants filed claims before the October 12, 1999 claims deadline, approximately 61,000 additional individuals requested permission to file claims after the October 12, 1999 claims deadline - but before the September 15, 2000 "late-filing" cut-off date.

Fewer than 3,000 of the 61,000 "late-filers" were found to have demonstrated the required "extraordinary circumstances" for receiving extra time to file their claims.

As a result, more than 58,000 "late-filers" did not have their discrimination claims heard. In addition, thousands of additional potential claimants filed late-filing petitions after the September 15, 2000 late-filing cut-off, but before June 18, 2008, the date of final enactment of the 2008 Farm Bill.

So where does the 2008 Farm Bill come in to play here?

Well, if you remember, Democrats controlled Congress in 2008 and on June 18, 2008, they passed and President Bush signed, a law providing claimants with a right to pursue their discrimination claims if they had petitioned to participate in Pigford, but did not have their petitions considered because they were filed late.

This law was passed as Section 14012 of the Farm, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, also known as the 2008 Farm Bill. It was conveniently tucked away in Section 14012 of the Bill.

The Farm Bill did not "re-open" the Pigford case. Instead, the Democrats in Congress provided a new right for Black Farmers to sue the Federal Government.

Although the 2008 Farm Bill created a cause of action for thousands of Black Farmers, the total amount of funding provided in that bill for valid claims was set at $100 Million.

But then again, $100 Million is not enough for some folks!

Enter the February 18, 2010 Obama Administration Settlement Agreement, where the Obama administration believed that $100 Million would certainly not be enough to pay out for all the claims - they decided to raise it.

After all, it isn't their money is it?

On February 18, 2010, attorneys for tens of thousands of Black Farmers and attorneys for USDA entered into a Settlement Agreement that would require Congress to fund an additional $1.15 Billion over and above the $100 Million for successful claimants - which brought the total funding for valid claims to an amazing $1.25 Billion of Taxpayer dollars.

On December 8, 2010, President Barack Hussein Obama signed into law the Claims Resolution Act of 2010, which provided $1.15 Billion to be added to the $100 Million already provided in the 2008 Farm Bill so that all claims from Black Farmers can be funded under the February 18, 2010 Settlement Agreement.

The Claims Resolution Act of 2010 also prescribed several new terms for incorporation into the Settlement Agreement.

So what's the current status of the Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation Settlement?

Well, the Settlement approved by Judge Friedman on October 27, 2011 resolves that all of the claims asserted in the 23 lawsuits that were consolidated into the single case called In re Black Farmers Discrimination Litigation, 08-mc-0511 (D.D.C.).

Judge Friedman’s October 27, 2011 Order approving the Settlement provides that the 180-day period for submitting claims under the Settlement runs from November 14, 2011 to May 11, 2012. Claims that are postmarked after May 11, 2012 will not qualify for an award.

The judge who approved this allowed for Reverse Discrimination by way of giving the Taxpayer money to people of only one ethnic background.

This is supposed to be a redress of wrongs done to Black Farmers. But how about the wrongs done to Asian, or Hispanic, or Italian, or Irish, or Portuguese Farmers? How about your average White American farmer who was wronged in the same way? Why is this group pulled out from the rest of the population to be used as the model of injustice?

Can anyone tell me that a Settlement based on race and color of skin is not wrong on the face of it, especially when there has been many ethnic groups who have been wronged in one way or another over time in the same way?

This Settlement stems from a lawsuit called Pigford v. Glickman (“Pigford”) was settled in 1999. The lawsuit involved claims by African American farmers that the USDA had discriminated against them between 1981 and 1996 based on race, wrongfully denying them farm loans, loan servicing, and other benefits, or giving them loans with unfair terms.

The basic premise is that no other race, white, yellow, or brown, were ever denied farm loans, loan services and other benefits, or given loans with unfair terms from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

If anyone believes that, than they are obviously living in somewhere other than the real world. Many people who are not Black have experienced those same problems. But no, they are not on the list to receive some sort of compensation - only Black Farmers are.

Something like this does nothing but act as more divisiveness among Americans.

Remember Judge Friedman’s October 27, 2011 Order approving the Settlement provides that the 180-day period for submitting claims under the Settlement runs from November 14, 2011 to May 11, 2012.

So if you are a Black Farmer and want to submit a claim, remember that claims postmarked after May 11, 2012 will not qualify for an award  - and because the popular myth is that black folks are the only ones in the world who have ever experienced discrimination or problems with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, White, Asian, Native American, and Hispanic farmers need not apply!

Unless of course it happens and yes other ethnic groups do apply, and when they are turned down - then they too can maybe claim some sort of discrimination just like the Black Farmers did!

Why Is George Zimmerman In Hiding?

Fugitive Slave Hunt

It was night and the free man knew, that though he is free, some still hunt him.

The wind turned inland and a storm approached, there were those who wanted him back in chains, there were those who wanted him dead, some wanted him lynched.

He stood in the shadows and watched as one by one of those filled with hate stepped forward to whip the mob into frenzy for blood. Each called for his capture, each called for his blood, each called for their idea of justice.

Due process was not a witness to the event. And yes, a bounty was placed on his head.

The man had killed another man while fearing for his life, now that event has triggered crowds to form as hate took charge. And yes, it was all because of the color of his skin.

Fearing for their safety, he left his family. He was alone, homeless, hungry, no hope on the horizon. He went into hiding to avoid being captured by the mob. He was a runaway with a price on his head, and he feared what would happen if he were taken.

Would they return him to where he came from, or would they sell him to those who said they'd pay a bounty if he was brought to them. Unlike many runaways, there was no direction for him to find refuge.

Though all of this sounds like a fugitive slave trying to evade an angry mob, those who have a vested interest in returning the runaway to the chains that they believe he deserves, those who have made a living attacking others based on their color, it isn't about a fugitive slave.

No, George Zimmerman is not a runaway negro slave. But right now, their experiences are ironically similar. He has become a hunted man. Tormented by those who want to see an innocent man behind bars or dead.

Whether people want to admit it or not, it's true, fact is that ever since the attack, Zimmerman has become a hunted and tormented man who has now had to go into hiding afraid for his life.

Picture found on a Website
calling for his death
Zimmerman is going through many of the same things that a runaway went through. The worry, the fear, the depression, the loss of family, the loss of work, friends and even church. And of course, their is the real possibility of a lynching by those wanting an eye for an eye.

I find it ironic that those who want his blood are now no different than the fugitive slave hunters who sought runaway slaves, and yes, believe it or not, there is really a bounty on Zimmerman's head no different than the runaway slaves prior to 1865.

The only difference that I can see is that in the Zimmerman case the modern lynch mob seems to be mostly angry black people headed by black civil rights leaders and black politicians.

And of course, there seems to be the rub. Zimmerman has value to those who want him caught and put in chains, no different than the slave-owners of years ago.

One can argue as to whether Zimmerman has a monetary value to those feeling wronged, but one thing that can't be argued is that Zimmerman definitely has value to the Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson and the Reverend Wright types out there that make a living inciting violence and keeping America racially divided.

And make no mistake, black politicians have the same vested interest in this case for all the same reasons. They've certainly been on television spouting off about what they want to see take place, even if it's not within the law.

I guess it's hard to be a so-called "Civil Rights Leader", or a crusading black politician hard at work in the Congressional Black Caucus, when the very people you represent have actually achieved the same, complete, unequivocal civil rights as other citizens have.

Those who stir the pot need the storm. They need the discontent. They survive on the lack of harmony between races. They set black against white with rhetoric that inflames the senses. They push the envelope of breaking the law and inciting murder. Then they step back, throw their hands up, and say they do no such thing!

Of course, America is made up of more than Black-African and White-European descendants. Today, America's Asian, Middle Eastern, and Hispanic populations are growing fast. The Hispanic population is growing the fastest.

But still, so-called civil rights leaders do not represent the civil rights of all Americans, the so-called civil rights leaders like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson exclusively represent blacks in our country. Accoding to them, only black people can suffer injustice - don't you know!

And yes, I really believe that black politicians are in the same class as civil rights leaders. They survive by pandering to black Americans. And really, they are no different than the NAACP who only sides with blacks who are Democrats - and the likes of the National Organization of Women who only comes to the defense of women who are Liberals.

A perfect example of this is the recent attack of  a 78 year old white man at the hands of a group of black teenagers.

Even though it is a Hate Crime, it is not being processed as a Hate Crime because the beating was administered by black teenagers no different than Trayvon Martin on a frail 78 year old white man.

So why isn’t the attack of a 78 year old white man by black teenagers a Hate Crime? Whenever a white or Hispanic person commits a crime against a black person, it’s instantly labeled as a Hate Crime and the black community goes into mob mode.

But what happens when a black person commits a crime against a white person? You rarely ever hear any suggest it was a hate crime. Such is the case of a 78 year old man in East Toledo, Ohio.

According to News reports, Dallas Watts, is a thin frail looking 78 year old white man. He was walking home from a nearby convenience store one afternoon when he was confronted by six black teenagers.

Watts heard one youth tell the others to take him down at which time they began to beat him.  When he went to the ground, the black teens hit and kicked Watts before finally stealing the items he had just bought at the store.  During the attack, Watts heard one of the black teenagers say that the attack "was for Trayvon"and then say "to kill the white man."

As for Dallas Watts, it was reported that he intends to buy a gun and apply for a conceal carry permit to carry it with him whenever he leaves his house.  He also said that the incident has completely changed his outlook on humanity.

Because the attack on Dallas Watts involved race, why isn't this considered a Hate Crime? It's because Dallas Watts is white and there is no one out there looking after a white man's civil rights. As screwed up as it is, some people truly believe that no one needs to worry about a white person's civil rights.

And certainly Black politicians, and so-called civil rights leaders have shown that they don't care about white people like Dallas Watts. As I see it, that includes Obama who hasn't come out and said a word about how wrong it is to beat the crap out of a 78 year old man or any color, race, or religion - instead, he has demonstrated that he only cares about what his Attorney General called "his people".

Their decision to exclusively represent only the black community comes with problems. First, Black-Americans are not as dumb as the Al Sharpton and Reverend Wright types think they are. I really believe that most black people see past their con artist ways and know when they are being used.

Today, blacks account for just less than 13% of the population. Here in California, blacks account for about 7% of the population. Subsequently, they are no less important to America than any other race that is here.

Second, times are changing. I don't think Black-Americans want to be seen in the way that those so-called black leaders are portraying them. Blacks are not the poor, needy, uneducated, unsophisticated people that people like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson like to portray them as.

The vast majority of black people are hard working folks who shake their heads at the way some blacks conduct themselves. They are no different than anyone else in respect to having some bad apples in the bunch. I really believe, after talking with black friends in the past, that most black people see pass the games that those phony civil rights leaders are playing.

Most black folks who I have known understand who the real Martin Luther King Jr was - and they know real well that the Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Reverend Wright types out there have nothing in common with the ideals and vision of Martin Luther King Jr.. King wanted unity and equality, not what is happening in the News today. Sure not the stuff that Sharpton and Jackson are trying to get going.

One would think that a black civil rights leader may struggle to find work. But not to worry, folks like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton, and Liberal Politicians in general, always seem to keep busy by staying in the News - and cases like the Zimmerman case are just what they hope for.

It gives them a chance to do what they do best - just throw gas on the fire.

With an incident like the Zimmerman case, black civil rights leaders and politicians have again gotten a chance to step in front of the cameras and sit down on News broadcasts. All to suggest or assume the existence of so-called facts, or so-called truth of something as a basis for reasoning, discussion, or their "belief" - when in fact none of what they are saying may be true at all.

It's called postulate, and Politicians and Activists of all sorts do it well.

Recently the Congressional Black Caucus, in a lame attempt "to honor Trayvon Martin," the very man that police agree had in fact attacked George Zimmerman, has actually called for the State of Florida to repeal their self-defense "Stand Your Ground" law.

In the Congressional Black Caucus' resolution, they urge other state legislatures considering a sort of "Stand Your Ground" legislation to "reject such proposals."

They also condemn, "all relevant parties for their roles in proposing 'Stand Your Ground' legislation and similar legislation that compromises public safety and the integrity of the prosecutorial system."

Of course, one member of the Congressional Black Caucus is Rep. Frederica Wilson, Democrat from Miami. She offered up the resolution. But wait, before entering Congress, she was actually among the members of the Florida Senate who approved the 2005 "Stand Your Ground" law in Florida by a 39-0 vote.

Can you say hypocrite? Well, it's no surprise that she now says that she regrets her vote that helped to establish that Florida law.

But then again, the News Media has also had a big part in making Trayvon Martin the victim. They have tried to say that the picture below was a "recent" picture of Trayvon Martin when it wasn't. They, along with many in the black community, have tried to paint Zimmerman as some sort of hunter that stalked Martin until he killed him.

According to the police, this was not the case.

The News Media, black civil rights activist, black politicians, all conviently leave out the fact that Trayvon Martin attacked George Zimmerman, and not the other way around. Zimmerman was just keeping his eye on a suspicious person in his area of responsibility while preforming his duties as security in a neighborhood watch program.

As I've said, ever since the attack, even though Zimmerman did the right thing while protecting his life - he has now become a hunted and tormented man who has now had to go into hiding afraid for his life.

This is Trayvon Martin at age 13
The pictures below were not released to the public. No one in the media wanted pictures of Trayvon Martin four years older and all inked up with all sorts of fight club types of tattoos. They didn't want to sway the public's perception that Trayvon Martin was really just a sweet loving boy.

Trayvon Martin at age 17
Not exactly what the Media is trying to portray -
fight tattoos and all

In the meanwhile, as it was just reported, that Americans are divided along racial lines on the Zimmerman case. Blacks overwhelmingly call it unjustified and want him tried. Whites on the other hand are more apt to either withhold judgment or see Zimmerman's actions during when Martin attacked him as justified.

But either way, this doesn't help the man who fears for his life and has loss everything because one dark night he chose to defend himself and use deadly force when he thought he was in mortal danger by an attacker. He did the right thing to stay alive.

He did the right thing when he needed to. His actions were that of a brave man. Brave in the respect that he did what he needed to do to stay alive.

Even a pacifist like Gandhi believed, "I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence."

If he had died after having his head bashed into the pavement, none of this conversation would be taking place. No one would care. It would only be just another random killing.

What makes this different is that a man fought back against an attacker. Teenager, big deal, it just doesn't matter in a world where teenagers kill with the same fervor as adults.

What makes this different is that the man who fought for his life and won to see another day - is now being put through a living Hell - and that, that just ain't right at all.

So why is George Zimmerman in hiding?

It's because the system caters to some, while dismissing others who followed the law and do the right thing. And that, that's the shame of an imperfect world where people bow to political pressure instead of taking the high road and do - as Zimmerman did - that which is right.

Smith & Wesson - A Tough Success Story - Part 3

As promised, in this article, I want to go into Smith & Wesson's contribution to the semi-automatic pistol and tactical rifle market.

The first center fire S&W semi-automatic pistol began in 1913.

The result was the Smith & Wesson Model 1913. It was also known as the Model 35 and was produced from 1913 to 1922.

Approximately 8,350 were built and this gun was chambered in the .35 S&W Auto cartridge.

It featured smooth wooden grip panels, a fully grooved slide with cross-bolt lock stud, and an ambidextrous safety that was operated with the middle finger of the shooting hand. grip safety was operated by pressing it to the rear.

Supposedly, the US Army was looking for a pistol to replace my beloved M1911A1 semi-automatic pistol as early as 1948.

To obtain a bid from the US Government, Smith & Wesson began working on a design similar to the German Walther P-38.  The development of the model 39 began in 1949, and first production pistols saw the market in 1953.

The S&W Model 39 pistol was the first product Double Action pistol made in USA. It was first U.S. designed double action pistol in the 9 mm Luger or Parabellum round.

The Model 39 would come to be known as a first generation pistol. Since the Model 39 first debuted, Smith & Wesson has continuously developed this design into its third generation pistols now on the market.

Produced from 1970 to 1988, Smith & Wesson put out its Model 59. This was essentially a high-capacity double-action Model 39 pistol again in 9 mm Parabellum. Its first of the high-capacity guns to hit the market. It used a double-column magazine.

Supposedly, according to two sources, the Model 59 was designed for the U.S. Navy as a large-capacity version of the S&W Model 39.  It was the basis of their Mark 22 "Hush Puppy" silenced pistol.

The story goes that in 1965, the U.S. Navy sought out Smith & Wesson and requested a version of the S&W Model 39 that could take the 13-round magazine of the FN Browning HP35.

S&W Model 59
The FN Browning HP35, first designed in 1935, was the first military pistol to have high capacity, staggered column magazine for 13 rounds plus one loaded in the chamber.

Because of it's reputation for tough reliability, for many years it was one of the standard weapons of the CIA. They used the FN-Browning HP-35.

The result of the Navy's request came in early 1970, when a dozen experimental all-stainless-steel prototypes were made and were issued to Navy SEAL commandos for evaluation in the field.

Though the Model 59 was not adopted for the Navy, it went on the civilian market in late 1970 with great success.

The Model 59 was manufactured in 9mm Parabellum caliber with a wider anodized aluminum frame (to accommodate a double-stack magazine), a straight backstrap, a magazine disconnect (the pistol will not fire unless a magazine is in place), and a blued carbon steel slide that carries the manual safety.

The grip is three pieces made of two nylon plastic panels joined by a metal backstrap. It uses a magazine release located to the rear of the trigger guard similar to the M1911A1.

The Model 59 went out of production when the improved second generation series was introduced as the Model 459. Smith & Wesson Model 459 was Smith &Wesson's entry into the US Army's XM9 program.

The S&W Model 459 was an updated version of the Model 59 with adjustable sights and checkered nylon grips. This model was discontinued in 1988. About 800 of these pistols were manufactured with special grips made to FBI specifications.

One interesting Smith & Wesson semi-auto was the Model 61 which came out in 1970.  It was a pocket pistol called an "Escort".  It was a tiny .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. It was designed to be cheap and easily concealable. It was available in blued or nickel-plated with black or white plastic grips.

Production stopped just 3 years later in 1973. Most of their semi-auto pistols used the Model 39 and Model 59 design and were have been out of production for many years.

The third generation of Smith & Wesson semi-autos was introduced in 1990 by four digit numbered models.

The Smith and Wesson Model 1006 is a recoil operated double-action semi-automatic handgun chambered in the powerful 10 mm auto cartridge. It is constructed entirely of stainless steel, has a 5 inch barrel, and a 9 round single column magazine.

Its safety is a slide mounted de-cock/safety, internal safeties are a magazine disconnect and firing pin block. This is when Smith & Wesson introduced ambidextrous safety / de-cocker levers and double action only and de-cocker only models.

Smith & Wesson also introduced a .40 S&W, 10mm auto and a .45ACP. These weapons also included the new Novak lo-carry three dot combat sights, and the three-piece grips were replaced by polymer one piece wrap-around grips.

The Model 1006 is generally considered reliable and accurate.

The 10mm semi-auto, built on large .45ACP frames, was adopted by FBI and a few Police Departments, but it didn't really do very well in the civilian market and was discontinued from production in mid-1990s.

The .40SW caliber line, on the other hand, was built on the 9mm frames, and is still in production today.

Later, S&W improved the third generation with introduction of TSW (Tactical Smith & Wesson) modifications, that featured accessory rail, mounted under the frame, ahead of the trigger guard.

Here comes the Sigma!

Smith & Wesson introduced the Sigma series of recoil-operated, locked-breech semi-auto pistols in 1994 with the Sigma SW40F in 40 mm, followed by the Sigma SW9F in 9 mm, which included a 17 shot magazine.

Glock initiated a patent infringement lawsuit against Smith & Wesson. Smith & Wesson paid an undisclosed amount to settle the case and for the right to continue producing models in the Sigma line.

Technically, Sigma pistols are recoil operated, locked breech semi-auto pistols, built on modified Browning-style linkless locking principle.

All Sigmas feature Glock-type single action-type trigger with automatic half-cock and manual striker cocking during trigger pull. Sigma pistols had no external manual safeties. The gun frame is manufactured from polymer, while the slide and barrel use either stainless steel or carbon steel in so called "Value" models.

In 1996, Smith & Wesson updated the Sigma by adding a compact model by shortening the barrel (from 4½ to 4 inches).

In 1999, Smith & Wesson improved the Sigma series. The main change was shortening the barrel and the slide by half an inch. Other improvements included more comfortable grip checkering, slightly enlarged ejection port and addition of the accessory rail at the front of the frame under the barrel.

The Sigma can be had in the Model SW9 in 9 mm Luger Parabellum, the Model SW40 in .40 S&W, the Model SW357V in .357 SIG, and the Model SW380 in .380 ACP.

As for the SW99 Series, S&W reached an agreement with Walther to produce variations of the P99 line of pistols. They branded it as the SW99, the pistol is available in several calibers, including 9 mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP, and in both full size and compact variations.

Under the terms of the agreement, Walther produced the frames, and Smith and Wesson produced the slide and barrel. The pistol has several cosmetic differences from the original Walther design and strongly resembles a sort of hybrid between the P99 and the Sigma series.

When I fired a friend's Sigma, I was honestly impressed by the shooter. I shot his .40 S&W and found it's action smooth.

The M&P Pistol Series

The "Military and Police" pistol is Smith & Wesson's latest offering. The "Military & Police" name was the trade mark of S&W for some 80 or so years, being permanently linked to the most successful double action revolver of the company - the S&W Model 10.

The jury is still out as to whether or not the new M&P will have the success that the original did.

The M&P Series first appeared on the scene in the summer of 2005. It was actually intended for police and military sales, but also became offered for civilian markets.

The M&P Series debuted a new polymer-frame pistol intended for the law enforcement market. The M&P is a completely new design with no parts interchangeable with any other pistol including the Sigma.

The new design not only looks completely different than the Sigma but feels completely different with 3 different back straps supplied with each M&P. Many of the ergonomic study elements that had been incorporated into the Sigma and the SW99 were brought over to the M&P.

The improved trigger weight and feel, and unique take-down method not requiring a dry pull of the trigger were meant to set the M&P apart from both the Sigma and the popular Glock pistols.

The M&P is available in 9×19 mm Para, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG. A .45 ACP model was released in early 2007, after making its debut at the SHOT Show. In addition, compact versions are available in 9×19 mm Para, .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and .45 ACP.

And yes, the M&P series feels great in hand! It has a real nice balance and it designed to resist dirt and grim. It is a real nice pistol!

The Smith & Wesson SD9

The Self Defense / SD Series of pistols is one of the new product lines from Smith & Wesson that was introduced in 2010.

These pistols are specially designed as affordable, yet effective and reliable weapons for civilian users and security use. Smith & Wesson SD9 and SD40 Self Defense pistols are based on the already proven design of the Smith & Wesson Military & Police / M&P pistols, with certain cost-saving measures which, however, do not affect the practical utility of new pistols.

Smith & Wesson SD9 and SD40 Self Defense pistols are similar in design and differ only in caliber used.

SD pistols are short recoil operated, locked breech weapons that use Browning-type locking system with tilting barrel. The trigger is of double-action only type, striker fired, with pre-cocked striker system. No manual safeties are provided, but guns are fitted with automated trigger and firing pin safeties.

Pistol frames are made from impact-resistant polymer, barrels and slides are manufactured from stainless steel. Double stack magazines hold 16 rounds of 9mm ammo or 14 rounds of .40SW ammo, the 10-round magazines are offered as well.

The magazine release button is located at the base of the trigger guard. Smith & Wesson

SD9 and SD40 Self Defense pistols are shipped from factory with fixed three-dot sights - front sight is provided with luminous tritium dot, and the rear sight is provided with white dots.

An integral Picatinny rail on the frame set below the barrel allows for easy installation of useful add-ons - such as laser-aiming module or tactical flashlight and that sort of thing.

The SW1911 Series

In 2003, Smith & Wesson introduced their variation of the classic M1911A1 .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol. gun, the SW1911. This firearm retains the M1911's well known dimensions, operation, and feel, while adding a variety of modern touches.

Updates to the design include serration at the front of the slide for easier operation and disassembly, a high "beaver-tail" grip safety, external extractor, lighter weight hammer and trigger, as well as updated internal safeties to prevent accidental discharges if dropped.

SW1911s are available with black finished carbon steel slides and frames or bead blasted stainless slides and frames. They are available with aluminum frames alloyed with scandium in either natural or black finishes.

These updates have resulted in a firearm that is true to the M1911 design, with additions that would normally be considered "custom", with a price similar to equivalent designs from other manufacturers.

Smith & Wesson's Performance Center produces the top of the line hand fitted competition version known as the PC1911.

While most 1911s run around 38 to 39 ounces, the PC 1911 is heavier coming in at about 41 ounces. The full-length guide rod adds some weight, and so does the add-on magazine well.

Smith & Wesson Rifles

During the early years of World War II, Smith & Wesson manufactured batches of the Model 1940 Light Rifle under request from the British Government.

The Model 1940 Light Rifle was a carbine manufactured in a desperate attempt by Smith & Wesson under request from the British government who wanted a short barrel, pistol calibre carbine.

It was designed around the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge, initial British trials proved the action unsuitable for a special high pressure 9mm cartridge the British Forces wanted to use.

Although a strengthened Mark II version was produced, and the original subsequently referred to as Mark I, the program was axed and the bulk of rifles produced were disposed of by the British.

A small number of rifles remained in the U.S. and sat around until they finally received a C&R designation and were sold off through an arms dealer in Atlanta, Georgia.

The M&P15 Rifle

In January 2006, Smith & Wesson re-entered the rifle market with its M&P15 series of rifles based on the AR-15 platform.

Unveiled at SHOT Show 2006, the rifle debuted in two varieties; the M&P15 and the M&P15T. Both are basically the same rifle, chambered in 5.56 NATO, with the T model featuring folding sights and a four-sided accessories rail.

At its debut, the M&P15's suggested retail price was $1,200, while the M&P15T retailed for $1,700. Their current line consists of four models, ranging in price from $1,049 to $2,200.

These rifles were first produced by Stag Arms, but marketed under the Smith & Wesson name. Currently Smith & Wesson makes the lower receiver in house while the barrel is supplied by Thompson/Center Arms which is an S&W company.

In May 2008, Smith and Wesson introduced their first AR-variant rifle in a caliber other than a 5.56 NATO round.

The M&P15R is a standard AR platform rifle chambered for the 5.45×39mm cartridge. In 2009, they released the M&P15-22, chambered for .22 Long Rifle.

The M&P15 Sport

The new M&P15 Sport rifle joins Smith & Wesson’s popular line of M&P15 semi- automatic tactical rifles. With its 5.56mm round, and its ready-to-go design, the M&P15 SPORT benefits from accurate 5R rifling, a durable Melonite coated barrel, adjustable sights and a single stage trigger.

It is a versatile, modular, exceptional piece of equipment.

As a point of full disclosure, since I was trained to use the M16 rifle in the Marine Corps, and honestly have never really been a fan of the M16 design, after shooting the M&P15 for the first time - I instantly knew that this is one gun that is perfect for the shooter out there interested in a great tactical rifle.

Its key features are a 6-position collapsible stock, Magpul folding MBUS, a forged integral trigger guard, a high temperature polymer handguard, an adjustable A2 front sight, flash suppressor compensator, an Extended Life Melonite Barrel Coating with 5R rifling.

In most other states, a shooter can get one with a 30-Round Magpul PMAG Magazine - but for the insane gun restrictions in California, they make one model which is called a California Compliant gun that comes with a 10-Round Fixed Magazine with Bullet-Button Technology.

The S&W Model 76 Submachine Gun

In 1967, Smith & Wesson produced a 9mm submachine gun because they wanted to capitalize on the increasing U.S. sales of the Israeli Uzi and HK MP5.

They borrowed the magazine of the Carl Gustav M45 submachine gun which had been popular with the U.S. forces in Vietnam as the "Swedish K". It was made with a similar side-folding stock - but the rest of that straight blow-back weapon had no parts in common with the earlier Swedish gun.

The S&W Model 76 submachine gun was made in limited numbers and was primarily used as a police weapon. Because all of them were made prior to 1986, many of them made it into civilian hands in the USA and are commonly used in submachine gun competition.

As for rifles, Smith & Wesson makes a line of bolt action rifles called the "i-Bolt." These all have synthetic stocks and are available in both .270 Win and .30-06 caliber.

Next month, in my last part of my four part series on Smith & Wesson, I'll discuss the importance of Smith & Wesson in the American Gun Industry, talk about how this great company is staying afloat, and I'll also try to answer a few e-mail questions - including one special e-mail that you might find very interesting.
