Wild West gold mine: Pennsylvania city auctions off artifacts to get out of debt

An East Coast city that's been sitting on a Wild West gold mine is finally cashing in on the loot.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's state capital, is auctioning off thousands of antique artifacts this week, hoping the sale will help pull the city out of debt.

Back in 1980, the citizens of Harrisburg elected Stephen Reed as mayor.

He envisioned the city as a tourist destination, filled with museums, including one showcasing Harrisburg's one-time claim to fame as the gateway to the West.

He spent more than $8 million on roughly 10,000 pieces, including antique guns, old horse-drawn wagons, “Wyatt Earp’s Days of the Week Shaving Set,” Jesse James and Billy The Kid wanted posters and sheriff's badges.

The city built one museum, but went broke before it could build three more, as the mayor intended.

"He went about it in ways that were not exactly according to rules," said Arlen Ettinger, President of Guernsey's, the New York City-based auction house the city hired to sell the items.

"He took city monies to acquire things that he thought would look well in museums, and he was a great fan of the old West."

Harrisburg will take every penny it can get. Unlike most auctions, this one requires no minimum bids.

"If there was ever a sort of every person's auction, this has got to be it," Ettinger said.

"There are things that are going to be quite expensive, I suspect, and things that will go for very affordable prices and that makes it open to everyone."

In the first three days, the auction raised approximately $2 million, nearly half of it from antique weapons. Theodore Roosevelt's rare combination rifle and shot gun went for $115,000, 10 to 15 times more than expected.

Harrisburg will use the money to pay down loans and bonds, but this auction is not expected to make much of a dent in its mammoth debt, estimated at more than $300 million. That debt was largely caused by the building of a trash incinerator more than 40 years ago.

The incinerator was designed to collect and burn trash from across the state as a way to make a profit, but it never really worked properly and the city fell deeper and deeper in the red trying to keep up with payments on the money borrowed to build the burner.

Harrisburg's chief operating officer, Robert Philbin, says the auction signifies a turning point from the past into what he calls the “post-recovery future” for the city.

"This is the best way to do it I think. It will go to people who respect the collection and institutions that respect the collection rather than molding," Philbin said. "I mean it's not doing any good in a warehouse in the city of Harrisburg.”

Early in our Nation's history... pioneers considered Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to be the "Gateway to the West".

Years ago, the then Mayor of the Pennsylvania state capital saw the wisdom in creating a museum paying homage to those pioneering days.

To create the magnificent institution he envisioned, the City spent millions for the acquisition of rare artifacts pertaining to the Old West.

In the process, the Mayor also saw fit to assemble collections relating to the Revolutionary, Civil and Indian Wars, and a wide range of other historic collectibles.

For various reasons, the Old West museum that the Mayor dreamt of was never built.

The staggering collection he amassed on behalf of the City - consisting of more than 8,000 antiques, artifacts, firearms, and rare documents - has languished in Harrisburg's storage facilities.

Now, in what is certain to be a massive and glorious event to be held in Harrisburg this July. Guernsey's will be presenting at Unreserved Auction this magnificent Collection.

The Auction

The Harrisburg Auction will be taking place July 15 through July 21st. The Auction will be taking place at City Island in Harrisburg.

There will be an Auction Preview being held at the D & D Building, part of the Public Works Complex at South 19th Street, Harrisburg, July 11 thru 14.

The Tonkawa Massacre of 1862

It must have been a Hellish Night!

It all started on the night of October 23rd, 1862, when several Indian tribes, including the Comanche, Delaware, Shawnee, Caddo, Wichita, and other tribes attacked the Wichita Agency in what later would become Anadarko, Oklahoma, then turned there sights on the Tonkawa.

The Civil War had been going on for over a year by then and most of the lines had been drawn as to which side the various Indian tribes would choose. The Cherokee nation was split and subsequently having a conflict of sorts. Parts were backing the Union, and parts were supporting the Confederacy.

Choctaw and the Chickasaw, and most of the Creek and Shawnee, sided with the Confederates. The Comanche, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Apache and Arapaho didn't support either side as they waged their war on whites. The Loyal Creeks, the Osage, some of the Shawnee, and the Wichitas had backed the Union.

The Wichita moved from the Agency to Kansas near the future site of Wichita, Kansas. A handful of smaller tribes such as the Caddo, Tonkawa and Wacoes were still located at the Wichita Agency which was now under Confederate control and basically remained neutral.

It Was The Largest Massacre In The Indian Territory -- And It Was Indian Upon Indian

The night of Oct 23rd, 1862, would bring about the largest massacre which the Indian Territory would ever witness. That night, the Osage and Shawnee, who were Union supporters, were attacking the Confederate post. The Osage riddled the structure with rifle shots and then set it on fire. The rest of the buildings at the agency were also burned and all the whites there were killed.

The raiders then moved on to Ft. Cobb where they killed the occupants and set that post on fire. Few of the whites believed him until he would take them outside and show them the glow of the burning Ft. Cobb five miles in the distance.

The whites believed that the friendly tribes would have warned them if there was going to be a raid. They were wrong. After the raiders had burned the Wichita Agency and Ft. Cobb, they turned south to the Tonkawa Village.

So why, when the American Indian had suffered so much at the hands of the white man, would Indian turn against Indian? This action against the Tonkawa had little to do with the Civil War. It was a longstanding hatred against the Tonkawa, a hatred held by all of the southern Plains Indian tribes.

It Was All About Unacceptable Behavior

The relations between the Tonkawa and neighboring tribes had been antagonistic for years for a variety of reasons including the Tonkawa acting as scouts for the Texas Rangers, and fighting alongside them in actions against hostile tribes including the Comanche. But besides helping the whites, the Tonkawas were cannibals. In fact, the word in the Comanche and Kiowa language used for Tonkawa meant the same thing "eaters of humans".

While the attack was probably a retaliation for the scouting done by the Tonkawa against the other Plains Indian tribes. The Comanche hated the Tonkawa for the killing and eating of a brother of one of their chiefs.

Then there is a story that a few years earlier two Kiowa boys about twelve years old were out hunting alone and ran into big problems with the Tonkawa. Supposedly, the Tonkawa tried to capture them but one boy escaped. The escapee hid in the bushes in a ravine and watched as the Tonkawas killed the captured boy and started cutting him up and began to cook the flesh on the campfire.

The escapee ran for his very life, but he was soon overtaken by a band of Comanches who were allies of the Kiowa. When the boy related the story, the Comanche went to the Kiowa village and gathered reinforcements. It was then that the two tribes rode to the Tonkawa camp and surrounded it.

Supposedly the Comanche and Kiowa approached the Tonkawa village by carefully hiding in the creeks and ravines until they were close enough to see if the boy's story was true. Once in position, supposedly they saw the dead Kiowa boy and the Tonkawa cooking his flesh on the fire.

It is said that the Comanche and Kiowa were so repulsed by what they saw that they immediately attacked and killed every man, woman and child in that Tonkawa village.

The Last Straw

This time the Tonkawa had supposedly killed and eaten two Shawnee, and that they were responsible for the death and dismemberment of a young Caddo boy.

Now the Osage, the Lenape, the Shawnee, the Caddo, the Comanche, the Kiowa, the Wichita and the Seminole had the entire Tonkawa tribe in one place, in one camp, and now they wanted to end this cannibalism.

It was nearly morning when the attack commenced, though the first streaks of daylight had not yet begun to spread over the Wichita hills. The Tonkawa camp was asleep. The surprise attack was not the only factor working against the Tonkawas. The attackers were mounted and armed with the newest rifles supplied by the Federals while the Tonkawa had mostly bows and arrows to defend themselves.

It wasn't much of a battle, it was just a slaughter. The few who escaped were tracked down and killed as they were found scattered in the brush and ravines. The massacre continued all through the night and into the next day.

While one report say that they had killed over 800 Tonkawa men, women and children, among them were Chief Plácido, or Ha-shu-ka-na ("Can’t Kill Him"), others reports only put the figure at 306.

One report said that the tribe had numbered over one thousand members the day before now was less that one hundred forty. The few Tonkawas that did survive straggled into Ft. Arbuckle, which was now under Confederate control being manned by the Chickasaw Battalion.

It was illegal for any other tribe to be in the Chickasaw Nation, so the commander at Ft. Arbuckle sent an urgent message to the Chickasaw governor asking permission for the tribe to seek shelter from the Osages in the Nation. The governor granted this permission.

The commander of the post gave what aid and food he could spare to the Tonkawas.  He then sent them to the springs on Rocky Creek eighteen miles east of Ft. Arbuckle to camp and recuperate. The rag-tag wounded survivors of the Osage raid moved into the safety of the springs on the first of November 1862 into the area that would someday become Platt National Park.

After that they then made their way to confederate-held, Fort Belknap in Texas in 1863. The massacre completely demoralized and fractured the remnants of the tribe, who remained without a leader and lived in squalor by Fort Belknap.

Afterwards

The remnants of the tribe then lived near Fort Griffin in Texas until 1884. They were then forced by the government to relocate temporarily to the Sac-Fox agency and then in the spring of 1885 to Fort Oakland, occupied by Chief Joseph’s Band of Nez Perce from 1878 to 1885.

Impoverished, their population continued to decline. In 1891, 73 members of the Tonkawa were allocated 994 acres of federal trust land, with an additional 238 acres in individual allotments, near the former Fort Oakland, which is today Tonkawa, Oklahoma, 12 miles west of Ponca City.

Numbering some 367 individuals at the time of the massacre, the Tonkawa tribe was almost nonexistent less than one-century later. The population on the reservation is 537 with 481 being officially on the tribal rolls.

Just for the Record

Just for the record, cannibalism was not a social norm with Native Americans. Most tribes have oral traditions that tell about how people become monsters if they partake in cannibalism. While that is true, some though say that the appetite for human flesh did not belong exclusively to the Tonkawa. It is believed that Kiowa and Cheyenne Indians ate the heart of an enemy they killed in battle.

But then again, those stories about the Kiowa and the Cheyenne might be all just part of the many tall tales that were spread about the viciousness of the "red man."

It is known that when some of the Cheyenne warriors who participated in the massacre at the Little Big Horn were later asked if they indeed ate the heart of some of Custer's soldiers - especially two time Medal of Honor recipient Tom Custer - they answered an emphatic "no!"

Is that why they dealt with the Tonkawa so severely? 

The word cannibalism conjures a detestable feeling in men and women everywhere. But even though that is the case throughout history, this strange and gruesome practice was not detestable in the Tonkawa world. And no, it was not merely Tonkawa warriors who ate human flesh. Fact is, there were other Native American tribes scattered throughout North America who did the same thing for one sick reason or another.

In the Tonkawa tribe, everyone participated in eating enemies who fell into their hands. Yes, men, women and children. Some historians believe that the Tonkawa believed that by consuming parts of an enemy’s body, the cannibal could acquire either some or all of the enemy’s power, courage, or fighting ability. Some believe that tribes who did this may have simply seen people as a food source.

Whatever the reasons, Tonkawa cannibalism angered the other Southern Plains tribes so much that they joined together to do something about it. And on the night of Oct 23rd, 1862, the other tribes showed their anger by wiping them out.

The Antelope Hills Expedition of 1858

The years 1856 to 1858 on the Texas Frontier were particularly vicious and bloody as the settlers continued to encroach into the "Comancheria." Settlers plowed under valuable hunting grounds, and the Comanche lost grazing land for their herds of buffalo and horses. 

In addition, the United States had done a great deal to block the Comanche's traditional raids into Mexico. Finally, the Comanches struck back with a series of ferocious and bloody raids against the settlers.
The Antelope Hills Expedition was a campaign from January 1858 to May 1858 by the Texas Rangers and members of other allied Native American tribes against Comanche and Kiowa villages in their homeland known as Comancheria.

For me, I see it as a black mark on the history of the Texas Rangers. The campaign began in western Texas and ending in a series of fights with the Comanche tribe on May 12th, 1858 at a place called Antelope Hills by Little Robe Creek, a tributary of the Canadian River in what is now Oklahoma.

The hills are also called the "South Canadians," as they surround the Canadian River. The fighting on May 12th, 1858 is often called the Battle of Little Robe Creek.

As the American Civil War drew closer, federal forces were moved about even more and the 2nd Cavalry was transferred from Texas to Utah. Eventually the U.S. Army disbanded the 2nd Cavalry as it fell apart when the Civil War began in 1860.  All in all, the U.S. Army proved wholly unable to stem the Comanche violence.

Not only were units being transferred, but believe it or not federal laws and numerous treaties barred the Army from pursuing Indians into the Indian Territories while the raids took place. Although many Indians, such as the Cherokee, were trying to farm and live as settlers, the Comanche and Kiowa continued to live in that part of the Indian Territories which was traditionally the Comancheria, while raiding into Texas. The loss of federal troops led Governor Hardin R. Runnels in 1858 to reestablish disbanded Frontier Battalions known as Texas Rangers.

Because of this, on January 27th, 1858, Governor Runnels appointed John Salmon "Rip" Ford, a veteran Ranger of the Mexican-American War and frontier Indian fighter, as Captain and overall Commander of the Rangers, Militia, and Allied Indian Forces. Ford was ordered to carry the battle to the Comanches in the heart of the Comancheria.

Ford, whose habit of signing the casualty reports with the initials "RIP" for "Rest In Peace,” was known as a ferocious and no-nonsense Indian fighter. Commonly missing from history books is John Salmon "Rip" Ford's proclivity for ordering the wholesale slaughter of any Indian, man or woman, that he could find.

Governor Runnels issued very explicit orders to Ford:

"I impress upon you the necessity of action and energy. Follow any trail and all trails of hostile or suspected hostile Indians you may discover and if possible, overtake and chastise them if unfriendly."

Ford then raised a force of approximately 100 Texas Rangers and State Militia. I read where Ford had "repeating rifles."

Repeating rifles were a significant advance over the preceding breech loaded single-shot rifles used for military combat of the time because they allowed a much greater rate of fire. Repeating rifles saw use in the American Civil War during the early 1860's.

The Spencer repeating rifle was a manually operated lever-action, repeating rifle fed from a tube magazine with cartridges developed in 1860. It was adopted by the Union Army, especially by the cavalry, during the American Civil War, but did not replace the standard issue muzzle-loading rifled muskets in use at the time. Other than a few rotating cylinder rifles and such, there were not a lot of what we would consider reliable "repeating rifles" in 1858.

Ford's Rangers had muzzle-loading rifled muskets, buffalo guns, and Colt revolvers. What he needed was additional men, so he set out to recruit ones he did not have to pay as he did his Rangers and Militia.

Among the traditional enemies of the Comanche were the Tonkawa Indians, then living on a reservation on the Brazos River, in Texas. The books that immortalize and praise the Tonkawa as friends and allies of the settlers generally downplay the fact the Tonkawa were cannibals, who the Comanche and virtually every other Indian tribe despised and loathed.

Yes, at least one American Indian tribe was indeed cannibalistic. In fact, the word in the Comanche and Kiowa language used for "Tonkawa" meant the same thing "eaters of humans". Ford had no reservations about using cannibals to help him as long as they were eating Comanches and not Rangers.

On March 19th, 1858, Ford went to the Brazos Reservation, near what today is the city of Fort Worth, Texas, to recruit the Tonkawa to join him.

An Indian Agent, Captain L. S. Ross, father of the future Governor of Texas, Lawrence Sullivan Ross, called Chief Placido of the Tonkawa to a war council where Ross stirred Placido's anger against their mutual enemy. He succeeded in recruiting 120 or so Native Americans to join his campaign, 111 of whom were "eaters of humans" the Tonkawa under Chief Placido. Ford hailed them as the "faithful and implicitly trusted friend of the whites".

The others were the Anadarko and Shawnee. They joined with approximately an equal number of Texas Rangers to move against the Comanches.

Ford's orders from Governor Runnels were to follow any and all trails of hostile and suspected hostile Indians, inflict the most severe punishment, kill them and their families, destroy their homes and food supplies, and to allow no interference from “any source”. "Any source" meant the United States, whose Army and Indian Agents might try to enforce federal protections in the way of treaties and federal law against trespassing on the Indian territories in Oklahoma.

Ford was a real gem of a human being. He wouldn't let law, treaty, the probability of cannibalism, or the killing of women and children get in his way. He was the type of white that gave other whites a bad name. Actually, he was the type of human being that makes rattlers look wonderful in comparison.

At dawn on May 12th, 1858, Ford attacked a small Comanche village in the Canadian River Valley, flanked by the Antelope Hills. Later that day they attacked a second village. Those Indians provided much stiffer resistance until its Chief Iron Jacket was killed. His son, Peta Nocona, arrived with reinforcements, which led to a third distinct clash between the Texas forces and the Comanche. 

At day's end the Rangers and their allies retreated back to Texas as the Comanches though in retreat were gathering reinforcements as more of their tribe arrived, together with Kiowa and Kiowa Apache allies. Having suffered only four Ranger casualties, plus over a dozen Tonkawas, the force killed a reported 76 Comanche and took 16 prisoners and 300 horses. 

Ford had ordered Iron Jacket's village and the original small village which they had attacked both burned to the ground. There is only limited mention in history, and none in Ford's official reports on the battle, but it is true that the Tonkawa actually ate their dead Comanche rivals on the night of May 12th, 1858, in what is referred to as a "dreadful feast." Of course, a few years later the Tonkawa would suffer in what became know of the Tonkawa Massacre of 1862.

After the Battle of Little Robe Creek, Ford returned to Texas and immediately requested that the Governor empower him to raise additional Rangers so that he could return north at once to continue his campaign in the heart of the Comancheria. Thankfully for the Indian women and children in the Comancheria, Governor Runnels had exhausted the entire budget for defense for the year and was forced to disband Ford and the Rangers.

Although Ford was unable to continue this campaign, he changed the face of Indian fighting on the plains and marked the beginning of the end for the Comanche and Kiowa. Fact is, it was only the Civil War that delayed the inevitable for the Indians.

All in all, it was the first time that Texan or American forces had penetrated to the heart of the Comancheria and attacked both Comanche and Kiowa villages with impunity. Yes, it set the stage for what would take place in the future.

Why should anyone "honor Trayvon Martin"?

On Sunday, July 14th, 2013, President Barack Hussein Obama released the statement below on the George Zimmerman verdict.

President Obama said:

“The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.”

Of course it would have been a real tragedy for the Zimmerman family if George wasn't armed and able to save his own life when it looked as though death was near, but I don't think the President would have seen a "White-Hispanic" death as being tragic.

Since a "White-Black" person like Obama has the desire to divide America even more than he has already made it, maybe he can hold a press conference and explain to ALL of America why anyone with good sense should "honor Trayvon Martin"?

Why would anyone, especially the President of the United States, want Americans to honor someone - anyone -  who was killed while attempting to murder someone else?

George Zimmerman was the victim here. No, it was not Trayvon Martin.

Martin was the assailant!

He was a 17 year-old young man!

However, in the case of Trayvon Martin, it may have enabled media and police to paint a more accurate picture of the deceased.

The Daily Caller and Yahoo News both have stories on new information surrounding Martin’s activity on such sites as Facebook, Myspace and (maybe Twitter).

Following a post by blogger Don Linehan on Wagist, both sites have cited tweets sent from the account NO_LIMIT_NIGGA, which they say has been positively identified as belonging to Trayvon Martin.

One picture from the Wagist post certainly backs the allegation up, showing a picture associated with the account which matches photos taken from Martin’s Facebook account, as well as Martin’s previously used nickname on Facebook – "Slimm".





Like it or not, Martin was indeed trying to kill Zimmerman when he was trying to smash Zimmerman's head into the cement pavement.

Honor him? In a pig's eye!

And as far as blaming the gun for this, it seems that the President and others in the black community would have rather seen George Zimmerman get his head smashed into the cement and their boy Trayvon Martin walk away free.

As for those who say that Zimmerman's gun "emboldened" him into confronting the bigger, stronger, younger man Martin? They have no idea what they are talking about.

I was in Security for years without the use of a gun and had to confront many punks who I suspected of doing something wrong.

What most liberal shitheads don't understand is that when in a confrontation which turns into a wrestling match, a gun can almost be a liability if the assailant gets hold of it.

I've seen uniformed Security, as well as uniformed Police Officers, try to stay alive while Joe Shithead assailant tries everything to take the officer's service pistol away from him so that he can use it on the officer.

In those cases, the officer is at a disadvantage because he is usually using one hand to try to protect his service pistol from being taken away from him - or her.

Of course, in this case, thankfully George Zimmerman was armed. If not, he would be dead and none of those who have a lynch mob mentality right now would have cared.

Apparently, from Trayvon Martin's emails and such, he talked a lot about using "ground and pound" fighting.

"Ground and pound" is a term used to describe a fighting style or technique in which one takes their opponent to the ground, and establishes a dominant position - usually a top position.

Then the attacker reigns down punches, elbows and forearm strikes to the downed fighter. This is used in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) or any other NHB (No Holds Barred) fighting.

The toxicology report showed that Trayvon Martin had low levels of marijuana in his system the night of the shooting.

But there was more than just a little pot!

In addition, prescription Temazepam, a hypnotic that has been traced to violent outburts in some, a form of Benzodiazepine or "Benzo" was found in his system. Also prescription Adderall, another drug that is liable to abuse, was also found to be present.

On drugs or not, I can't help but wonder if Martin would have still assaulted Zimmerman if Martin had known that the smaller Zimmerman was actually armed.
Maybe the knowledge that Zimmerman had a gun could have kept Martin alive.

It is possible that if he knew that Zimmerman had one, that he would have thought twice about assaulting him. 

Frankly, I don't think Martin knew that Zimmerman was armed and that's how he got himself killed. The whole ground and pound things failed when the man on the bottom fired a shot to save his life!

It must have been a shock to Martin who was in the process of smashing Zimmerman's head in the cement pavement. 

It seems that while Trayvon Martin figured that he could physically beat up the smaller out of shape George Zimmerman, "ground and pound" him, Martin picked the wrong guy to beat up and try to kill - because that night the smaller man was armed.

Honor Trayvon Martin when his legacy is one of a young man who got killed while trying to kill another?

George Zimmerman found Not Guilty - Let The Riots Begin!

That's right, let the riots begin!

Justice has prevailed and now let's see if those black militant leaders in the black community follow through with their threats to attack "Whitey" if they didn't get things their way.

Let's see if their lynch mob mentality rears its head and attacks the rest of America.

Like it or not, George Zimmerman has been acquitted of all charges in the February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, after being attacked by Martin.

Attacked with intent to kill! Yes, that is what took place!

When someone is trying to smash your head into the cement pavement, they are trying to kill you! And yes, that is what Martin did.

Fearing for his life, Zimmerman used deadly force to stay alive!

There are many in the black community who did not care if Zimmerman was fighting for his life. They didn't care if Zimmerman was dead or not.

Martin was killed in the process of trying to kill Zimmerman, and many militant leaders in the black community wanted revenge on Zimmerman.

And yes, they threatened riots in the streets and attacks on "Whitey" if Zimmerman was found  not guilty.

Well, now that's the case, so let the riots begin!

Why do I say, let them begin? Because we as a nation cannot bow down to any group who threatens the rest.

We cannot allow any group or minority to use the threat of violence to intimidate our justice system into accepting their demands - or else!     

The jury of six women informed Judge Debra Nelson shortly before 10 p.m. local time Saturday that they had reached a verdict after deliberating for approximately 15 hours over two days.

Zimmerman, 29, blinked and barely smiled when the verdict was announced. After hearing the verdict, Judge Nelson told Zimmerman he was free to go.

"We're ecstatic with the results," defense attorney Mark O'Mara said after the verdict. "George Zimmerman was never guilty of anything except protecting himself in self-defense."

Another member of his defense team, Don West, said: "I'm glad this jury kept this tragedy from becoming a travesty."

Prosecutors called Zimmerman a liar and portrayed him was a "wannabe cop" vigilante who had grown frustrated by break-ins in his neighborhood committed primarily by young black men. Zimmerman assumed Martin was up to no good and took the law into his own hands, prosecutors said.

State Attorney Angela Corey said after the verdict that she believed second-degree murder was the appropriate charge because Zimmerman's mindset "fit the bill of second-degree murder."

A court public information officer said that members of the jury had no desire to speak to the media Saturday night. Identities of jury members are currently protected by a court anonymity order.

No surprise at all!

Supporters of Martin's family who had gathered outside the courthouse yelled out "No! No!" when the verdict was announced.

"Today, justice failed Trayvon Martin and his family," said Roslyn M. Brock, Chairman of the NAACP in a statement.

"We call immediately for the Justice Department to conduct an investigation into the civil rights violations committed against Trayvon Martin. This case has re-energized the movement to end racial profiling in the United States."

"We are outraged and heartbroken over today’s verdict," said Benjamin Todd Jealous, President and CEO of the NAACP, in another statement.

"We stand with Trayvon’s family and we are called to act. We will pursue civil rights charges with the Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state, and we will not rest until racial profiling in all its forms is outlawed."

Around an hour after the verdict, Zimmerman's father tweeted: "Our whole family is relieved. Today... I'm proud to be an American. God Bless America! Thank you for your prayers!"

The verdict came a year and a half after black leaders angrily demanded Zimmerman be prosecuted.

And yes, the New Black Panther Party even put a Bounty on George Zimmerman's head at one point.

That anger appeared to return Saturday night outside the courthouse, at least for some who had been following the case.

Several Zimmerman supporters also were outside the courthouse, including a brother and sister quietly rejoicing that Zimmerman was acquitted.

Both thought the jury made the right decision in finding Zimmerman not guilty -- they rightfully felt that Zimmerman killed Martin in self-defense.

Authorities in Martin's hometown of Miami said the streets were quiet, with no indication of problems. The neighborhood where Martin's father lives in Miami Gardens was equally quiet.

O'Mara, Zimmerman's attorney, said his client is aware he has to be cautious and protective of his safety.

"There still is a fringe element that wants revenge," O'Mara said. "They won't listen to a verdict of not guilty."

Zimmerman was initially charged with second-degree murder in the death of Martin, but jurors could have also convicted Zimmerman on the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The jury had asked for a clarification on the manslaughter charge earlier in the evening.

The question read simply: "May we please have clarification for the instruction on manslaughter?"

As jurors awaited an answer, Nelson talked to lawyers at the bench and then said court would recess for a half hour. When attorneys returned, prosecutor Richard Mantei said that after conducting research, he would suggest asking the jurors to elaborate. Defense attorney Mark O'Mara agreed.

"Let's get clarification on their confusion," O'Mara said.

The judge then sent a note back to the jury that read: "The court can't engage in general discussion but may be able to address a specific question regarding clarification of the instructions regarding manslaughter. If you have a specific question, please submit it."

The jury also recessed for an hour for dinner, during which they were allowed to continue deliberating. They did not immediately respond to the judge's note.

If convicted, the former neighborhood watch volunteer would have faced a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder or 30 years in prison if convicted of manslaughter.

During the day about two dozen people gathered outside the courthouse awaiting a verdict, with supporters of the Martin family outnumbering those there for Zimmerman.

One man held a sign that read, "We love you George." A woman lay in the grass in a hoodie, her arms spread, in a re-creation of Martin's death.

During closing arguments, Zimmerman's attorney attempted to portray him as a neighborhood activist who shot Martin in self-defense and prosecutors attempted to paint him as a wannabe cop whose misguided suspicion resulted in the teen’s death.

As the jury began their discussions, police and civic leaders in this Orlando suburb went on national television to plead for calm in Sanford and across the country, no matter what the verdict.

"There is no party in this case who wants to see any violence," Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger said. "We have an expectation upon this announcement that our community will continue to act peacefully."

There were big protests in Sanford and other cities across the country last year when authorities waited 44 days before arresting Zimmerman.

Zimmerman shot Martin after being attacked and was in fear of losing his life. The court agrees that Zimmerman was justified in doing what he did.

So yes, the threats and the intimidation has not worked.

All of those black leaders who said that they were going to attack "Whitey" where he lives gave the white community notice that their intent was to do harm up them and their families.

So now, now that justice has prevailed in spite of their blustering and their threats, let the riots begin!

I read a number of statements talking about how "Whitey" is in for trouble if Zimmerman would be found not guilty. Many saying they want to "Kill Whitey" and burn their houses down.
Well, let them go over to "Whitey" and find out if "Whitey" is just going to dial 911 and cowardly crawl  under his or her bed while their homes are being burned down around them?
Yes, let them find out if that's the case?
Ever since last year after George Zimmerman defended himself from a bigger stronger younger man who was trying to kill him, if white Americans didn't know it before than, white Americans learned that there are thousands if not millions of black Americans who hate him and wants to spill his blood.

And yes, "Whitey" should know that the police can't protect his or her families and friends.

I recommend all White and Hispanic Americans be armed and ready to use deadly force if attacked by Blacks!

While black hatred for Hispanic Americans is evident as well, "Whitey" is the target of black rage.

And yes, since that is the case, Hispanic and White Americans should be ready to defend themselves.

If "Whitey" is smart and has listened to the reports of probable riots and assaults, then "Whitey" should know full well that his family should defend itself and not sit passively by while being attacked by militant blacks who will use this verdict as an excuse to go on a killing spree.

So will blacks riot and attack "Whitey" knowing that "Whitey" will shoot back when fired upon to protect his family?

Will black militant leaders call for calm knowing that the blood that they have called for might be spilled on both sides - and not just that of a white or Hispanic American?

But I ask you, do those black leaders who have threatened violence even care if black-Americans get killed if they tried to attack White and Hispanic Americans who will fight back?

Looking at the rate of black on black crime, I don't think so!

APPS: California's Gun Confiscation Scheme Gone Very Wrong

As frightening as this video is, in April of this year, the California State Legislature passed a bill approving $24 million to expedite the confiscation of 40,000 guns recently made illegal by California Democrats in control of the state.

SB 140, authored by Sen. Mark Leno, a Democrat from San Francisco, is gun-confiscation.

The measure will take $24 million from the Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) surplus funds and give it to the California Department of Justice (DOJ), which is in charge of confiscating illegal guns.

The DROS account holds fees that are imposed upon every transfer or sale of a firearm in California.

The funds will go toward enforcing the California Department of Justice's Armed Prohibited Persons System (APPS) program which began in 2007.

APPS cross-references various state databases to check people who have legally purchased handguns and registered assault weapons since 1996 against individuals who are prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

APPS also cross-references gun owners with individuals who have been reported to the state California Department of Justice as "mentally ill."

What this means is that Doctors and Hospitals in California are required to report to the California Department of Justice any individual who has received treatment or medications for any sort of disorder such as anxiety or hypertension or depression which is considered a mental disorder.

California is the only U.S. state where law enforcement officials actually confiscate guns from the homes of individuals who had bought guns legally in the past - yet have now been deemed not legally permitted to own them because of new laws.

It is laughable that California Democrats love depicting this state as being so modern and progressive.

Gun-confiscating agents do not obtain search warrants in California!

Supposedly they convince people to let them into their homes and hand over their guns.

But, it is good to know that if an individual does turn over a gun then he or she can be arrested on suspicion of illegally owning a firearm - whether they have one or not.

So your choice is to either let them in and illegally search your home, or be arrested on suspicion.

That's a hell of a choice!

No, this is not America. This is California!

The state is in control here. Our homes can be searched for one reason or another, at any time they wish, and their is nothing that we can do about it.
Our rights as Americans, our rights against illegal search and seizure, does not matter here in California.

Democrats here can just about get away with murder, especially since there is a Democrat in the White House who doesn't want his Attorney General to go against the illegal doings in States controlled by fellow Democrats.

Because we don't have even the smallest protections under the law, the innocent are not protected here in California.

Your home is not yours if the state of California wants to enter your home and terrorize your family. The state is in control here.

So what can be done?

I don't believe anything can be done here. Our judicial system is politically controlled by Democrats, and those attorneys who may put up a fight are ruined by the liberal controlled press and the Democrat Party political machine.

All I see that can be done is to put out a warning to others. And even with that, in reality it's up to you to decide whether you want this sort of nation or not.
Just as many are worried about the Federal Government abusing its powers, Americans need to protect their rights at the state level as well.

As for us here in California, the dictatorial Democrats are in charge and our rights are now null and void!

RANDOM SHOTS - Feds Study Duck Penises, Is Kansas City Safe for Whites? and More!

Before we get to the Duck penises, lets talk about two a-hole Black Boys who tried to kill a White Boy by setting him on fire!

Is Kansas City Safe for Whites?

Two Black Teenage Boys, both age 16, poured gasoline on a White Boy age 13 and set him on fire - because he "deserved it?"

The white teenager's mother says she was told it was a "Hate Crime." But, believe it or not, there are some who say it can't be a "Hate Crime" because her son is white?

What is that all about? Are there really people out there who believe that a "Hate Crime" can only be preformed on a black or gay or an illegal alien?

Hate is not limited to just a politically correct victim, or by one's color, sexual behavior, or nationality.

Hate is hate, and the white boy had gasoline poured on him and lit on fire! That is hate! 

But more so, this was attempted murder!

Police report that two Black teenagers (age 16) set the White teenager (age 13) on fire on his way home from school.

A 13-year-old boy who police say was doused with gasoline and lit on fire last week while walking home from school is recovering from first-degree burns to his face and head.

The boy was just two blocks from his home in Kansas City in March when two black teenagers began to follow him and then attacked him, his mother, Melissa Coon, said.

Police have described the perpetrators as black 16-year-olds, while the victim is a white 13-year-old.

The victim's mother Melissa Coon said his attackers told him "you deserve it!"

He "deserves it"?

Is that what the public schools in Kansas City is teaching the black kids there? Is that what the parents of those two a-holes put in their empty heads?

Attempting to burn a white kid to death because he "deserves it" because he's white is a scary environment. Is Kansas City safe for White Americans?

And since he like to comment on crimes taking place with blacks involved, where was President Obama on this one? Why didn't he come out an say that if he had a son that they would act like those two a-holes?

Does being "white" mean that you are "deserve" having black people throw gasoline on you and being set aflame?

The era of Obama has made race relations in America an explosive issue.

Yes, these are sorry days in race relations in America. And frankly, I don't see them getting better anytime soon.

And since I see can find no other adjective to call the two a-holes who set that boy on fire, I have to ask - what do you do with such animals as those two?

Convict and send to jail? Because of their youth, will the justice system in Kansas City prosecute these two for "Attempted Murder" or simple assault? 

And since the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is black, and is always siding with blacks like those Black Panther punks who openly threatened people at a polling place, has his Department of Justice looked into what's going on in Kansas City to see if this sort of racist crime is endemic to that area?   

"We were told it's a hate crime," Ms Coon told KTLA.

"They rushed him on the porch as he tried to get the door open," Ms Coon told KMBC.

"(One of them) poured the gasoline, then flicked the Bic, and said, 'This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy.'"

By lighting the gasoline, the second attacker "produced a large fireball burning the face and hair" of the boy, according to a Kansas City Police Department report obtained by KCTV.

"It was pretty bad stuff," Detective Stacey Taylor told the TV station, adding that police are concerned the boy may have suffered damage to his eyes and lungs.

Ms Coon said her son put out the fire with his shirt and called 911 himself. He was rushed to the hospital and was treated for his injuries.

She believes the students also attend East High School with her son, and said he will not be returning to the school.

"My 5-year-old came in and asked me, 'Mom, am I going to get set on fire today?'" Ms Coon said. "I was in tears."

As sad as it is, Melissa Coon told KMBC that her "traumatized family now plan to move."

No one should have to move in fear. 

And yes, don't let anyone fool you my readers into thinking that this was just a "Hate Crime" - it was attempted murder because he is white.

It appears that Kansas City is not safe for white people.

IRS Gives $50 Million to 23,994 “Unauthorized” Immigrants At One Georgia Address

Does all of this news with the IRS make you angry? Well, prepare to get pissed off even more!

It  mount, now comes word that the Internal Revenue Service sent nearly $50 million dollars in “tax refunds” to “unauthorized” Illegal Aliens in 2011.

Worse yet, the $50 Million all went to the exact same address in Atlanta.

No kidding! Talk about some of the dumbest folks ever, a recent review by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found that a whopping $46,378,040 in “tax refunds” -- they were all sent to 23,994 different names who were amazingly all supposed to be living at the same address in Atlanta, Georgia.

Add this to the thousands of IRS agents that abused government-issued credit cards, the millions of tax dollars the IRS spent on lavish parties for its employees, and the numerous other ways the IRS is abusing its powers, and we see an agency rife with corruption.

But it gets worse. That wasn’t the only Atlanta address that seemed to be teeming with illegal aliens who miraculously deserved tax refunds.

The TIGTA audit found that there were many other addresses in Atlanta that had this amazing amount of residents all conveniently due tax refunds.

As CNSNews.com reported on June 21:

"The IRS sent 11,284 refunds worth a combined $2,164,976 to unauthorized alien workers at a second Atlanta address; 3,608 worth $2,691,448 to a third; and 2,386 worth $1,232,943 to a fourth."

But wait, Atlanta wasn’t the only place where these “unauthorized aliens” supposedly lived.

Millions of dollars in refunds also went to addresses in California, North Carolina, Florida and other states.

So, just what is an “unauthorized alien”?

Well, the IRS issues these Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers to two types of non-resident aliens.

One is non-resident aliens that have no tax liability and the second is aliens living in the US who are “not authorized to work in the United States.”

But these numbers are still used by illegals to get work in the US even though they aren’t supposed to be used in such a way.

This is a long-known fault in the system. Even as far back as October of 1999 the government reported on the abuse of these ID numbers.

IRS whistle-blowers have raised the alarm on the practice of issuing these ID numbers noting that the numbers are issued with little to no oversight or verification.

The TIGTA report verifies that claim.

The IRS, for instance, issued ID numbers to 15,796 “people” all registered to a single Atlanta address.

Also revealed were 6,411 ID numbers registered to one North Carolina address, 16,681 to another NC address, 15,028 to a single Texas address, and 10,356 to a New Jersey address.

This is likely just scratching the surface of such abuse.

Most believe that these are all registered Democrats that the Supreme Court says is OK and the Obama Campaign used to win re-election.

Obama Spends $20,000,000 Helping Indonesian Kids Get College Degrees

Millions of young Americans are being disgorged from our universities every year owing up to hundreds of thousands of dollars with seemingly no hope of paying it all back.

Further our government is bankrupt, over spent, in the red. Yet, you should be proud, America, because Barack Obama is paying to give Indonesian kids a Masters Degree!

Even as high an official as Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has reported that his son will graduate with a $400,000 student loan debt.

Even if he makes a LOT of money this kid will have trouble paying that back. It’ll take years. And for a regular American it would take several decades.

But not for Indonesia.

The Obama administration is expanding a program that provides free educations to people in Indonesia looking to become “professionals.”

Obama who spent his formative years growing up in Muslim schools in Indonesia hopes to create a “number of Indonesian future leaders holding advanced degrees (Masters) from U.S. and in-country institutions of higher education.”

U.S. Trade & Aid Monitor reported that last year the Obama administration sunk an additional $90 million U.s. Taxpayer dollars into aide for Indonesia.

Obama sunk some of the money into schools–including radical Islamic Madrasas–with a project named PRIORITAS.

That stands for Prioritizing Reform, Innovation and Opportunities for Reaching Indonesia’s Teachers, Administrators, and Students.

Part of that additional $90 Million (on top of what we’ve spent already) will include an additional $20 million for the masters program. This is phase II, though and it isn’t clear what was spent on phase I.

And that is just one of the programs. There are many, many others all costing millions each.

It is very likely that Obama is spreading all this free cash to his former home and allowing them to spend it however they want. Such as on radical Islamic Madrasas.

Meanwhile, in the USA, student loan rates will at least double and Obama has not come up with one suggestion as to how to bring down the cost or rates.

Have you wondered why so many college students who still live with the mom and dad actually voted for Obama?

Maybe they are just not very bright!

Government Spends $15 Million To Study Why Most Lesbians Like Rosie O'Donnell Are Fat And Ugly.

Your tax dollars are being spent on studying why lesbians are fat.

As ridiculous as this sounds, it is not a joke.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded $1.5 million to study the biological and social factors that cause a large number of lesbians to be obese.

According to NIH three-quarters of lesbians are obese even though gay males are not — they call it an issue of “high public-health significance.”

A hospital in Boston, Brigham and Women’s, received two grants to carry out the study. The overall goal is to study the relationship between sexual orientation and obesity.

Part of the grant reads, “Obesity is one of the most critical public health issues affecting the U.S. today. Racial and socioeconomic disparities in the determinants, distribution, and consequences of obesity are receiving increasing attention.”

“However, one area that is only beginning to be recognized is the striking interplay of gender and sexual orientation in obesity disparities,” it continues, “is now well-established that women of minority sexual orientation are disproportionately affected by the obesity epidemic. In stark contrast, among men, heterosexual males have nearly double the risk of obesity compared to gay males.”

S. Bryn Austin, Director of Fellowship Research Training in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, will be leading the project.

Austin also teaches at the Harvard School of Public Health.

The grant says the “project end date” and “budget end date” is June 30, 2016. The researchers argue that this is a study of “high public health significance.”

“High public-health significance?”

What is that all about?

One of the researchers said, “It will be impossible to develop evidence-based preventive interventions unless we first answer basic questions about causal pathways, as we plan to do.

Our study has high potential for public health impact not only for sexual minorities but also for heterosexuals, as we seek to uncover how processes of gender socialization may exacerbate obesity risk in both sexual minority females and heterosexual males.”

Some studies are already in the works among other researchers. As for being ugly, most researchers agree that they are just that way and it may go along with being liberal.

One study says that spoons and forks are responsible for lesbians being fat in the same way that guns are responsible for people getting killed.

Yes, Feds Spend $384,949 to Study Duck Penises!

While the White House shut down tours to American grade-school students and threatened to cancel April Fool’s Day egg rolls, besides it spending over $100 Million on Obama's latest vacation - this time to Africa - the Federal government is spending huge amounts of money to study duck penises.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $384,949 grant to Yale University for a study on “Sexual Conflict, Social Behavior and the Evolution of Waterfowl Genitalia”, according to the recovery.gov website.

The grant description says,“The project examines how reproductive morphology covaries with season, age, and social environment in a diverse sample of duck species that differ in ecology, territoriality and breeding system.”

Conflict between the sexes over control of fertilization is expected to be widespread among organisms, but its evolutionary consequences are still poorly understood particularly in vertebrate animals.  

Waterfowl have complex breeding systems that include female partner preferences based on elaborate male plumage and courtship display, and unsolicited reproductive attempts by males other than the female's chosen partner.  

Female ducks show resistance behaviors and anatomies that have coevolved with male coercion.  

Ducks are ideally suited to study the evolution of sexual conflict and the evolution of reproductive structures.  

The project examines how reproductive morphology covaries with season, age, and social environment in a diverse sample of duck species that differ in ecology, territoriality and breeding system.  

Preliminary results of the project, suggest that male competition plays an important role in the evolution of waterfowl reproductive morphology, that male reproductive morphology is plastic depending on age . . .

Once that is done, replace them with the words "worms, mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, monkeys," or any other animal.

Yes, you will find almost the exact wording that all other researchers use when it comes to asking for taxpayer Grant money.

Yes, they all try to make the same plausible argument to justify their claims of needing our money. Yes, it is a scam!

It keeps a lot of those liberal researchers driving around in their fancy cars and affording Starbucks. It is their 30 pieces of silver for voting for Obama and sealing out the nation.

One of the largest sources of funding for universities comes from publicly funded government granting agencies such as the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Approximately 47% of NIH-funded research involves experimentation on animals.

In 2009, the NIH budgeted nearly $29 Billion - that $29,000,000,000 taxpayer dollars for this sort of research. And yes, it has gone up from that every year!

Since the study was a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, hot duck sex may be the only real stimulus that came out of the $812 billion 2009 Obama spending package.


What Ducks Learn At Yale!

Seriously, this is why we are in debt.

When someone talks a lot of crap about "Disabled Americans collecting checks" - ask them how many Americans can be helped if hypocrite con artists like those at Yale who aren't above picking the public's pockets didn't steal millions of dollars each year from taxpayers to study bogus bullshit like duck genitals?

When our government is running deficits each year, an expenditure like this is just criminal.
