Since I was asked, I decided to list my choices of the
Top 10 Westerns of All Time.
So here they are.
What I believe are some of the best Westerns ever made.
You might agree with some and not others.
And yes, some you might have never heard of.
All in all,
I hope you'll check out my choices
and see these great films in the future.
FIRST PLACE
THE MAN WHO SHOT
LIBERTY VALANCE
In short, this story is about a U.S. Senator who returns West to attend the funeral of an old friend.
Upon his arrival, he ends up telling a local reporter
the truth about the deed that made him famous and changed his entire life.
A life made famous for killing a notorious outlaw
by the name of Liberty Valance.
SECOND PLACE
BIG JAKE
It's 1909, a gang of murderers go on a killing spree to kidnap an 8-year-old boy
and hold him for a million dollars ransom.
After the outlaw raid on the McCandles Ranch, Martha McCandles
sends for her husband who she hasn't seen in 18 years.
He is the sort of man needed to rescue the boy - their grandson.
While the Texas Rangers give chase in rickety automobiles,
Big Jake McCandles is on their trail that takes place in Texas.
Everyone tells him how much times have changed and that the old ways are dead and gone.
The Old West is giving way to modern changes,
Jake sees the world as it really is - he understands that bad change is bad while good change is good.
For him, he'll stick to the old ways of dioing things until they new ways can be proven good.
Jake saddles up with his two sons who he hasn't seen in years,
an Indian friend, a faithful dog, and a box full of money.
They set out to bring the boy home.
And maybe, just maybe, hand out a little Old Style justice!
THIRD PLACE
QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER
American Cowboy Matthew Quigley is hired by an Australian Rancher.
When Quigley arrives Down Under,
all is not as it seems and soon he is fighting for his life.
FOURTH PLACE
THE PROFESSIONALS
In the latter period of the Mexican Revolution, Rancher J.W. Grant hires four men,
who are all professionals in their respective fields,
to rescue his kidnapped wife Maria from Mexican Revolutionary Jesus Raza.
They find out that things are simply what they appear,
and not what was said to be.
FIFTH PLACE
CAHILL, U.S. MARSHAL
J.D. Cahill is the toughest U.S. Marshal they've got,
just the sound of his name makes bad guys stop in their tracks.
His two young son's get his attention when they go in with a few cutthroats and rob a bank.
The boys end up getting more than they bargained for,
and now it takes dad to figure things out.
SIXTH PLACE
MONTE WALSH
(Tom Selleck)
It is the dawn of the 20th century, the Old West and the Cattle glut is coming to an end.
The economy is hurting, and cowboys Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins are long-time friends.
They've both worked whatever ranch work comes their way,
but "nothing they can't do from a horse."
Monte has a long-term relationship with a local "soiled dove" Martine Bernard,
while Chet has fallen for the Hardware Store widow.
Hard work and cowboy comraderie fill their days,
until Shorty Austin loses his job as a hand and gets involved in rustling and robbing.
Shorty kills Chet Rollins.
Monte goes after the man who was once a friend for killing a friend,
while refusing to let the Old West die.
SEVENTH PLACE
CROSSFIRE TRAIL
EIGTH PLACE

A great story about the last days of the Old West when a couple of former Rough Riders,
