More Random Shots - I'm part of the 16%

First Shot!

Most know that I'm not a fan of Hollywood and their liberal actors. Because I don't like the idea of putting a dollar in the pockets of actors who have voiced their disdain for Conservative Americans like me, I hardly get to the movies these days.

Because of their politics, I usually avoid movies that star actors like George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner, Michael Moore, - and absolutely anything with Sean Penn in it.

Since Hollywood is predominantly Left, I have boycotted a lot of movies that have come out in recent years. I've boycotted them in the same way that I don't tune into David Letterman and Chris Matthews, I simply don't watch what they have to offer.

Usually, I'd say 9 times out of 10, I've seen evidence that Letterman and Matthews can be bias and hateful toward anything conservative. And yes, what's worse is that they don't care who they offend in the process.

I remember a time when most "Talk Show" host and News people would at least give the appearance of being impartial, but that doesn't seem the case for many of the ultra-liberal left on television and the entertainment industry.

Last year, I believe that I only put in 2 movies all year.  So far this year, I've beaten that number.

On New Year's Day, my wife and I went to see Robert Downey Jr in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows."  If you want a new take on Sherlock Holmes, this movie is for you. Since I've been a big Sherlock Holmes fan since High School, I really liked the new twist on how Holmes and Watson are presented.

Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law do a wonderful job of taking on the roles of  Holmes and Watson. They make a great team.  And yes, for you folks who remember the old Sherlock Holmes movies, or remember the how the books went, then it will be a relief to know that this movie ties up all the loose ends as to how he knew what, how, when, where, and who did it in the end -  just as the books always did!

There's also something else about the new Sherlock Holmes movies, both this sequel and the first with Downey and Law.  The producers of this movie really capture the look and feel of 1890s England in this movie. It seems that the makers of this film went way above and beyond to produce an accurate portrayal of that time period.

It is an adventure film filled with all of the quirks of the great detective. I like it so much, I'd like to see Downey and Law follow this movie up with another! And no, I'm not just saying that because Robert Downey Jr is a Conservative. It's just that good.

On Tuesday night, for my wife's birthday, we went to see a whole different type of movie called "We Bought A Zoo."

This movie has Matt Damon in it and is really well done. Surprising enough there wasn't a hint of liberal politics or conservative bashing in the entire movie. At least, not as I could tell. And yes, that was a surprise to me considering that Matt Damon is an actor who has been very vocal with his liberal bias.

The movie has a great story, great acting, and it's put together wonderfully. It tugs on hearts strings in many ways and is a film that I'd recommend going to see.

And just so you know, my wife picked it to see because she has a lot more forgiveness for the comments coming from liberal actors than I do. Almost as to say, they really don't know what they're talking about so who cares what's their politics. I wish I had such patience with the left.

Next Shot!

A Massachusetts library sent the Police to collect overdue books from a 5 year-old little girl .

No kidding! Imagine what these people have done! The little girl was reportedly scared to tears after a library ordered police officers to her home to collect overdue books.

Shannon Benoit, the mother of 5 year-old Hailey answered the door to Charlton Police Sergeant Dan Dowd who was sent to her home to let know that her daughter had two books overdue which had to be either returned or paid for.  That was reported by CBSBoston.

"I thought it was way overboard," Shannon Benoit told CBSBoston. Five year-old Hailey allegedly even asked her mom if she was going to be arrested.

Can you imagine that?

From the reports that I've read, Benoit wasn't the only one who thought the gesture was a bit over-the-top. "Nobody wanted to, on this end to get involved in it," said Sgt. Dowd to CBSBoston. "But once the orders were given, it had to be done. The books have since been returned."

When I first read this story I remember saying that I hope Hailey's mother can find a good Lawyer to teach that library a lesson in not scaring kids over what amounts to a minor problem. Then I thought, I hate frivolous lawsuits. But friends, someone at that library should lose their job for doing what they did.

It should not stand! Shame on them!

Third Shot!

Iran ought to check itself to see if its thinking straight! A warning came from Iran to the U.S. Navy that one of our Aircraft Carriers may be a target.

Now I can tell you from first hand experience that it doesn't matter what the Obama White House says of does pertaining to trying to appease the Iranians. Fact is that the U.S. Navy will do everything short of Nuclear War to protect its fleet and its Sailors.

So if anyone is under the impression that Obama will turn tail and run from the Iranian threat and sacrifice one of our ships in the process, please do not under-estimate our Naval Commanders in the fleet. Where Obama might apologize to Iran for spitting in our eye, the U.S.Navy won't.

Fourth Shot!

If you ask a liberal environmentalist they'll say it's probably George Bush's Fault! But friends, VOG is hitting the islands of Hawaii really bad right about now.

What? You say you've heard of fog and smog, but never vog.  Well, vog is a real deal. Vog is air pollution caused by volcanic activity on the Big Island of Hawaii. No, it's not man-made. It is mother-nature's oldest form of natural pollution. And yes, it's effects can be tough to take.

Right now Oahu's emergency rooms have been overwhelmed at times, especially ever since Hawaii Medical Center closed two of its hospitals last month. The issue of a lack of emergency rooms has reached its peak during this crisis since Tuesday when the vog rolled in.

Reports say that according to Emergency Medical Services officials, at one point in the day, only two emergency rooms on the entire island were accepting ambulance patients.

Friends, Oahu has a population of just under a Million residents, 953,207 to be exact. That figure is not counting tourist. For the Governor of Hawaii to let this happen is criminal.  And yes, it goes to the lack of planning and preparation if a big civil emergency would take place.

When the trade winds back off, haze is fairly common. But for some, it's more than feeling like you're living in Los Angeles.  Those folks with respiratory problems have to beware and take precautions. Breathing becomes a harder, and depending on the extent of your illness or if you have asthma - well you could be in trouble.

On Tuesday, the thick vog put a spotlight on an already sensitive issue of not enough emergency rooms on Oahu as emergency rooms fill to capacity.  I guess it was something that Hawaii's State government didn't want to address or advertise.

With lots of calls for respiratory complaints, headaches, and watery eyes, and of course the huge amount of extra patients, it overwhelmed emergency rooms across the island of Oahu. Of course health officials remind those with respiratory disorders to try to stay indoors when the vog is thick and drink lots of water and avoid strenuous activity.

Yes, whether liberal environmentalist want to admit it or not, it's a fact of life that mother-nature has the biggest carbon footprint of all.

Fifth Shot!

In Oklahoma, a young recently widowed mother shoots and kills an intruder who was breaking into her home. Good job gal!

It irks me to the core to know that there are scum-buckets out there preying on those they assume is weak and helpless.  Well, she was neither!

On New Year's Eve two intruders were at her door, she called 911 and spoke to a dispatcher on the phone about the problem she was facing.

The 911 tape that was released to Oklahoma City media outlets Wednesday reveals that 18-year-old Sarah McKinley asked a Grady County dispatcher for permission to shoot the intruder. Yup, that's right. She kept her cool and asked if it's OK to shot an assailant intent on doing harm.

The 911 dispatcher gave her some pretty good advice.

"I've got two guns in my hand. Is it OK to shoot him if he comes in this door?" McKinley asked the dispatcher.

"Well, you have to do whatever you can do to protect yourself," the dispatcher is heard telling McKinley. "I can't tell you that you can do that, but you have to do what you have to do to protect your baby."

Oklahoma law allows the use of deadly force against intruders, and prosecutors said Sarah McKinley clearly acted in self-defense. And yes, Sarah's 3-month-old son was with her when she shot Justin Shane Martin, age 24, at her Blanchard mobile home.  And by the way, the dead outlaw Martin was holding a knife when he died.

There you have it - again more proof that you should never take a knife to a gun fight! In this case here, I'm thinking the dead outlaw must have felt pretty stupid when he heard the bang from that gun that Sarah was using.

"Our initial review of the case doesn't indicate she violated the law in any way," Assistant District Attorney James Walters told The Oklahoman newspaper.

As for the intruder's accomplice, well even though he turned himself in - he's been charged in the death of his buddy. That's right, prosecutors have charged Martin's accomplice, 29-year-old Dustin Louis Stewart, with first-degree murder.

According to authorities, Stewart was with Martin but ran away from McKinley's home after hearing the gunshots. That gunshot must have changed Stewart's mind convincing him that that was indeed a bad idea. But the idiot was a little too late in changing his mind, he started as an outlaw and now he's being charged as an outlaw.

"When you're engaged in a crime such as first-degree burglary and a death results from the events of that crime, you're subject to prosecution for it," Walters said.

Sarah McKinley said it took the men about 20 minutes to get through her door, which she had barricaded with a couch. She lost her husband about a week earlier, on Christmas Day, after being hospitalized with complications from lung cancer earlier that month.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who can handle adversity and kick its ass! Needless to say that Sarah McKinley has had it tough, but you have to hand it to her for showing what kind of stock she comes from. She kept her head and did want needed to be done in a hot situation - she definitely has my respect.

God Bless you gal!

Last Shot!

For months we heard about the Occupy Wall Street protesters calling themselves the 99%.

Right, all a bunch of rich kids with nothing else to do but protest America and what has made us the envy of the world.  College kids mostly, not a whole lot of common sense among them really.  If they did have common sense than they'd know how this nation was built.

If they had a brain among them, then maybe they'd appreciate the work, the toil, the long hours, and personal and private sacrifice that has gone into building businesses that employ others so that their families can live a good life.

If they knew the simplest things about America that we require immigrants to know about us to be eligible for citizenship, then maybe they'd understand how the rest of the nation saw them. Maybe then they'd understand why most folks see them as stupid in the least -  and naive at best.

Of course they don't care what anyone else thinks, they know it all - just go ahead and ask them.  They regurgitate Socialist rhetoric that they've learned during their liberal educations in the same way as a baby throws up its food. All response and no thought behind it.

In fact, thinking about it, I'd say that a young Socialist has a lot in common with a baby. Both cry and scream for attention. And of course, yes, both are still wet behind the ears and don't know shit from applesauce!

For me, I just found out that I'm part of the 16%.  That's right, according to the 2010 Census, 16% of Americans live in Rural America.

Supposedly, by way of the census figures, many skeptics see America as a place where suburbs merge, city boundaries become indistinct.  According to these wiz-kid Demographers, many communities could shrink to virtual ghost towns as they close down businesses and schools. More metro areas are booming into sprawling megalopolises.

Of course these same folks are all doom and gloom, never having a positive thing to say about anything. They paint Rural America as having no purpose, they say, "rural areas grow ever less relevant."

That's find if they think so, I don't. Those college kids who come up with these reports never take into consideration the migration that has been taking place in America.

They seem to omit the facts that don't help their argument. Fact is that most newly married couples can't afford to live in the city, small or big, these days. Fact is that they, along with millions of others, are moving to Rural America to get the hell away from the city sprawl, congestion, traffic, drugs, high crime rates, growing murder rates, racial tension, and a lack of good schools that aren't just liberal indoctrination camps.

Fact is that retired Americans are going back to the country in droves simply because the city scares them and the suburbs are being overtaken with gang violence and drugs.

But that's OK, if some folks out there end up believing the latest gloom and doom forecast from some idiot that don't where milk comes from, or what that hamburger was before they ate one, or who grew that salad of theirs - just remember, they think Rural America is not "relevant."

If they are so smart and we're so irrelevant, then they should try to make a meal out of their ipods - or go chew on a silicon waffer.

As for me, well, until those who think they have all the answers finally wake up and find out that they don't, my horses and I are going to Occupy Rural America by way of my barn! After all, we are the 16% who will keep growing the food that the other 84% needs to live on!

My Grandpa used to say, "Feed hay to horses, and words to the wise - but only if they'll listen."

Keep your cinch tight and ride easy!

Random Shots - Obama's $4 Million Vacation!

First Shot!

It was a sorry end to 2011 for a group of about 250 San Francisco juveniles heading to the slopes.

Yup, the Police in Nevada busted 250 of the underage skiers for marijuana possession when the group’s buses stopped for gas during their skiing vacation to Utah. The Police Officers on scene are said to have found marijuana in the luggage of almost all the kids.

But wait, the problem that the law has at times is simply not enough jails!  Why? Well, the officers let them all off only with a warning - because the local jail could accommodate only 20 and they simply didn't have enough room for the rest.

But that's OK, I'm sure some of the Officers enjoyed watching those dopers cry a river of tears as they dumped their stash of illegal grass. Unless of course they could all produce prescription slips for medical weed - which is doubtful.

Second Shot!

So what are we supposed to think about an taxpayer funded abortion group that has assets of over One Billion Dollars?

No kidding, Planned Parenthood tops $1 Billion in assets! And friends, 46% of group's income comes from you and I - the Taxpayers.

It was reported that the nation’s largest abortion provider topped $1 Billion in total net assets in 2009-2010, its first time reaching that mark, according to Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report. Imagine that!

So why are American Taxpayers funding them? I blame the Liberal Left which finds it hard to kill a convicted murderer on Death Row, but finds it easy to kill unborn babies.

All 5 of the top GOP Presidential Candidates have signed a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood. Any one of them will get my vote come November!

Next Shot!

Talk about Taxpayer's funding things that are not a government service, how about the $4 Million price tag on Obama's vacation? That's right,  $4,000,000.00 for a holiday vacation to Hawaii on us!

Wow, that seems like a lot of money for a vacation. And yes, I once wondered about the cost as well. In fact I wondered so much about it that I asked a friend of mine who was once involved in setting up those sorts of trips.

I was told that people have a habit of forgetting "The Stuff." Yes, every time the president goes somewhere, it's not only Air Force One that goes along for the ride. No, not hardly. "The Stuff" goes with him.

Fact is that along with Air Force One are two Air Force giant transport aircrafts.  Both are tasked with taking along the president's limo, as well as all of the other vehicles in the president's motorcade -  including security vehicles and an ambulance. And don't forget his helicopter, Marine One. It goes along as well.

And although president Obama is one of the wealthiest men to ever be president, with a net worth of about 10.5 Million Dollars, he rents all of the places where he, his family, his staff, his guest who are his usually his biggest donors, his personal physician, and his security detail will be staying.

The good news is that President Obama has supposed ended his $4 Million dollar Taxpayer Paid vacation in Hawaii and is getting back to work.  Of course that means that he's need at a golf course or on the campaign trail where he'll be needed to attend fund-raisers so that he can raise millions of dollars from Liberals who want the federal government to pay for everything.

Some reports have suggested that he has worked while he's been away. Other reports have him swimming and having just one big party. I personally don't know if he's been working or not. But I know this, I sometimes think that our country is safer if he does nothing at all.

I read somewhere that the president is looking for a new campaign slogan for his 2012 reelection run. His problem seems to be that that whole "Hope & Change" thing is still alive in the minds of many Americans everywhere who are now searching for hope and want to change presidents.

The problem for Obama is that now the a lot of folks have a great picture of who he is and what he has down to America.  Now many are saying we need hope and change and it's time to get rid of Obama.

Yes America, many know the answer to the question "What would be a big change for this country?" The answer is clearly, a new president. And as one bumper sticker put it, "Any One But Obama."

Maybe then we will find out if all of the new compelling evidence from multiple experts that the birth certificate released by Barack Obama is a fraud is really true?

Fourth Shot!

But besides the issue with the Birth Certificate fraud, I've read about a few folks at the Gibson Guitar Corporation who would rest a little easier if Obama was out of the White House.

Yes, the same Obama appointed Attorney General who is believed to have authorized the gun running of arms into Mexico, has been busy in all sorts of ways.  Fact is that the Federal Government actually sent armed agents to conduct two raids of the Gibson Guitar factory. Yes, twice since Obama has become president.

So what Gibson Guitars has to do with Homeland Security is beyond me, but armed agents from the Justice and Homeland Security Departments did in fact raid the offices and factories of the legendary Gibson Guitar company in Nashville and Memphis last August for the second time since President Obama took office.

Imagine the scene, agents wearing bulletproof vests rush in, then round up everyone up and take them outside. After that they seized almost 100 guitars and boxes of raw materials. This according to Gibson Chief Executive Officer Henry Juszkiewicz.

The raid was designed to find illegally imported wood!  Yes, everyone in America knows the problem plaguing our nation's streets from the evils of illegally imported wood! Imagine that!

Supposedly the raids have cost Gibson Guitar Corp an estimated 2-to-3 Million Dollars in defense and legal costs. Non-refundable of course!

In the previous raid two and a half years ago, again over wood from Madagascar, the company was never charged but they still had to get legal help.

Each time, it's the same thing! The full force of the United States Department of Agriculture is put into action. That's right, the USDA!

The agents in August were investigating possible violations of the Lacey Act.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture website: The Lacey Act combats trafficking in “illegal” wildlife, fish, and plants. The 2008 Farm Bill (the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008), effective May 22, 2008, amended the Lacey Act by expanding its protection to a broader range of plants and plant products. The Lacey Act now, among other things, makes it unlawful, beginning December 15, 2008, to import certain plants and plant products without an import declaration.

But these weren't Inspectors from the US Department of Agriculture, this was big government gone wild using a group of agents from Homeland Security of all things. The Homeland Security agents seized 6,000 fingerboards made of rosewood from India.

Now another Federal agency steps in, this time supposedly it's the United States Fish and Wildlife Service!

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service claimed that the wood was exported "unfinished!" Yes, "unfinished!" And for those not in the know, that is a violation an Indian law that made it subject to the Lacey Act.

But wait, our Fish agents were wrong! In fact, India’s Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade wrote in a letter to the Obama Administration that the fingerboard is "a finished product and not wood in primary form."

And what else? Well, he went on to educate the Obama Administration by advising them that India allows free export of such products.

I honestly think it's a really sad situation where an agency of government can't simply sent someone over to a business and ask a question or two about the products they're using.  Why is it that there are people out there bent on treating everyone like they're criminals?

This gots-ya shit has got to stop!

There is no reason at all, for any of us who are legal citizens, to fear the Federal Government.  And surely we should not be afraid that the Federal Government is about to rush into our homes or businesses and conduct an armed raid.

In my opinion that's how Waco started. Over zealous agents, too willing to use their latest expensively equiped SWAT team to get to do police work.

That sort of action is what the Nazis did in Germany during the 1930's and during World War II.  It is horrible to think that our Federal Government can act like Nazis whenever the desire and the boredom overtakes them.

Homeland Security agents should be attending to the business of protecting "We The People" from Islamic maniacs bent on appeasing Mohammad by killing more innocent people, and Leftist groups intent on our destruction, not trying to find the goods on Guitar makers!

If we have "agents" they don't have anything to do in the way of securing America, then maybe they aren't needed anymore! If they can find the time to go bust guitar makers for what kind of wood they're using, then it's obvious that those guys in Homeland Security most think the real credible threats to this country is just not worth looking into.

So now, with some help from the Indian government, we can only hope that the Obama administration will leave Gibson Guitar Corporation alone to build something in America.

And for the last random shot of the new year, it's about Smith&Wesson firearms.

Smith&Wesson is the largest manufacturer of handguns in the United States. The corporate headquarters is in Springfield, Massachusetts. They were founded in 1852, and today Smith & Wesson makes revolvers, semi-auto pistols, and tactical rifles.

I have owned a few Smith's in my time. I've always liked the way they handle, the feel of the pistol, their reliability. I've always liked their balance, and the look, the basic aesthetics of their line of pistols.  Their guns were always nice and simple, and they didn't look like toys. They looked like firearms, guns, pistols.

Like many others, I wanted to buy another gun lately so I went to a Gun Shop and took a look at what I had already found on the Internet. Their new line of revolvers are ugly.  Please understand that's just my opinion, but Smith & Wesson is putting out some really ugly guns.

OK, so I like traditional looks. And yes, I know that some of their change is being made "to improve" on their guns.  But seriously friends, I really believe that aesthetics are important.

As I look at their line of handguns these days, and taking into consideration their extremely high prices, I'm probably going to go with another manufacturer like say Ruger or maybe even Charter Arms.

I know that Ruger puts out tough hard working guns. And as for Charter Arms, well like Ruger and Smith&Wesson, I know first hand that they put out a really reliable, well balanced, hard to beat, aesthetically pleasing line of pistols, accept without the insane prices.

I've owned a Charter Arms Bulldog since the early 80's.  It is rugged and lite, and it's great for taking along fishing, or at your side atop a horse in the back country. And these days, I go armed!

Until next time! Happy New Year!

It's What I Wanted For Christmas!

The question is the same one asked every year, "What do I want for Christmas?"

Well, this year, I actually gave it a lot of thought. Usually I don't really care what I get. I’m always grateful and happy with what folks will buy me. And the truth be known, I love the surprise of opening up gifts and seeing what folks come up with. It sure reflects how they see you – if you know what I mean!

I guess my wife thought I needed a kid’s toy last year. Last Christmas she decided to buy me a remote control car.

Now, believe me when I say that I never thought in my wildest imagination that I’d be working one of them things. No sir, not me, right? I figured that that was for kids and I’d save it for when my nieces and nephews come around.

Well, fact is that I’ve played around with the thing. I use it to frustrate our dog Jake.

Jake becomes completely helpless watching this thing buzz around, spin, reverse, and roll around the way it does. Poor dog can’t figure out whether he should bite it, chew it, or just sit on it to make it stop!

So yes, for some unknown reason, this year I was actually thinking about asking for something that I might really want and need. And yup, you can bet the ranch that I gave it some thought.

So what did I want?

Well, since I have more clothes than I can wear out, I knew I don't really need clothes. As for boots, western and construction boots, well I have enough to last me. And of course, yes there’s socks!

Socks are usually something that I can always use, except last year everyone gave my socks that now I’m good for the next twenty years at least with socks.

I thought about a new yellow rain slicker, but then again the one I have is still holding up fine. And as for a new hat, well I just bought a new Stetson to be in my friend's wedding - so I have a brand spanking new hat that hasn't even been around here but a little while. So no, I didn’t ask for either.

How about a new saddle, or bridles, breast collars, spurs, blankets, hole punches, latigo, cinches, new halters? Nope! I got everything I need there. And before you get all crazy yelling at the computer that “a man can never have enough tack!”

Well pard, I feel the same way – but I really do have a lot of tack! And when I took a long look at all the tack that I have, well I decided that maybe I should start thinking about my other likes.

What can I ask for in line with what I need to go fishing or camping, hunting, and shooting, guns, and of course Cowboy Action Shooting?

Well, I hadn't been fishing or camping in a long time and didn't know when I'd have time again for that, so I figured that fishing was out.

Of course I do need more ammo to shoot Cowboy Action Shooting. I shoot a lot so I can always use more ammo. I’m always ordering bullets and brass, so I can definitely use them.

As for the powder, the primers, the reloading equipment, and of course the “know-how” to reload my own, well that’s why I’m so grateful that my father-in-law reloads for me.

He has the reloading equipment and the “know-how” to get it done right. Besides, he loves putting those bullets in each case. He is very precise. He would've made the perfect Old World Toy Maker because of his patience and attention to detail.

So I finally had something to tell my wife about! Yes, there was something that I wanted for Christmas.

She immediately told me to write it down.

Now, let me make one thing clear, it's never safe to give a wannabe writer a piece of paper and a pen. And since my wife gave those very things to me to jot down my Christmas List, well now I had to write something more than just bullets and brass.

So since I've wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument, I decided that I needed an instrument. The problem is that I've never had any musical ability. But then again this is 2011, soon to be Twenty-Twelve, so why should a lack of musical ability stop me from playing an instrument.

Just turn on your radio to any kind of station and you're guaranteed to hear noise being passed off as "music" these days. So why should I be any different - I mean, at least I know I can't sing or play an instrument.

Maybe that's why Christmas Music is so popular! Once the radio stations turn over their broadcasts to Christmas Music, they double their listener-ship. In contrast to most music today, Christmas Music is understandable, clear, pleasant, and yes the voices are beautiful for the most part.

And as for an instrument to play, well, I thought that I wanted something nice like say a slide-trombone. So yes, I wrote "Slide-Trombone." Then I got to thinking granted a slide-trombone is a tough instrument to lug around. Besides, I really wouldn't consider a slide-trombone a soothing musical instrument.

So then I decided that since I’m willing to ask for a slide-trombone, why not just ask for a tuba for Christmas! So yes, I wrote "Tuba."  At least if you owned a tuba, you'd be able to do so many tunes. Yup, a Cowboy with a tuba on a horse riding into the sunset! Imagine that for a minute!

Of course we do have another problem. You see unknown to most people is the highly classified fact that most, if not all, tuba players can't sing a lick. So how can a cowboy sing to the cattle at night or serenade his sweetheart using a tuba?

Answer, he can't. And yes, in case you're curious, a flute and a sax both have the same problem as a tuba and slide-trombone. They just don't work out for practical purposes like serenading your sweetheart – even if you are a permanent member of a marching band.

Now a guitar, or say a mandolin, now that's a great Christmas present. But then again, they have a lot of strings. The strings can be a potential problem.

So, how about a ukulele? Half the strings, half the weight, half the size, and I played a uke in High School when I was a kid. And no, contrary to what some people want to say, I wasn't that bad with it. A ukulele is that perfect instrument in many ways. It's small, and yes it's easy to pack around. Besides, a cowboy on his horse with a uke is not out of the question at all.

I’ve always had a hard time asking for things for Christmas, especially lately in a time when most folks are short on dollars.

To me, there is a fine line between getting nothing and getting everything for Christmas. It seems to me that those people who get nothing haven’t asked for what’s important. I can thank God that I've always gotten everything for Christmas - at least everything important.

As for my Christmas, I spent Christmas Eve with my family being amazed at how my nieces and nephews are growing into adulthood. Truth is they are already adults for the most part. I love each and every one of them.

I invited a friend to spend Christmas Eve with my family and I was glad that he accepted. I have a very large family and we all get-together at my Mom’s on Christmas Eve. It’s a tradition that goes back many years. At one time many of us would go to Midnight Mass at a Catholic Church, but lately that has stopped because many of us are older and stay awake long enough.

And yes, since it is a lot of folks, it can be a bit chaotic and crazy at times. Fortunately for all, it’s all fun. It was good to hear that my friend had a great time.

On Christmas morning I gave my wife her presents and she gave me mine. All were fantastic! We lingered around the tree for a bit before getting out of our house and on the road to brother-in-law’s home for a Christmas Day get-together and dinner.

When we came home that night, we found that one of our horses, Dancer, had got out of her pen and was roaming around the property. A neighbor closed our gate to make sure she didn’t end up down the road and lost.

Afterward getting her in a pen, we both sat together on the sofa. It was an end to a long day. We talked about our horse Dancer and wondered who could have locked the gate - then we paused and said nothing for a while as we looked at our Christmas tree.

I got what I wanted and needed this Christmas. It wasn't a shirt or a new pair of gloves, it was what I watched on the faces of my family as they celebrated on Christmas Eve. The laughter, the happiness, the joy, and the fun. And yes, as they say, a good time was had by all.

It was a gift that I wanted to see and touch. I got what I had hoped for when I saw it on the faces of the children who came to see Santa, many for the first time. And yes, there were those who waited all year to sit on his lap and tell him what they wanted.

My gift includes that wonderful feeling of having good friends.  I still can't thank one friend enough for helping me two weeks ago when I needed him on short notice and he came through to help me with a horse.

So much is painted as bleak these days. If one believes the News Media then they may believe the worse. If we believe television, then there is a real lack of hope and goodness in Americans.  I really don't believe it.

I see hope in having neighbors like Alfie Fischer and his son Vince who are willing to help a neighbor simply out of friendship. And yes, there is a goodness about folks like the Fischers that one really can't put into words. They are just good people.

It is important to know that goodness is still alive and well in America. We are being bombarded with the idea that we are at our end, and I won't accept it no matter what might be said.

Yes, I had a great Christmas because I found what is important to me. And yes, it was all I wished for. I wished for signs of love and beauty and kindness, of family closeness, of friendship and camaraderie, of a wonderful life for maybe just a single moment, and I got my wish.

There is nothing like the night skies here in Glencoe. I can count every star if I had a mind to, point out every planet, and yes even see a satellite or two as they make their arc across the sky. I looked up into the heavens on Christmas night, and gave thanks for all that I've gotten.

Call for HBO Boycott because of Bill Maher's comments about Tim Tebow

So why am I taking a News story and reprinting it here? Well, this was in the News today, and I thought you might want to read about it because it just shows how Hollywood, television, and the Entertainment Industry treats Christians.

Just imagine if he were talking about a Muslim football player instead of a Christian player.  I believe, if that were the case, HBO would have jerked Maher's show faster than you can say Atheist.

Here's the article:

Some Call for HBO Boycott in Wake of Bill Maher's Derisive Tweet About Tim Tebow

HBO is catching some flak in the wake of comedian Bill Maher's crack about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

Maher, who hosts the long-running HBO show "Real Time With Bill Maher," wrote a message on his Twitter account after the Broncos lost to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

"Wow, Jesus just [screwed] #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere ... Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler "Hey, Buffalo’s killing them."

Tebow had thrown four interceptions in his team's Christmas Eve loss to the Bills, which prompted Maher's remark.

Tebow did not respond to Maher, but now some fans are calling for a boycott of HBO, urging customers to cancel their subscriptions, Yahoo! Sports reports.

Tebow has made it clear he believes in God, and some (including Tebow's own pastor) have said God is due some credit for the Broncos' surprise winning season with him running the offense. Many were surprsied when he was given the starting quarterback job as Tebow is an unorthodox quarterback with a below average arm that he overcomes with scrappiness and grit. The prayer he says in the end zone after scoring a touchdown has been dubbed "Tebowing," as the quarterback has become a national sensation.

Maher is an avowed Atheist. His "Real Time with Bill Maher," returns with new episodes on January 13, 2012.

--- end of article.

I have no idea why such a disturbed individual can have his own television show.  It seems to me that Bill Maher is a perfect representation of the anti-Christian Liberal Left in America.

Americans who are non-Christians are such a some percentage of the American people.  I don't understand how such a small percentage of the American people can have such a prominent voice in what is presented to us on television.
Boycotting HBO is a start.  Other shows who attack and/or mock Christians should be boycotted as well.

That's just how I see it!
