Dirty Politics - Obama Administration Manipulating Jobless Numbers To Show Less Unemployed and More "Green Jobs"

Congressman Darrell Issa says Obama Administration classifies jobs with political purpose.

The Obama administration is manipulating how it reports and provides information about U.S jobs - in some cases for "clearly political reasons" - said U.S. Representative Darrell Issa.

Rep. Darrell Issa, who is Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, made the assertion during a hearing on how the Obama administration counts so-called "green jobs" and the Labor Department's recent, unannounced change on how Reporters can access key unemployment reports and other information.

The Labor Department "has jeopardized the integrity of employment data in some cases for clearly political reasons," Issa said.

Issa said the administration is reclassifying such jobs as welder, college professor and diesel mechanic as "green jobs" to prove that Billions of taxpayer dollars have created alternative-energy jobs -  though they in fact haven't.

Under questioning by Issa, senior U.S. Labor Department officials revealed that the Obama administration counts oil lobbyists, bus drivers, welders, garbage men, bicycle shop employees and used-record store clerks as "green jobs."

The exchange occurred between Issa, Bureau of Labor Statistics Acting Commissioner Josh Galvin and Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Jane Oates at the "Addressing Concerns about the Integrity of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Jobs Reporting" hearing Wednesday in Washington

Bottom line: the Obama administration is trying to fix the reports so that it look like that huge Federal stimulus package which cost Taxpayers almost a Trillion Dollars actually produced new jobs - when in fact it didn't.

Of course, so-called "green jobs" is a major initiative for President Obama, so why not fix it to make it look like he has accomplished more than he in reality has. 

"It’s about politics. It’s always been about politics," said Representative Issa, R-Calif. "If you work at the Salvation Army, that’s a green job?"

Diana Furchtgott-Roth, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and contributing editor of RealClearMarkets.com, said the administration should be focused on simply creating jobs, not classifying them.

She cited the administration putting $3.5 million into the failed Solyndra solar-energy company as an example of the administration appearing to misleadingly or incorrectly tout green-job creation.

Besides the Obama administration trying to now classify truck drivers, school bus drivers, and those riding the bus as "green-jobs," there is another concern to all of this that screams of Obama's idea of Big Brother telling Americans how to conduct themselves.

This second concern has to do with the Labor Department recently ordering Reporters to use government-issued software and other equipment to access Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, perhaps a violation of free-speech laws.

"This proposal threatens the First Amendment," said Daniel Moss, a Bloomberg News executive editor, testifying at the hearing.

This whole idea of having to use equipement issued by the government to access information from the government would have made famous Communist leaders like Linin, Stallin, Moa, and Castro proud.

It is just another attempt of the Obama administration to impose authoritatian measures on Americans. It's seems to be his way of imposing a dictatorial government - one that is run with unlimited power by the head of government or head of state - on Americans.

Some folks might have forgotten, but in March of 2011, Obama had told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China - as one official put it, "No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square."

Then of course, it was in August of 2011, when Obama slammed American Democracy - although technically, we are a Republic - when Obama blamed our terrible economy on what he called a "big, messy, tough Democracy."

Imagine that!

Fast & Furious Amnesia Hits Attorney General Eric Holder

Amnesia is a condition in which one's memory is lost either by physical or psychological reasons. It's a condition that can be slow in coming, or in the case of Attorney General Eric Holder very sudden - almost, let's say, convenient.

When asked about the Justice Department’s Operation Fast and Furious which gave thousands of weapons to Mexican Drug Cartels, and which high-ranking Obama administration officials knew about the botched operation, Holder can't remember at of very pertinent facts.

Out of convenience or not, Holder's new found amnesia helped him evade questions by Rep. Darrell Issa about some of the smallest details - such whether he or other Justice Department officials had even started to pull together Fast and Furious documents requested in an October 2011 subpoena Issa sent the agency.

"Nothing has come from your department, not a shred of paper," Representative Issa said during a House Judiciary Committee meeting.

Representative Darrell Issa, (R-CA), is the Chairman of the chamber’s Committee on Oversight and Government Affairs which issued the subpoena to the Justice Department.

The subpoena demanded "all" documentation regarding Operation Fast and Furious and the gun-running which has been linked to the 2010 death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

"You are not a good witness," Representative Issa said in frustration, after Holder essentially repeated Issa's questions over and over again.

Issa has vowed to hold Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to respond to the subpoena. Holder has testified he has given congressional investigators the requisite information. Holder has stated that he has turned over "relevant" documentation while steadfastly refusing to turn over all documentation and not just that that he deems relevant.

On Monday, Representative Issa released information about six wiretap applications that he says prove high-ranking Justice Department officials knew about the Justice Department's gun-running operation.

Issa says the applications were signed by Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, Holder’s second in command.

The Obama administration has repeatedly said high-level Justice Department officials had no specific knowledge of the gun-running of thousands of weapons into the hands of criminals and murderers in Mexico.

Holder has testified at least seven times before Congress on Fast and Furious and has acknowledged the program’s failures.

"We now know … inappropriate tactics were used in an attempt to stem the flow of illegal guns across the Southwest border," he said Thursday in opening remarks. "Although these law enforcement operations … were focused on the laudable goal of dismantling illegal gun trafficking networks, they were flawed in both concept and execution."

The Justice Department responded to Issa’s interpretation of the wiretap applications in a letter saying the agency disagrees with his assertion but is "legally prohibited from commenting on the content of sealed court documents."

The gun-walking tactic had the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Arizona stage gun sales across the Mexico border with alleged arms dealers, with the hope that the thousands of weapons would lead to organizers of Drug Cartels.

Instead, yes the guns have been used in murders across Mexico. One of the Fast & Furious weapons was used to murder U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

In another tense exchange Thursday, Representative Lamar Smith asked Holder, whether he or anybody else told the White House about so-called "gun-walking tactic" after it appeared to contribute to the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry?

Attorney General Holder replied “I don’t know.”

The exchange occurred during a hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee, on which Smith is the chairman.

"When was anyone in the White House informed of the tactics used under Operation Fast and Furious?" asked Smith, (R-TX).

Holder replied: “I don't know.”

When Representative Smith asked Holder if he personally told the White House?  Holder replied, "There was contact between staff. .. I don't myself remember any direct contact."

Yes, it sounds like a sudden onset of amnesia. And as I stated be before, amnesia is a condition in which one's memory is lost.

The causes of amnesia have traditionally been divided into certain categories. Memory appears to be stored in several parts of the limbic system of the brain, and any condition that interferes with the function of this system can cause amnesia.

Functional causes are psychological factors, such as mental disorder, post-traumatic stress or, in psychoanalytic terms - defense mechanisms.

Since it's almost certain that the Attorney General of the United States Eric Holder has not fallen on his head lately, I can only wonder if his new found state of amnesia is being caused by psychological factors, such as a mental disorder - or say some defense mechanism like that of not wanting to go to prison.

Voters From Two Heavily Democrat California Cities Vote To Curb Pension Abuse

Is it Pension Abuse? Damn right it is, and Voters are tired of it.

Decisive victories for ballot proposals cutting retirement benefits for government workers in two of the largest cities in the U.S. emboldened advocates seeking to curb pensions in state capitols and city halls across the nation.

The voter responses in San Diego and San Jose were stinging setbacks for public employee unions, which also came up short on Republican Gov. Scott Walker's recall victory in Wisconsin.

"The message is that if elected officials and public employee unions do not responsibly deal with this issue, voters will take things into their own hands," said Thom Reilly, former chief executive of Clark County, Nevada, now a professor of social work at San Diego State University. "We could see more draconian measures from citizens."

In San Diego, two-thirds of voters favored the pension reduction plan. And the landslide was even greater in San Jose, where 70 percent were in favor.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, a chief backer, said he was surprised by the margin of victory and considered it a statement that voters won't tolerate benefits that are more generous than those they receive working at private companies.

Voters in two major California cities overwhelmingly approved cuts to retirement benefits for city workers in what supporters said was a mandate that may lead to similar ballot initiatives in other states and cities that are struggling with mounting pension obligations.

Supporters had a simple message to voters in San Diego and San Jose: Pensions for city workers are unaffordable and more generous than many private companies offer, forcing libraries to slash hours and potholes to go unfilled.

"The public is frustrated," said San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio, a Republican who staked his mayoral bid on the pension measure and advanced to a November runoff in Tuesday's election to lead the nation's eighth-largest city.

In San Diego, 66 percent voted in favor of Proposition B, while 34 percent were opposed. Nearly 97 percent of precincts were tallied by early Wednesday.

The landslide was even bigger in San Jose, the nation's 10th-largest city. With all precincts counted, 70 percent were in favor of Measure B and 30 percent were opposed.

"The voters get it, they understand what needs to be done," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, a Democrat who has called pensions his highest priority.

Shrinking tax revenues during the recession are also responsible for service cuts in San Diego and San Jose, but pensions were an easy target. San Diego's payments to the city's retirement fund soared from $43 million in 1999 to $231.2 million this year, equal to 20 percent of the city's general fund budget, which pays for day-to-day operations.

As the pension payments grew, San Diego's 1.3 million residents saw roads deteriorate and libraries and recreation centers cut hours. For a while, some fire stations had to share engines and trucks. The city has cut its workforce 14 percent to 10,100 employees since Sanders took office in 2005.

San Jose's pension payments jumped from $73 million in 2001 to $245 million this year, equal to 27 percent of its general fund budget. Voters there approved construction bonds at the beginning of the last decade, but four new libraries and a police station have never opened because the city cannot afford to operate them.

The city of 960,000 cut its workforce 27 percent to 5,400 over the last 10 years.

Tuesday's votes set the stage for potentially lengthy legal challenges by public employee unions. The measures are unusual because they address pensions for current employees, not just new hires.

Opponents argued that the measures deprive workers of benefits they were counting on when they got hired. They tried to pass along the idea that some workers decided against potentially more lucrative jobs with private companies, figuring their retirement was relatively safe.

Voters didn't accept what the opponents had to say. They simply were not accepting the arguement that workers decided against making more money with private companies to opt for those jobs. It didn't make any sense. It sounded like a line of bullspit!

The ballot measures differ on specifics.

San Diego's imposes a six-year freeze on pay levels used to determine pension benefits unless a two-thirds majority of the City Council votes to override it. It also puts new hires, except for police officers, into 401(k)-style plans.

More than 100,000 residents signed petitions to put the San Diego measure on the ballot.

Under San Jose's measure, current workers have to pay up to 16 percent of their salaries to keep their retirement plan or accept more modest benefits. New hires would get less generous benefits.

Mayor Reed joined an 8-3 City Council majority to put the measure on the ballot. He said after Tuesday's vote that he expected other cities in financial binds to pursue similar measures.

"It's novel but it's certainly not radical," he said. "Mayors across the country are very interested. We're at the leading edge but we're not alone."

Coyotes cause temporary closure of Palo Alto trails to dogs

Some trails in Palo Alto California's Pearson Arastradero Preserve have been temporarily closed to dogs, following encounters with coyotes.

The closed trails are Ohlone, Bay Laurel and Woodland Star, according to the city's Community Services Department. Parts of the Juan Bautista de Anza and Meadowlark trails have also been off limits to dogs since May 31.

The coyotes may be acting aggressively because they have pups in a nearby den.

Trail users are encouraged to pay close attention to their surroundings. They shouldn't approach, bark at, feed or attempt to tame the animals. Children should also be kept close.

They advise people who are followed by a coyote to make loud noises and throw rocks if that doesn't.

Of course, there is always the concept of having a gun on you - but that's the liberal San Francisco Bay Area and no one would think of such a thing!

Post Election Voter Message: We Want Fiscal Responsibility!

Voters sent a clear message Tuesday to their local leaders.

This was the message that voters sent: Get your financial houses in order, Don't ask for more money until you start responsibly spending what we've already given you. We're tired of losing public services as you siphon off our tax money to pay mounting costs of overly generous public-employee retirement benefits.

Nowhere in the San Francisco Bay Area that message clearer than the city of Alameda and the East Contra Costa Fire District, two very different public agencies that were both asking for more money.
Neither had yet to address their badly underfunded pension systems. Voters resoundingly rejected both measures.

Nowhere in the state was that message clearer than San Jose, where voters overwhelmingly approved a pension reform plan that will force city employees to pay more toward their pensions or accept reduced retirement benefit accruals in the future.


San Jose voters are tired of closed libraries, streets pocked with potholes, and neighborhoods unnerved by upswings in gang violence. They've watched the cost of employee pensions triple over the past decade while the number of city employees providing public services plunged.

San Jose's plight is not unique. Indeed, it has become the new normal for local governments across the state. But San Jose residents benefit from an unusual charter provision that makes it legally easier to impose changes on current employees.


Thus, while the city has become a poster child for pension reform, it doesn't provide a legal road map for the rest of the state. Some other local government will have to find the path. But the vote by the residents of the city sends a political message of growing discontent that state and local politicians must heed.

East Bay voters sent a similar message. They did not flatly reject new taxes. When a legitimate need was demonstrated and meaningful efforts had been made to control costs, voters were generally supportive.


That was true in the Dublin and Hayward school districts, as well as the cities of Hercules, San Pablo and Pittsburg. Conversely, Alameda and east Contra Costa voters definitively rejected new taxes - and with good reason.


In Alameda, leaders wanted to add a half-cent sales tax levy for 30 years to raise money for capital projects, but the proposal did nothing to address the city's staggering $285 million debt for unfunded retirement benefits. That's equal to four years of general fund revenues.

The East Contra Costa Fire District proposed the East Bay's most irresponsible tax plan on Tuesday's ballot. The 10-year levy, starting at $197 per parcel annually, would have more than doubled the district's revenues. And it would have all gone to increased services, keeping more stations open and adding costly paramedics to every fire engine. 


But it would have done nothing to address the district's ballooning retirement debt. Within a decade, the district will be spending far more on retirement benefits than on salaries. The tax proposal ignored that; indeed, it would have exacerbated the problem.

Voters demonstrated that they are willing to tax themselves when local leaders make reasonable proposals. But they're unwilling to continue digging the financial hole deeper.

It all sounds like the Tea Party is taking shape in California!

Yes, as shocking as that sounds, it is happening. The desire for fiscal discipline and reduce taxation is what started the Tea Party movement.

The Tea Party movement is a grassroots movement of Millions of like-minded Americans from all backgrounds and political parties. Tea Party members share similar core principles supporting the United States Constitution as the Founders intended, such as: Limited federal government. Individual freedoms. Personal responsibility. Free markets. Returning political power to the states and the people.

As a movement, the Tea Party is not a political party nor is looking to form a third political party any time soon. The Tea Party movement is, instead, about reforming all political parties and government so that the core principles of our Founding Fathers become, once again the foundation upon which America stands.

It seems apparent that this is exactly the message that the voters of California sent.

Could it be possible that there are more Tea Party folks in California than anyone in Sacramento wants to admit to? I think so!

Humpback, blue whales spotted near the Farallon Islands

The Farallon Islands are a group of islands and sea stacks in the Gulf of the Farallones, off the coast of California.

They lie 27 miles outside of San Francisco's Golden Gate and 20 miles south of Point Reyes. And yes, they can be seen from the California mainland on clear days.

The islands are officially part of the City and County of San Francisco. The only inhabited portion of the islands is on Southeast Farallon Islands (SEFI), where research residents of the Point Reyes Bird Observatory are located.

The islands are closed to the public. And yes, it might just be for the birds because the Farallon Islands are an important reserve protecting a huge seabird colony.

Because of the position of the islands in the highly productive California Current and Eastern Pacific upwelling region, as well as the absence of other large islands that would provide suitable nesting grounds, this all results in a seabird population of over 250,000. Believe it or not, 12 species of seabirds and shorebirds nest on the islands

Boaters are being warned that humpback and blue whales are starting to appear in the waters outside San Francisco and have been sighted in the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.

Around 40 humpback whales were first spotted from Southeast Farallon Island in April, and even a few blue whales, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials said.

Blue and humpback whales are often seen along the West Coast between late spring and fall, feeding on dense swarms of krill - small shrimp-like crustaceans - and small fish like anchovies and sardines.

The blue whale is a marine mammal. At about 98 feet in length and 200 short tons or more in weight, it is the largest known animal to have ever existed on earth. They were almost hunted to extinction.

The humpback whale is a species of baleen whale. Adults range in length from 40 to 53 feet and weigh approximately 79,000 pound.

Blue whales and Humpback whales are most frequently found near the islands in the summer and fall, when strong upwelling may support a rich pelagic food web.

Killer whales are also found around the islands. That may be due to the five species of seals that come to shore on the islands, and in some cases breed. These are the Northern Elephant Seal, Harbor Seal, Steller's Sea Lion, California Sea Lion, and the Northern Fur Seal.

Gray whales are reliably found near the Faralons during their spring migration north and the fall/winter migration south. Some Gray whales may also be found during the summer, when a few whales skip the trip north to Alaska and spend the summer months off the coast of Canada and the continental United States

The gray whale is a baleen whale that migrates between feeding and breeding grounds yearly. It reaches a length of about 52 feet, a weight of 40 short tons, and lives 50 to 70 years. The common name of the whale comes from the gray patches and white mottling on its dark skin. Gray whales were once called devil fish because of their fighting behavior when hunted.

The humpback whales appearance was right on time, sanctuary officials said, however the blue whales were spotted unusually early.

Whale sightings are common throughout the year, however, because from the winter through the spring migrating gray whales traveling between Mexican breeding grounds and Arctic feeding grounds pass through the sanctuary, as well. 

Much of a whale's body is often not visible from the surface, but observers can watch for the whale's blow, which looks like a puff of smoke, 10 feet tall for humpbacks and 30 feet tall for the enormous blue whales.

Boaters who encounter whales are legally required to keep their distance as the animals are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act.

NOAA officials recommend boaters who do encounter whales keep a distance of about 300 feet, and ask that boaters please don't cut across a whale's path, avoid sudden speed or directional changes, and absolutely don't get between a mother and her calf. It might lead to a huge problem for the boater.

All's NOT OK with Vanity License Plates

When Whitney Calk sought a personalized license plate from a Tennessee state agency to tout her vegetarian ideals, she was annoyed when she was told no. Turns out the letters ILVTOFU can be construed to mean more than enjoying bean curd.

"When I see T-O-F-U, I see tofu," says Calk, who requested the so-called vanity plate from the Tennessee Department of Revenue last September.

"I can't control the way anyone else interprets that," said Calk, 26, an animal rights activist from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The dilemma faced by Tennessee authorities last year is not unusual, as officials at motor vehicle agencies nationwide consider hundreds of thousands of personalized plate requests each year. There are an estimated 9 million personalized license plates in the United States.

The vast majority of the requests are not objectionable, but thousands provide insight not only into the boundaries of free speech but the amount of human ingenuity expended to display seven and eight character insults, sexual references and descriptions of bodily functions to other motorists.

The battle to keep highways free of offensive phrases means state officials must track everything from Internet slang to foreign languages to commands like 3MTA3, which reveals its meaning when read backwards in a rear view mirror.

Virginia may be the capital of vanity plate mischief. Personalized plates in the state cost just $10 more than regular license plates—compared with $40 in Texas and $94 in Illinois. One million of the Virginia's 7.8 million vehicles have them.

In 2009 alone, the state denied more than 700 plate requests including IHAV2P and IAMHIGH along with 100 requests beginning with the letter ‘F' and myriad proposals involving the number ‘69,' according to state documents.

Questionable formulations are so common that a 20-person committee of motor vehicle staffers meets for an hour each month to review suspicious applications.

State guidelines ban deceptive plates such as FBI or confusing configurations like O0O0O and NOTAG as well as excretory, sexual, racial or drug references.

"It's the only time you get to talk like that at DMV, that's for sure," said Department of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Melanie Stokes, who sits on the review panel. Less offensive and more playful ideas, including EWOBAMA, IPUNCHU and DMYANKI, have all been reviewed and rejected at the meetings.

Some slip through.

Pictures have been posted on the internet of the Virginia-issued 370H55V — which has to be read upside-down to get the full message.

In Maryland, a software program checks requests against 4,331 banned license plate formulations, a list that includes WILDPIG, TOILET and GAY.

State prisoners who make the plates also help out by identifying drug, gang or sexual references that slip by the computer and the civil servants, said Philip Dacey, a spokesman for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.

"A lot of these are gray areas," said Dacey. "TOILET is on the list and if people want to challenge it they can have a hearing."

That's what one motorist did after Maryland revoked his MIERDA vanity plate following a complaint. Though the Spanish term would seem to embody the state's ban on "scatological" references, an administrator is currently considering the man's appeal that the license plate should be interpreted as a non-vulgar reference to a form of fertilizer.

More recently Maryland attempted to revoke a plate reading WTF, an abbreviation for a three-word phrase beginning "what the ..." that is widely used in Internet chat. The agency reversed course after an investigation revealed that the plate predated the Internet, and was a reference to the motorist's waterfront home.

In Florida, the state's motor vehicle agency takes a permissive stance towards celebrations of clothing optional bathing. O2B NUDE, BARE ALL and BE NAKED have all been deemed acceptable by the director of the agency, who nonetheless spiked 4NICK8, CAT BUTT and COW PADY, according to records released by the state.

Other states are less permissive. Utah, which faced a lawsuit in the 1990s for issuing plates with the term "Redskins" because it offended Native Americans, has recently denied ‘IH8TBYU,' ‘MNKYBUM,' and ‘MYSHRAZ' for being derogatory, vulgar, and an alcohol reference to a popular wine.

Massachusetts' vanity application form now instructs motorists that the letters "I" "O" "Q" and "U" can only be used "as part of a word that is clearly defined and correctly spelled."

California requires applicants to explain the meaning of any request. So yes, if you're in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles and find yourself behind someone trying to explain their NOBAMA license plate renewal - have patients - DMV might not accept a short explaination.

This is a Wow! Photographer captures a "Moonbow" over Waimea on the Big Island

Yes, this is a Wow! It's something that happens rarely, but believe it or not, this incredible image of a "Moonbow" was captured this last weekend over Waimea on the Big Island.


The photo was taken by photographer Ethan Tweedie who says conditions for the Moonbow were excellent, a 98 percent full moon low in the sky, along with wind and rain.

In fact, as the winds hit about 40-miles per hour, Ethan says he had trouble standing long enough to get the shot.

A moonbow, also known as a lunar rainbow, is produced by light reflected off the surface of the moon, rather than from direct sunlight.

This is outstanding! And yes, I thought you'd like to see it.

Franklin Roosevelt's D-Day Prayer And More

Today is the annuversery of D-Day which took place on June 6th, 1944.

I truly believe that every student in every school across our great nation should read this small part of history. It is a "prayer" given to America at the start of D-Day.

I find it a shame that this small very touching, very patriotic, very stirring "prayer" has been somehow swept under the rug because it is a "prayer" - and subsequently is not condoned in schools because of Political Correctness.

Given by one of America's most beloved Presidents, the prayer points to the heart and breath of America. It goes to who we are as a nation, as a people, and tells of our ideals and courage.

"For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all Thy people. "

"My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far.

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Many people have urged that I call the Nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts.

Give us strength, too -- strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces.

The invasion of France on June 6, 1944 was a triumph of intelligence, coordination, secrecy, and planning. The bold attack was also a tremendous risk. It ultimately succeeded because of bravery in combat. Incredible bravery, self-sacrifice, and a true desire to beat the enemy.

Learn some of the basic facts about D-Day.

The Meaning of the "D"

Ever since June 6, 1944, people have been asking what the "D" in "D-Day" means. Does it stand for "decision?"

The day that 150,000 Allied soldiers landed on the shores of Normandy was certainly decisive. And with ships, landing craft and planes leaving port by the tens of thousands for a hostile shore, it is no wonder that some would call it "disembarkation" or "departed."

There is not much agreement on the issue.

But the most ordinary and likely of explanations is the one offered by the U.S. Army in their published manuals. The Army began using the codes "H-hour" and "D-day" during World War I to indicate the time or date of an operation's start. Military planners would write of events planned to occur on "H-hour" or "D-day" - long before the actual dates and times of the operations would be known, or in order to keep plans secret.

So the simple truth is that the "D" may simply refer to the "day" of the invasion.

D-Day's Incredible Numbers
  • An invading army had not crossed the unpredictable, dangerous English Channel since 1688 - and once the massive force set out, there was no turning back.
  •  The 5000-vessel armada stretched as far as the eye could see.
  •  The armada transported over 150,000 men and nearly 30,000 vehicles across the channel to the French beaches.
  •  Six parachute regiments - over 13,000 men - were flown from 9 British airfields in over 800 planes.
  •  Of the 800 planes deployed, more than 300 planes dropped 13,000 bombs over coastal Normandy immediately in advance of the invasion.
  • War planners had projected that 5,000 tons of gasoline would be needed daily for the first 20 days after the initial assault.
  •  In one planning scenario, 3,489 long tons of soap would be required for the first four months in France.
  • By nightfall on June 6th, more than 9,000 Allied soldiers were dead or wounded.
  • By that same night, more than 100,000 had made it ashore - securing French coastal villages.
  • The most difficult landing of D-Day was at Omaha beach. Navigation problems resulted in many men drowning before they reached land. Omaha Beach also had the largest amount of German troops, and the fighting was fierce.
  • Within weeks, supplies were being unloaded at UTAH and OMAHA beachheads at the rate of over 20,000 tons per day.
  • Captured Germans were sent to American Prisoner Of War Camps in the U.S. at the rate of 30,000 POWs per month from D-Day until Christmas 1944.
  • And yes, believe it or not, 33 POW detention facilities were in Texas alone.

Tuning in to D-Day

In the pre-television era, Americans got their breaking news from their radios.

London-based American journalist George Hicks made history with his radio broadcast from the deck of the U.S.S. Ancon at the start of the D-Day invasion. "...You see the ships lying in all directions, just like black shadows on the grey sky," he described to his listeners. "...Now planes are going overhead... Heavy fire now just behind us... bombs bursting on the shore and along in the convoys."

His report, including the sounds of heavy bombardment, sirens, low-flying planes, and shouting, brought Americans to the front line, with all its chaos, confusion, excitement, and death.

And of course, there is the American Noah

Louisiana entrepreneur Andrew Jackson Higgins first designed shallow-draft boats in the late 1920s to rescue Mississippi River flood victims. Higgins tried for years to sell his boats to the U.S. military, but he was rejected repeatedly.

At last, the United States Marine Corps selected the flat-bottomed landing craft for troop landings on Pacific beaches. Higgins, who had paid heavily out-of-pocket to promote his boats, finally landed the government contract - and his factories produced 20,000 of the versatile craft for the war effort - including D-Day.



The success of the invasion of Normandy was really the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany. The success of D-Day was a death knell for Nazi Germany.

The invasion, also called “Operation Overlord,” involved five separate landings by American, British, and Canadian troops and was commanded by American General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Stiff German resistance resulted in nearly 10,000 Allied casualties, but the Germans were ultimately unable to repel the Allied forces. Although German resistance continued even after all five beachheads were taken, they had too few troops in the area to be effective.

By August 1944, all of Northern France was under Allied control as Eisenhower began to prepare for the invasion of Germany.

Hitler was forced to fight a two-front war against the Russians on the East and the Allies which included Americans, British, Canadians, and French on the West.

Within a year, Adolph Hitler committed suicide and the war was over.  

On This Day Each Year

We should bow our heads and give those who fought and died a moment of silence.

We should never relinquish their deeds to just sit in history books. As with all great deeds, great endeavors, great sacrifice, we should never forget.

Whether they served in uniform or worked to keep the soldier, the sailor, the airmen, the Marine, armed, supplied, safe, and mended, may God Bless all who did their duty during that war.

Walker Kicks Butt In Wisconsin

Republicans and the Tea Party in Wisconsin can definitely celebrate, Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker won in a landslide victory on Tuesday.

Yes, some are saying he barely survived his recall election Tuesday, capping months of bitterness in the state that began when the first-term governor and Republicans in the State Legislature rolled back what they considered excesses in the collective bargaining agreements of public-employee Unions.

The cash strapped state needed help and the Unions wouldn't give an inch. The next thing you know, all of the Democrats in the State Legislature disappear - they actually left the state instead of stick around and face the state's fiscal problems head on.

It was something that most watching the news had never seen before - they just left the state like rats leaving a sinking ship. And the rats didn't come back, that is not until the teacher's Unions, the SEIU, and the liberal news media was in the capital singing chants of love and unity while calling for the new Governor's head on a platter.

The Republicans in Wisconsin argued the move reign in spending was a necessary part of their efforts to cut Wisconsin’s estimated $3.6 Billion Budget shortfall.

From motels across the state-line, the Democrat rats and union leaders accused the Wisconsin Republicans of over-reaching.

On Tuesday, an overwhelming majority of Wisconsin voters concluded that the complaints against Governor Walker were not enough reason to oust him midterm.

And as of tonight, with more than 90 percent of precincts reported, Scott Walker had nearly 54 percent of the vote, compared with 44 percent for his Democrat challenger who seem to be the party's front-man and mouthpiece through this whole experience.

"Voters really do want leaders who stand up and make the tough calls," Walker said in his victory speech, to chants of "Thank You Scott."

He also thanked people for their prayers, promised to meet soon with state lawmakers and urges residents to come together.

"Now is the time to move forward," he said. "Tomorrow we are Wisconsinites. ... But bringing the state together will be tough. There's no doubt about it."

Of the three recall elections of Governors in U.S. history, only Scott Walker has survived.

Walker’s lieutenant governor, Rebecca Kleefisch, also was projected to survive her recall election.

The recall effort started about a year and a half ago, after the Wisconsin legislature passed Governor Walker's proposal to curb public employee union power, while also requiring most public state workers to pay more for health insurance and pension benefits.

Democrats from around the nation rallied to Wisconsin, Unions poured huge amounts of money to see Walker beaten - all Union Membership Dues of course, liberal protesters gathered, and the liberal Democrat Political Party Machine went into action.

They systematically attacked Walker from every angle. With their standard lines of hate and ridicule, they protested that the Governor had gone too far! And yes, they organized massive statehouse protests is said to have gathered 900,000 signatures for the recall vote.

And no, no one knows how many Democrats registered two, three, four or more times. Or as a matter of fact, if like in 2008, dead people and Micky Mouse returned to vote for the Democrat challenging Walker.

Roughly $63 million was spent on the race. The liberal newspapers are saying that much of Walker’s support coming from outside of the state, but they fail to mention that huge amounts of cash coming in from those like George Soros and Hollywood die-hard liberals.

And how about the Unions, they spent a lot of Union Member Dues to get their way. The outcome Tuesday is a real kick in their collective backsides. With all their posturing and blame, their greed and selfishness, the Unions apparently never once considered the financial state of their state.

And yes, none of their attacks, none of their money, none of their lies and half-truth mattered. According to reports, it appears that most voters seemed to have decided long before Election Day that Scott Walker was doing good for the state and he should stay.

Yes, the impact of the vote is expected to carry into the November elections. But is it really over?

I read somewhere that there are a few people concerned that there might be the possibility that the Democrat Political Party Machine can find fake or forged ballots like what took place in Minnesota not too long ago.

And of course, since Wisconsin went for President Obama in 2008 - the question is being asked if Obama is in trouble in Wisconsin? Can the recall results give Republicans HOPE that we will see real CHANGE in November and put Mitt Romney in the White House?

Mitt Romney visited the state with Wisconsin GOP Rep. Paul Ryan earlier this year.

"I congratulate Scott Walker on his victory in Wisconsin," Romney said. "Governor Walker has demonstrated over the past year what sound fiscal policies can do to turn an economy around, and I believe that in November voters across the country will demonstrate that they want the same in Washington."
 
Since taking office, Walker has reduced the state budget and seen a drop in the state's unemployment rate.

Scott Walker, the 44-year-old son of a minister, remained unflappable throughout the campaign, as he was during the massive protests that raged at the Statehouse for weeks as lawmakers debated his proposal.

Walker wasn’t the only politician up for recall Tuesday. In addition to Kleefisch, three Republican state senators also face recall votes. A fourth state Senate seat will be determined after the Republican incumbent resigned rather than face the recall.

As for President Obama, well he did not travel to Wisconsin to campaign for Walker's Democrat challenger - not once! But then again, he did "tweet" his support Monday night.

Personally, I think Obama waved at Wisconsin a few times as he flew over the state that he didn't see important enough to stop in and see.

Alan Dershowitz says Zimmerman Prosecutor Threatening to Sue Harvard for His Criticism

On June 5th, 2012, Alan Dershowitz, wrote a column saying in effect that the Florida State Attorney Angela Corey, the prosecutor in the George Zimmerman case, recently called the Dean of Harvard Law School to complain about his criticism of some of her actions.

He states that she was transferred to the Office of Communications and proceeded to engage in a 40-minute rant, during which she threatened to sue Harvard Law School, to try to get him disciplined by the Bar Association and to file charges against him for libel and slander.

According to Dershowitz, she said that because he works for Harvard and is identified as a professor she had the right to sue Harvard.

When the communications official explained to her that he has a right to express his opinion as “a matter of academic freedom,” and that Harvard has no control over what he says, she did not seem to understand.

She persisted in her nonstop whining, claiming that she is prohibited from responding to his attacks by the rules of professional responsibility - without mentioning that she has repeatedly held her own press conferences and made public statements throughout her career.

Dershowitz claims that Angela Corey's beef with him has to do with his criticizing her for filing a misleading affidavit that willfully omitted all information about the injuries Zimmerman had sustained during the "struggle" it described. She denied that she had any obligation to include in the affidavit truthful material that was favorable to the defense.

She insisted that she is entitled to submit what, in effect, were half truths in an affidavit of probable cause, so long as she subsequently provides the defense with exculpatory evidence.

Dershowitz said she should go back to law school, where she will learn that it is never appropriate to submit an affidavit that contains a half truth, because a half truth is regarded by the law as a lie, and anyone who submits an affidavit swears to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Before she submitted the probable cause affidavit, Corey was fully aware that Zimmerman had sustained serious injuries to the front and back of his head.

The affidavit said that her investigators "reviewed" reports, statements and "photographs" that purportedly "detail[ed] the following."


It then went on to describe "the struggle," but it deliberately omitted all references to Zimmerman’s injuries which were clearly visible in the photographs she and her investigators reviewed.

Allan Dershowitz is absolutely correct. Present the fact as the are, not what you want them to me.

In his column, he goes on to say, The judge deciding whether there is probable cause to charge the defendant with second degree murder should not have been kept in the dark about physical evidence that is so critical to determining whether a homicide occurred, and if so, a homicide of what degree. By omitting this crucial evidence, Corey deliberately misled the court.

Corey seems to believe that our criminal justice system is like a poker game in which the prosecution is entitled to show its cards only after the judge has decided to charge the defendant with second degree murder.

That’s not the way the system is supposed to work and that’s not the way prosecutors are supposed to act. That a prosecutor would hide behind the claim that she did not have an obligation to tell the whole truth until after the judge ruled on probable cause displays a kind of gamesmanship in which prosecutors should not engage.

The prisons, both in Florida and throughout the United States, are filled with felons who submitted sworn statements that contained misleading half truths. Corey herself has probably prosecuted such cases.

Ironically, Corey has now succeeded in putting Zimmerman back in prison for a comparably misleading omission in his testimony. His failure to disclose money received from a PayPal account requesting donations for his legal defense made his testimony misleadingly incomplete.

In her motion to revoke his bail, Corey argued that Zimmerman “intentionally deceived the court” by making “false representations.” The same can be said about prosecutor Corey. She too misled and deceived the court by submitting an affidavit that relied on a review of photographs and other reports that showed injuries to Zimmerman, without disclosing the existence of these highly relevant injuries.

Even if Angela Corey’s actions were debatable, which I believe they were not, I certainly have the right, as a professor who has taught and practiced criminal law nearly 50 years, to express a contrary view. The idea that a prosecutor would threaten to sue someone who disagrees with her for libel and slander, to sue the university for which he works, and to try to get him disbarred, is the epitome of unprofessionalism.

Fortunately, truth is a defense to such charges.

I will continue to criticize prosecutors when their actions warrant criticism, to praise them when their actions deserve praise, and to comment on ongoing cases in the court of public opinion.


If Angela Corey doesn’t like the way freedom of expression operates in the United States, there are plenty of countries where truthful criticism of prosecutors and other government officials result in disbarment, defamation suits and even criminal charges.

We do not want to become such a country.

And yes, he is a man that I can't help but respect. No one should think that they are so powerful - not a policeman, not a District Attorney, not a President - that they can somehow threaten someone because of what he or she can or cannot say.

The reason that I respect him is because Alan Dershowitz isn't letting some government bureaucrat threaten him. And that, my friends, is as American as you can get!

In Hawaii - Names on World War II Memorial was Painted Over

Right now, the State of Hawaii is getting an earful from World War II veterans.

They are calling on the State of Hawaii to restore a memorial honoring service members killed in action after the memorial was given a fresh coat of paint - and the names of the fallen have become covered over.

The names of hundreds of Hawaii’s World War II casualties are etched into a memorial near Punchbowl and King Streets - but now some are saying that those names are barely visible.

Many people don't even realize that behind a busy bus stop on the corner of King and Punchbowl Streets stands a World War II Memorial which clearly defines the the names of the 806 sons of Hawaii who died in the war.

But now those names are hardly recognizable.

"I think it's disrespectful to the people that they are supposed to be honoring and they should re-letter it at least,” said Roland Leverenz, resident.

The Department of Accounting and General Services says the Memorial was given a fresh coat of paint in the fall of last year, and prior to that work the names were not highlighted, adding that the names may have been more visible due to soot in the engraving.

It doesn't matter when it was done. It should be fixed right now.

World War II veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion say the new paint has covered up the names to the point where they can't read them anymore.

"To honor the veterans of World War II and then to erase it is disgraceful,” said Judge Takashi Kitaoka, WWII veteran.

A photograph of the memorial hangs on the wall of their clubhouse.

"I think that is a terrible thing to do the veterans earned the recognition of having their name on a memorial and this is a terrible thing,” said Edward Ikuma, WWII veteran.

The memorial, built in 1944, was used during the war for ceremonies.

It reads "in honor of all Americans of Hawaii who died in this world war, that the beauty and freedom of our land might be preserved for all humanity."

Veterans are urging the state to make the names more visible.

"It should definitely be restored so the veterans can be recognized,” said Ikuma. "Fix it, simple as that, just fix it."

According to the report, the Department of Accounting and General Services did not say if or when this issue would be addressed - but really, what is the hold up. They are now award of the problem. I suggest they fix it.

To put this in proper prospective, almost 40 years ago when I was in High School, someone tried to vandalize the statue of King Kamehameha the Great across the street from Iolani Palace by trying to place a toilet bowl between the legs of the statue.

That morning, the toilet was promptly removed. The problem was addressed and the problem was taken cared. It was taken handled swiftly simply because it was an assault on our sense of right and wrong.

I see all Veterans memorials as being no less precious. They should get on it right now.

Congressman Issa says "Wiretaps Show Holder Knew Much More About "Fast and Furious'"

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa pressed Attorney General Eric Holder to come clean on Operation Fast and Furious - saying new information from wiretaps indicated that top White House officials knew more about the ill-fated gunrunning scheme than they have told Congress.

"The wiretap applications show that immense detail about questionable investigative tactics was available to the senior officials who reviewed and authorized them," Issa, R-Calif., said in letter data on Tuesday, according to Fox News. "The close involvement of these officials - much greater than previously known - is shocking."

Representative Darrell Issa, the Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, added, "Throughout the course of the congressional investigation . . ., the [Justice] Department has consistently denied that any senior officials were provided information about the tactics used in Operation Fast and Furious.

"The wiretap applications obtained by the committee show such statements made by senior department officials regarding the wiretaps to be false and misleading," he said.

The committee chairman wants Holder to tell Congress the facts as to what exactly did the administration know - and of course, when?

Attorney General of the Untied States in supposedly America's top cop. Eric Holder is the Attorney General.

The man in that position is supposed to be trusted, honest, impartial, and reliable. And  Holder, who has not responded to Issa’s letter, is none of that and instead has refused to produce documents that committee officials have subpoenaed and has said he has given congressional investigators all of the "relevant" information. Relevant to his way of thinking, but not their's.

Operation Fast and Furious was started and ran by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It provided thousands of guns to supposed arms dealers at the U.S.-Mexico border in hopes of finding those who organized Drug Cartels.

But friends, the weapons were used in Mexican streets to murder and terrorize - and one was purportedly used in a 2010 gun battle that killed U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

Yes, the Federal Government provided the bad guys with thousands of guns to do only God knows what with - and no one has had to answer for it  - yet! 
The wiretaps sought to allow investigators in Arizona to listen to the phone calls of suspects in hopes of revealing evidence of involvement by high-level Mexican cartel associates. The six applications for wiretaps detail specific actions taken by agents involved in the operation, the committee said on Tuesday in a statement.

The wiretaps have now been sealed by a Federal judge.

The information shows that our officials made "conscious decisions" not to interdict weapons that agents knew were illegally purchased by smugglers taking weapons to Mexico, the statement said.

In October, Representative Issa subpoenaed the remaining documents on the Operation - and last month asked House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to support his plans to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to meet the subpoena deadline.

The committee also said the information in the wiretaps had been requested in the subpoena. The content of the wiretaps cannot be made public because they remain sealed.

At the minimum, Eric Holder should be arrested and placed into custody for obstructing justice.

And no, I'm not a Racist. I'd have him arrested if he were any color. Bsides, I'm just an American who hates corruption in our government at the highest level. It should not be condoned or tolerated.

Biden Spends $1 Million Annually for Weekend Trips

I love hearing President Obama call someone else rich when he's loaded. I laugh whenever I hear him talk about people born with a Silver Spoon in their mouth, when is fact he was.

Yes, Obama and most of his administration are pretty wealthy. But lately, I've heard all sorts of talk about how Joe Biden is not a rich man - though he is also rich.

Last June, President Obama appointed Vice President Joe Biden to root out wasteful government spending. In reality, that's sort of like assigning a coyote to root out problems in the chicken coop.

My friends, Joe Biden is wasteful government spending personified.

Personified! Yes, personified. I was looking for the proper word to describe what he's doing. And in my opinion, Joe Biden is government waste personified. It means that he represents a quality or concept by a figure in human form. It means we can attribute a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human like government waste.

See, every Friday, whether Joe Biden is really as wealthy as Obama or even Romney doesn't matter - he lives the lifestyle of a very rich man.

Biden takes a helicopter designated as "Marine Two" from the vice president’s residence to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Then from there, Joe Biden, who claims to be just one of the guys, hops on "Air Force Two" to fly back to his home in Delaware. At the end of the weekend, he returns on "Air Force Two."

He does this every weekend!

During warm weather, Joe Biden regularly returns to Andrews on the airplane on Saturdays to play golf at the Air Force base with President Obama. Using it as a shuttle, or a taxi, after the golf game, he hops back aboard his private plane - oops, I mean Air Force Two - and flies back to Delaware.

Then of course he returns to Washington on the plane on Sunday evening.

Friends, even if he weren't rich, Joe Biden doesn't need to be rich  — this is all paid for at Taxpayer Expense.

The cost of flying his Air Force Two is $22,000 an hour, so each half-hour trip to or from Delaware costs about $10,000.

Each the American Taxpayer, every Saturday golf game for Joe Biden costs taxpayers $20,000. At that rate, the annual cost to taxpayers of Biden’s weekend trips is well over $1 Million.

But hold on, you see, in addition this bullspit, the Secret Service rents more than 20 condominiums in the Wilmington, Delaware, area for agents who must accompany Joe Biden when he returns to his home state.

Of course, good 'ol boy Joe Biden, well his press office had no comment.

"Biden leaves every Friday from Joint Base Andrews, so he gets lifts from the observatory via Marine Two to Andrews Air Force Base, takes off via Air Force Two, lands in Delaware, and stays the weekend and then comes back on Sunday nights," says a Secret Service agent familiar with the trips.

"Every three or four weeks when it’s warm, he gets up there on Saturday and then will fly back on Air Force Two," the agent says. "While Air Force Two is sitting on the tarmac at Andrews, he goes and plays golf with the president at Andrews Air Force Base, gets back on the plane, and flies back to Delaware. Let me tell you something, that is egregious."

Besides that, “The Secret Service rents condos in Wilmington because his schedule is so fluid and never concrete enough to properly prepare for his visits to Delaware," the agent says. “So they keep a fully staffed Secret Service advance team in Delaware in condominiums that we lease so that when he does these things back and forth to D.C., they’re up there ready for him to arrive."

The Boeing C-32 that usually flies as Air Force Two is a specially configured Boeing 757-200 commercial jet which typically requires a crew of 18.

As a U.S. senator, Biden was proud of the fact that he commuted daily by train from his home in Delaware to Washington during the week.

Amtrak named the newly renovated Wilmington station the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Railroad Station.

But after taking office as vice president, a Secret Service agent says Biden began the pattern of commuting on Air Force Two on weekends, costing taxpayers close to $4 Million - so far.

As recently as May 12th, Joe Biden flew back to Andrews to play golf with Obama and with Biden’s second son Hunter and White House trip director Marvin Nicholson. They played 18 holes of golf for four and a half hours.

Not bad for a guy that's supposedly "just an ordinary Joe" - right!

Biden also plays golf at a country club he belongs to in the Wilmington area. The Secret Service agent says that since Air Force Two parks at Andrews, Obama is obviously aware that Biden is running up a huge government tab for each game of golf he plays with him.

Asked if President Obama thinks these costs are appropriate, why he has not questioned Biden flying to play golf with him at a cost of $20,000 per game, and in view of these costs of $1 Million a year for weekend trips, whether the vice president should no longer be in charge of cutting government waste, the president’s press office had no immediate comment.

In addition to his salary as vice president of $230,700, Biden has free use of the vice president’s residence at the Naval Observatory. The vice president’s residence is a handsome 9,150-square-foot, three-story mansion overlooking Massachusetts Avenue NW in Washington.

Complete with pool, pool house, and indoor gym, the white brick house was built in 1893 as the home of the superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory. Congress turned it into the official residence of the vice president in 1974 and gave it the address One Observatory Circle.

During the day, at least five Navy stewards attend to every personal need of the second family, including cleaning, cooking, shopping for food, and doing the laundry.

Biden has portrayed himself as a "regular Joe," supposedly some sort of product of a "working class family" who "takes on Millionaires" and "evil wealthy" Republicans who are said to be out of touch with middle-class Americans.

What a lot of crap!

Ever notice how they make making money sound like a sign? Too bad they don't tell the American people that the number of millionaires in America is going down, which of course means that those some folks who have the money to start and run businesses and subsequently create more jobs are becoming fewer under Obama.

Last June 13th, Obama placed Biden in charge of a Campaign to Cut Waste, which will "hunt down and eliminate misspent tax dollars in every agency and department across the federal government," according to the White House website.

In an email, Joe Biden told his supporters that he was the "New Sheriff in town."

He said that "particularly at a time when we’re facing tough decisions about reducing our deficit, it’s a no-brainer to stop spending taxpayer dollars on things that benefit nobody."

The report about this ended by saying that Joe Biden has been a long-time proponent of train travel.
But honestly, the way this administration spends Taxpayer Dollars - I can't see Joe Biden taking the train if it's not a personal private train. Besides, why should he? He's got a private helicopter, private jet, private staff, private security, meals, accommodations, and he ain't putting out a dime to pay for it

We're paying for it!

Lord, please protect us from full of shit politicians, hypocrite liberals, and scamming con artist in the Obama administration! Though they are something to behold, they should be sent packing!

M1 Garand: Our New Service Rifle (Original 1938 Review)

For more than thirty years the Ordnance Department endeavored to obtain a satisfactory semi-automatic or self-loading rifle to replace the bolt action Springfield.

These efforts were not confined to the development within the Department. Invitations were extended periodically to gun designers in this country and abroad to submit weapons for test, and tests were made of those received which showed any promise of meeting the specifications prescribed.

During this period of thirty odd years many rifles were received and tested. Mechanisms embodying every known principle of operation were represented in the many types submitted.

After many tests of various calibers, it was decided that the caliber .276 cartridge developed sufficient power for a shoulder weapon and that the use of this smaller cartridge would facilitate the design of a reliable and durable self-loading rifle within the prescribed weight limit and would also reduce the load of the individual soldier due to the lighter weight of the cartridge.

Of the several rifles in this caliber submitted for test, two were outstanding: the Pedersen; and the Garand, designed and developed by Mr. John C. Garand. Both Mr. Pedersen and Mr. Garand carried on their development work at the Springfield Armory.

A number of each of these types were manufactured and submitted to the services for test. Both rifles performed very well. However, to adopt a weapon of this caliber involved further complication of the supply problem by the introduction of another type of ammunition.

In the meantime, Mr. Garand, who has been in the employ of the Ordnance Department at the Springfield Armory for the past eighteen years as a designer of automatic weapons, completed a test model of a semi-automatic rifle designed to function with either the Caliber .30, M1, Model 1906, or the caliber .30, M1, service cartridge.

This rifle appeared so promising in its preliminary tests that decision to adopt the caliber .276 was held in abeyance. The results of continued tests of the caliber .30 weapon were so excellent that the caliber .276 project was abandoned altogether and the caliber .30 weapon as developed by Mr. Garand was adopted as the standard shoulder weapon of our Army. This action was taken in January, 1936.

The new rifle, with which our troops are to be equipped, is officially known as the “U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1,” and popularly as the “Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle.”

It is of the gas-operated type and employs an en-bloc type of clip holding eight rounds. It varies somewhat from the conventional type of gas-operated weapon in that there is no hole drilled in the barrel is provided with a sleeve and just as the base clears the muzzle, a small amount of gas is diverted through a port at the muzzle into a cylinder where it impinges upon the piston of the operating rod, driving it to the rear. The location of the port at the muzzle rather than at some point nearer the breech permits the use of gas at a lower pressure, thereby decreasing the stresses on the operating parts of the rifle.

The rifle has seventy-two component parts, which include springs, pins and screws; weighs about nine pounds; is forty-three inches overall in length; has a pistol-grip type stock; and provision is made for attaching a bayonet.

The rear sight is mounted on the receiver as close to the eye as possible and is of the aperture being seven-hundredths of an inch. The front sight is of the blade type protected by guards similar to those on the U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1917.

The first production models were completed and delivered to troops in August, 1937. Since that time a small but constant monthly production, limited by the equipment available, has been maintained.

The total number of rifles for which funds have provided to June 30, 1938, is approximately 7500, and it is expected to complete the delivery of these during the current calendar year.

For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1938, funds have been provided for the manufacturer of and additional quantity of rifles, and funds have also been provided to greatly increase the equipment, such as new and more modern machines, tools, jigs, fixtures and [gages], required in the production of this weapon. These additional facilities will permit a much greater daily production rate than is now available.

In the meantime, the rifles which have been delivered to troops continue to give excellent service. Every organization so far equips has submitted enthusiastic reports of their performance under all conditions which have been encountered.

Demands for this rifle to replace the Springfield are increasing tremendously as its superiority is realized from actual experience with it. This undoubtedly will result in greatly increased yearly appropriations for the production of larger quantities. Even so, it will take several years to complete the rearming of the Regular Army and the National Guard, and as priority will undoubtedly be given to equipping these organizations, it will probably be many years before any of these rifles will become available for other purposes.

Judge Revokes George Zimmerman's Bond In Self-Defense Trial

Yes, it is all about about a citizens right to self-defense. If you don't think so, then think about what's really on trial here: a man defending himself against a bigger stronger attacker who was in the midst of trying to bash his head in.

And now, a judge on Friday revoked George Zimmerman's bond and has ordered him returned to jail within 48 hours.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said that George Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, misled the court about how much money they had available when his bond was set for $150,000 in April.

Prosecutors claim Zimmerman had $135,000 available that had been raised by a website he set up.

Zimmerman's wife testified at the bond hearing that they had limited funds available since she was a nursing student and Zimmerman wasn't working.

"He can't sit back and obtain the benefit of a lower bond based upon those material falsehoods," Lester said.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara said the fact that Zimmerman and his wife never used the money for anything indicated "there was no deceit."

"I do think that the Zimmerman family was acting with the constraints they thought they had," O'Mara said after the ruling. "I don't think that they had free access to that money and I think that was evident by the way that they used it and didn't use it."

Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda described the Zimmermans' testimony as "misleading."

"This court was led to believe they didn't have a single penny," said De la Rionda. "It was misleading and I don't know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie."

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, said his clients have always said Zimmerman should remain in jail until trial, which O'Mara said he believed wouldn't be until next year.

Crump was asked if he thought that if Zimmerman would be willing to lie about his finances that he would be willing to lie about what happen the night Martin was killed.

"We fully expect that the special prosecutor will make George Zimmerman's credibility be front and center in this entire case," Crump said. "And whatever dishonesty that comes forth by George Zimmerman that they can prove, you can best believe it will be the issue of this case and rightfully so."

Prosecutors also said Zimmerman had failed to surrender a second passport, but the judge dismissed that concern as the equivalent of someone who has lost a driver's license, applies for a new one and then finds the old driver's license.

O'Mara said he hopes the revocation of bond is "temporary." "I hope that they will give us a day in court to explain George's behavior and look at all the circumstances, even the discovery that's come out to date in determining what he's going to do about letting him back out on bond," he said.

Zimmerman is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder and claims self-defense. Zimmerman shot Martin in February after Martin attacked Zimmerman.

On May 16th, court records were released that show George Zimmerman had multiple injuries after being attacked by Trayvon Martin.

That's right, court  records show Zimmerman had injuries consistent with his claims as to what took place after being assaulted by the bigger taller Martin.

Court records show George Zimmerman had a pair of black eyes, a nose fracture, and two cuts to the back of his head after being attacked by Trayvon Martin.

The medical records were part of evidence released that Prosecutors have in the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman. Zimmerman entered a plea of not guilty and claims self-defense in the February 26th self-defense shooting in Sanford, Florida.

ABC News first reported Zimmerman's injuries from the medical records. Some of the injuries were previously reported by The Associated Press based on video showing Zimmerman with police officers following the shooting.

Zimmerman, 28, faces a potential life sentence if convicted. His story has not wavered as he has said that he only fired his handgun because he feared for his life after Trayvon Martin attacked him, had him on his back and was slamming his head into the pavement.

Zimmerman's injuries goes along with his story that he acted in self-defense, because he was getting beaten up by the bigger stronger Trayvon Martin.

If Zimmerman prevails on his self-defense claim, a judge could dismiss the case before trial.

Local station WFTV reported that an autopsy of Trayvon Martin showed that the only injury Martin had - aside from a fatal gunshot wound - was broken skin on his knuckles from assaulting Zimmerman.

Though the injury noted in the autopsy report could support George Zimmerman's claim that Trayvon Martin punched him in the nose before slamming his head on the sidewalk, the liberal media and so-called civil rights activists  in the black community has denied that they have any bearing on the case.

It's as if some people, maybe out of racist or other prejudicial reasons, simply refuse to accept the fact that George Zimmerman is telling the truth.

Until today, Zimmerman was free on $150,000 bail and living in an undisclosed location. He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges that were only filed after the governor appointed a special prosecutor to investigate the slaying in the central Florida city of Sanford.

The case has become a national racial flash-point because the Martin family and supporters contend Zimmerman had singled out Martin because he was black.

The liberal media who has a cow anytime a citizen defends himself, believes that the law took too much time in arresting George Zimmerman. During the 44 days between the actual incident and Zimmerman's arrest, liberal news media sources whipped up protests nationwide.

An example of this is NBC News which edited and falsified the 911 calls made by George Zimmerman the night he was attacked - all in an effort to incite hate by depicting Zimmerman as a racist.

NBC's doctored version was aired on the "Today" show in an attempt to deceive the public. 

After they were outed for lying to their viewers for editing the 911 tape in a way that made it appear Zimmerman was racially profiling Martin - when in fact he was not - NBC News came under fire but it was quickly forgotten by other networks.

At Friday's court hearing, De la Rionda and O'Mara also asked a judge to stop the public release of witness names and statements made by Zimmerman to police officers. Those documents normally are part of the public record under Florida law.

"What's occurring, unfortunately, are cases are being tried in the public sector as opposed to in the courtroom," De La Rionda said. "We are in a new age with Twitter, Facebook, and all these things I've never heard of before in my career. Everybody gets to find out intimate details about witnesses that never occurred before. Witnesses are going to be reluctant to get involved."

A group of more than a dozen media outlets asked the judge to ignore the request, saying such records are presumed to be publicly available under Florida law.

Rachel Fugate, an attorney for the Orlando Sentinel, cited the Casey Anthony trial as an example of a highly publicized case in which a jury was able to be seated despite intense media coverage. The Florida mother was acquitted last year of killing her 2-year-old daughter.

"Discovery in Florida has traditionally been open ... and Florida hasn't encountered problems seating juries and giving defendants fair trials," Fugate said.

O'Mara said Friday on a website that he doesn't expect the case to be ready for trial until next year.

O'Mara said he expects to call on 50 witnesses who need to be deposed before he decides whether to file a "stand your ground" motion which would ask for a hearing before a judge without a jury.

At the hearing, Zimmerman will argue self-defense under the Florida law which gives citizens wide latitude to use deadly force rather than retreat in a fight if they believe they are in danger of being killed or seriously injured.

The case has placed a spotlight on Florida's "Stand your Ground" law, which states that an individual can use force in self-defense when there is a legitimate belief of a threat, without having to retreat first.

Zimmerman claimed Martin had confronted him, broke his nose with a punch and was bashing his head into the pavement when he fired the deadly shot in self-defense.

I can't help but wonder if George Zimmerman is a scapegoat for the political left. I can't help but wonder if this is an attempt by the left to show that people have no inherent right to defend themselves.

Their bullshit argument is that if people can use deadly force as a "right," then people will use this "right" as a way to attack minorities. That sort of twisted logic is why they want "Stand Your Ground" repealed.

Chicago or Afghanistan - Which Is Safer?

Believe it or not, Chicago is deadlier than Afghanistan!

That's right! According to data from the Department of Defense and the FBI, the number of murdered in Chicago is two and a half times the amount of U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan since 2001.

According to data provided by the FBI and Department of Defense, 5,056 people have been murdered in Chicago since 2001 -  compared that with 1,976 total U.S. deaths in Afghanistan since 2001.

But wait, there's more for the Second City to be proud of - Chicago's murder rate even outpaces total NATO coalition forces fatalities in Afghanistan since 2001 by a difference of more than 2,500 killed.

This last weekend was Memorial Day weekend, and yes, 10 more die in Memorial Day weekend Chicago shootings. It just doesn't stop!

On May 29th, Reuters reported that 10 people were killed and dozens were wounded in shootings in Chicago during the long Memorial Day weekend.

The 96-hour spasm of gun violence added to the toll of what already has been a deadly year on the streets of the third-largest U.S. city. Through May 13 this year there have been 185 homicides in the city, according to the latest police figures, up from 116 during the comparable period last year.

Chicago's murder rate has outpaced New York City, which has more than twice the population.

This weekend's victims included a 7-year-old girl wounded while playing in front of her house on the city's south side, and a 13-year-old boy murdered in a pizzeria on the city's north side.

Murders in Chicago are up more than 54 percent, according to police data.

After reading what Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy had to say about why Second City is so Kill Crazy, it just sounds like more lip service as no one really knows what to do about the drugs, the gangs, and the crooked cops in that city.

One bit of irony in all of this is that Chicago is probably the city with the strictest Gun Control laws and policies in the entire nation.

Yes, in Chicago, a citizen does not have the right to carry a gun to protect his or her self. They are just targets!

Talking About Crooked Cops - California Sheriff's Deputies Illegally Selling Guns

In Sacramento, California, Federal Prosecutors announced charges against two Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies. They are being accused of illegally selling dozens of weapons, some of which authorities say fell into the hands of criminals.

Deputies Ryan McGowan, 31, and Thomas Lu, 42, both of Elk Grove, face charges of trafficking in handguns that cannot be legally bought by citizens in California -  including some exotic weapons such as high-powered rifles mounted on pistol frames.

Also charged were firearms dealer Robert Snellings, 61, of Rancho Marietta and Ulysses Simpson Grant Early IV, 36, of Sacramento, who is accused of buying guns.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagoner said the deputies were charged with serving as straw buyers by purchasing the restricted handguns. They then sold the handguns at a profit of thousands of dollars to unqualified buyers through licensed dealers.

"When law enforcement officers misuse their badges to funnel dangerous weapons to the highest bidder, they compromise the safety of the public," Wagoner said at a news conference. "By putting personal profit ahead of public safety, they undermine the very essence of their duty."

Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully said three of the weapons sold by McGowan wound up in the hands of criminals. One went to a convicted drug dealer, who also is being charged in the county. The other two weapons were later illegally converted to assault weapons and recovered by Daly City Police after a six-hour standoff.

California law bars citizens from buying handguns that have not been deemed safe by the State of California Department of Justice, but the law exempts Police Officers.

The two sheriff's deputies are accused of using their peace officer exemption to buy dozens of weapons over more than a year then selling them to others for a profit.

Investigators said there was no evidence the deputies intended the weapons for criminals. Peace officers who own off-roster firearms may sell them in a private sale, as long as it is brokered by a federal firearms licensee.

But, they cannot use these private sales to conduct a business with a principal objective of making a profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms.

McGowan and Lu were charged with engaging in a firearms business without a license, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Snellings was charged with five counts of conspiracy to make false statements in Federal Firearm records. Early, the buyer, and McGowan were each charged with one felony count of conspiracy to make a false statement in federal firearm records.

The maximum penalty for each conspiracy charge is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. McGowan faces two separate state counts of selling large capacity magazines to an undercover agent last year; two counts of possessing illegal assault weapons; and one charge of illegal steroids. Those charges could bring him a maximum total sentence of five years and eight months in state prison.

Federal records show since 2008, McGowan purchased 41 handguns and sold 25 on his own. Lu bought 27 since 2008 and resold 23.

Snellings' business, Snellings' Firearms, is accused of selling or transferring 33 guns to McGowan and 29 to Lu between 2008 and late 2011.

Two other police officers, one in Sacramento and the other in nearby Roseville, were implicated in the investigation but were not charged because of their limited involvement.

Both have since lost their jobs.

The two deputies worked at the department's Rio Cosumnes Correction Center in Elk Grove. Lu resigned and McGowan is on paid administrative leave, said Deputy Jason Ramos, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, assisted by deputies and police within the local departments, spent months investigating the alleged weapons dealing. The investigation became known when agents served search warrants in November.

The weapons include easily concealable semiautomatic pistols that shoot high-velocity .223 caliber bullets, the same long-range ammunition used by the U.S. military for its M16 and M4 rifles. Also sold were handguns that fire .50 caliber pistol bullets, a less powerful version of the same large-caliber round used in machine guns and sniper rifles. Investigators say semiautomatic handguns built to look like Israeli-made Uzi submachine guns also were bought and sold.

The federal investigation led Assemblyman Roger Dickinson, D-Sacramento, to propose legislation to close what he calls a loophole in the state's "unsafe handguns" law, passed in 2001.

Peace officers and members of the military are required to use a registered firearms dealer if they want to sell their privately owned weapons. But current law does not require the dealer to make sure the ultimate buyer is also eligible to own handguns that aren't on the Department of Justice's list of approved weapons.

Dickinson said his AB2460 would require dealers to check whether weapons are considered "unsafe handguns," and sell them only to other law enforcement officials or members of the military who are exempted under the law. The bill passed the Assembly in May and is awaiting action in the Senate.

It just goes to greed and the desire of some folks to try to scam the system to their own benefit. It's a shame really, but stupid is as stupid does!

Economy Taking A Nose Dive And Obama Blames Congress

On June 1st, with the horrible employment news coming out of Washington, Barack Obama did what he usually does - pass the buck and put the blame on others.

Since Bush wasn't available, he put the blame for a terrible May jobs report on Congress - saying its their inaction that has stymied economic recovery.

Obama said Congress has not passed enough provisions of his jobs plan saying, "There's no excuse for it!"

He went on to say that Congress must work immediately to offer more tax breaks for small-business owners and for homeowners who refinance. And, not to anyone's surprise, he also wants to extend tax credits for clean energy manufacturers.

The message the president issued on Friday follows his standard rhetoric surrounding a "to-do list" he released for Congress last month, which urged lawmakers to take steps to address the employment situation since he has no idea how to do it.

Obama is on the road campaigning away and raising all sorts of money just about everywhere he goes.

The economy added just 69,000 jobs in May, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly report.
The national unemployment rate increased a tenth of a percentage point, from 8.1 to 8.2 percent.

Mitt Romney called the report "devastating news for American workers and American families." Friday's numbers are even more proof that the policies of the Obama administration are hurting - not helping -America

President Obama is scheduled to attend six campaign events across Minnesota and the Chicago area raising Millions of dollars in the process.

I can't help but wonder if he ever feels a little dirty knowing that he's raising Millions of dollars for himself while there are those in our country that can benefit from just a small part of his enormous campaign wealth?

California Congressman Pete Stark Doesn't Live In California

Fortney Hillman "Pete" Stark, Jr. is the U.S. Representative for California's 13th Congressional District.

He is 80 years old, and is the purest example of a Career Politician as he has served in Congress since 1973.

That's right, he is 19-term East Bay Democratic Rep. Pete Stark - and yes, he is California's Dick Lugar.  Richard Green "Dick" Lugar was the senior United States Senator from Indiana who was voted out of office after his constituents realized that he didn't even live in that state.

You see, like former Republican Dick Luger who had not lived in his state for many years, Pete Stark has done the same thing for years here.

How can he do it? Why isn't it against the law? Can't he be charged with something? How has he gotten away with this? All great questions, most are answered by looking at the who he is - and that is a very powerful ranking Democrat and millionaire.

Since he has had the political power to get away with things for so long, I believe that he simply feels that he can do it - and get away with it.

Stark says he lives in his East Bay district - but he actually only uses the address of his in laws, no one in the working class neighborhood of San Lorenzo has ever seen the millionaire representative to the 13th Congressional District.

He actually resides on a Chesapeake Bay Estate!

Boy Finds Old Photo Of Dead Uncle Inside A Camera He Found At A Yard Sale

In Wichita, Kansas, Addison Logan, age 13, saw an old Polaroid camera at a garage sale and thought it looked like a fun relic - little did he know it carried a photograph of a dead uncle he never met.

Deciding the camera was "pretty cool" and worth the $1 asking price, he headed home with his grandmother, Lois Logan, and searched the Internet to find out how it worked, The Wichita Eagle reported.

When he opened the camera, there was a photograph inside. He showed his grandmother, who was shocked to see her son, Scott, who died 23 years earlier in a car accident.

The photo showed Scott with a high school girlfriend about 10 years before he died. For Lois, it was proof he was still looking down on the family.

Addison's father, Blake, said of the picture, "I'm just shocked. The more time that passes, the more in disbelief I am ... It's almost like he's reaching out to us, saying he's still with us."

The Logan family don't know the family that sold the camera, and the house that held the garage sale didn't exist in the 1970s when the picture was taken, ruling out the chance the camera belonged to the girlfriend pictured with Scott and had been left there.

The family is happy to accept the random nature of the find, with another of Scott's brothers, Jeff, saying, "When you get something like that, that's almost like a sign telling us, 'Hey, everything's all right, I'm still here.'"

Like most of us, I've seen my share of pretty interesting wedding pictures. This is one that I wanted to pass on because I found the women in this picture - well, well armed!
